Sexton eyes Power Five programs

Mableton (Ga.) Pebblebrook guard Collin Sexton has been putting up monster numbers for one of the best high school teams in the Peach State. Most recently, he went for 44 points in a region tournament semifinal game against Douglas County High School, where he was matched up on North Carolina signee Brandon Robinson.

Alabama, Florida, Vanderbilt, Iowa State, Clemson, Ole Miss, and UAB have been heavily involved in his recruitment of late. Cincinnati joined the mix Wednesday night when it pulled the trigger on a scholarship offer. Sexton, who will likely jump into four-star range when the 2017 Rivals150 is updated, has only visited Alabama so far and has been there multiple times.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: Sexton broke down what he liked about some of the programs aggressively recruiting him right now.

Alabama: “It’s a pretty good program. Coach Avery Johnson is a really good coach. The visit there went well. Everything is pretty nice there.”

Cincinnati: “I don’t know too much about them, but I like their program. I’ve watched a few games. I like them.”

Florida: “I like watching Kasey Hill play. I like how he plays in their offense, how he finds his open teammates, and plays an all around game.”

Iowa State: “My cousin is Monte Morris. I like the new coaching staff there. They just came in and are doing a really good job. It’s big time.”

Vanderbilt: “I like watching Wade Baldwin play for them. I like the way they play too.”

WHAT’S NEXT?: With the state tournament coming up for Sexton, look for Sexton to keep his focus on that for the next month. When the high school season ends, he’ll likely suit up for the Southern Stampede once again in the Nike EYBL. As for a college decision, he doesn’t appear to have a time-table for when a commitment could come. He says “it could be a while or it might not be”.

RIVALS’ REACTION: Given that Sexton has only visited Alabama, it appears the Crimson Tide have the edge in this one right now. Florida, Iowa State and Vanderbilt all appear to be legitimate contenders as well.
