Motum joins Adelaide 36ers

ADELAIDE (NBL) - Brock Motum has been snapped up by the Adelaide 36ers after narrowly missing out on a spot on the Utah Jazz's opening day NBA roster.

The 24-year-old, less than two months removed from his first FIBA Basketball World Cup with the Boomers, will now ply his trade back in his homeland and play for coach Joey Wright.

"I'm really looking forward to playing for the 36ers and in the NBL," he said.

"I have a lot of respect for Joey and I'm good mates with Teysy (guard Brendan Teys), so I can't wait to suit up on Sunday."

That game will be against the Sydney Kings at the Qantas Credit Union Arena.

"Brock is a quality player and quality person," Wright said. "He will certainly make us a tougher team.

"To be 3-2 and sitting in second place and then add Brock to the line-up, it's a big bonus."

Adelaide have won the last two games, crushing the Wollongong Hawks 94-73 and getting the better of the New Zealand Breakers, 93-86.

Motum is one of Australia's rising stars.

After a solid American collegiate career at Washington State - where he was a teammate of USA international and Golden State Warriors star guard Klay Thompson - Motum played in Italy and following the World Cup, he came within a whisker of claiming a space with the Jazz.

"Brock is a phenomenal offensive scorer," Boomers coach Andrej Lemanis said.

"He anticipates well, has the ability shoot to the three, to put the ball on the deck and finish in a a lot of different ways.

"Brock is still learning a lot and will continue to improve markedly. He'll get better and better."

Motum boosted his chances of playing for the Boomers at the World Cup when he had a solid showing during the Sino/Australia Challenge.
