North Central High School sophomore Eron Gordon (10) celebrates the team's victory after a boys varsity basketball action Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at North Central High School. North Central defeated Lawrence North 56-52.

Eron Gordon's eligibility appeal with the Department of Education's case review panel was filed today.

Gordon, a 6-2 junior, was ruled ineligible by the Indiana High School Athletic Association after transferring from North Central to Cathedral. The IHSAA ruled that Gordon had transferred for athletic reasons, making him ineligible for one calendar year. His appeal with the IHSAA's review committee was denied in late August.

The Department of Education's review committee does not hear new testimony, but reviews the transcripts of the IHSAA's review hearing. The Department of Education's nine-person review panel is led by committee chairman George Frampton, four administrators and four parents of high school athletes. It was added as another layer to the review process in 2000.

A date has not yet been set for the Department of Education's review. If Gordon is denied eligibility at that stage, the family could take its case to the court.

Gordon, who has offers from Indiana and Purdue, averaged 14.7 points and 4.4 rebounds as a sophomore at North Central and was named the Star's third team Super Team.
