Fire destroyed the Boston-area home of Syracuse University basketball player Michael Carter-Williams, while Carter-Williams was leading the Orange to an NCAA Tournament victory over California on Saturday night in San Jose, Calif.

According to the Hamilton-Wenham Patch, firefighters were called to Carter-Williams' family's home in Hamilton, Mass., on Saturday night. Late Saturday night, firefighters ordered out of the home as the fire was still not under control.

The newspaper reported that fire personnel from all over Boston's North Shore, incluiding Beverly, Danvers, Essex, Ipswich, Rowley and Wenham, were called to the scene of the three-alarm fire.

Carter-Williams, a sophomore and Syracuse's starting point guard, was not made aware of the fire until after Syracuse's 66-60 win over California.

After the game, Joe Fields, Syracuse's assistant director of academic support services, took Carter-Williams over to his mother, Mandy Carter-Zegarowski, who was at the game in San Jose. The news clearly disturbed Carter-Williams, but when asked about what his mother had told him Carter-Williams said it was a private, family issue.

A Boston television station reported that the rest of Carter-Williams' family was at home when the fire broke out.

Carter Williams sent out a tweet Sunday morning thanking everyone for their prayers.

"Thank u everyone, everyone's fine which is all that matters ... I appreciate everyone's prayer and concerns," Zegarowski tweeted at 12:42 a.m.
