SEC West hoops recruiting run continues as Mississippi State lands top guard Eli Wright

It’s been a very big week for college basketball programs in the SEC’s West Division.

As first reported by Scout basketball recruiting analyst Evan Daniels, consensus four-star shooting guard Eli Wright committed to Mississippi State on Monday afternoon during an official visit. The pledge came hours after Terrence Ferguson committed to Alabama and a day removed from Mustapha Heron’s pledge to Auburn.

A shooting guard at Apollo High in Owensboro, Kent., Wright committed to Mississippi State coach Ben Howland rather than scholarship offers from a number of the nation’s most elite programs … though not from Kentucky. Wright was considered the No. 2 prospect in the state of Kentucky, and one would imagine he might still change his mind if Coach Calipari came calling,

Or maybe he wouldn’t. According to Daniels, Wright is more than just content with his choice of a future in StarkVegas. Add to that the presence of Wright’s best friend, Aric Holman, and there may be plenty to keep him committed to the Bulldogs after all.

“I got a gut feeling,” Wright told Daniels. “Everything is right. I felt at home. The coaches are into it.

“Coach Howland has been great through out the whole process.”
