Unbeaten No. 1 Oak Hill continues to show its strength with big sweep in California

Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) showed why it’s the No. 1 team in the Super 25 with its second win against a ranked team in two nights in Southern California.

After a 64-60 victory against No. 13 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) on Friday, Oak Hill downed No. 9 Bishop O’Dowd (Oakland) by a 63-52 score in one of the marquee games in the Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei in Santa Ana.

Oak Hill also beat Bishop O’Dowd, 58-49, in the Iolani Classic in Hawaii in December.

“We’re trying to come out every game to win,” Oak Hill star and Florida State signee Dwayne Bacon said Friday night, according grassrootshoops.net. “This is our most important weekend of the season coming out to the Nike Extravaganza. We’re trying to be that No. 1 team and show it to people who think we aren’t.”

Oak Hill (35-0) took an early lead and was up 34-18 at halftime. Bacon had 22 points and Daniel Giddens had 15.

For O’Dowd, star Ivan Rabb had 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Oak Hill next faces Hamilton Heights (26-2) of Chattanooga, Tenn., on Monday.

“There’s a lot of excitement about that game,” Hawks coach Zach Ferrell told Chattanooga.com. “There are few opportunities in life when you get to play the number one team in the country at their place on their home floor. Obviously, Oak Hill is an amazing team with great players, great coaches and a great tradition.”
