McDonald's All American diary: Chase Jeter

In the days leading up to the McDonald’s All American Games in Chicago, USA TODAY High School Sports will be catching up with various players to talk about their experiences. In this entry, we talk to Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) forward Chase Jeter, a Duke signee.

One of the things I was really looking forward to was visiting the Ronald McDonald House and getting to meet all those families and kids and learning a little bit about their lives. It’s pretty humbling and a means of motivation for me to be here and do well to put on a show for people in those situations.

I’m rooming with Luke Kennard from Ohio. He’s my future teammate and Duke and we’ve developed a close bond. He’s going to be my roommate next year and we were able to arrange it for this week even though we’re on opposite teams for the game. We’ve been in this situation before. My high school team ended up beating his high school team at the Beach Ball Classic in South Carolina in December. That was the first time we had played against each other since knew we were going to the same school. I’m looking to playing on the same team when we get to Duke.

We got to watch a little bit of the Duke game in the Elite Eight when we were at McDonald’s tonight. We had a to leave before the ending, but I have the March Madness app on my phone. Seeing those guys, how hard they play and the clutch finish has a very special meaning. Another Final Four is motivation for me to do big things here at the McDonald’s game.

I’ll probably watch the Final Four with family at home. That’s always a fun game to watch. I’m hoping Duke makes it to the final and we’ll see how the Kentucky game ends up. I’m looking forward to that.

This is definitely going to be a fast-paced week. We practiced today and we’re going at each other on the same team, but we’re just trying to get some camaraderie and chemistry leading up to the game on Wednesday. We’re trying to spend time together to become cohesive on and off the court.
