Looking ahead to Thursday’s NBA draft, in which forward Mike Moser is the UO prospect thought to have the best chance of being selected. Moser has spent the last several weeks criss-crossing the country for workouts with various franchises.

What: 2014 NBA draft
When: Thursday, 4:30 p.m. PT
Where: New York
Rounds: Two
TV: ESPN

What the scouts are saying:

““He’s a little bit of a do-it-all. He does a little bit of everything: He can shoot the ball well, he can defend, he brings a ton of energy. He’s always (all) over the place, rebounding the ball from the wing. That’s going to get him through the door and get him noticed and that’s what fueled him at UNLV and at Oregon. That’s the first thing: to outplay people and outwork them and then get a chance to show people your other skills.”

--  Ime Udoka, seven-year NBA vet and current San Antonio assistant, SLAM magazine, June 11

“After graduating from UNLV with eligibility to spare, Moser elected to transfer to Oregon, where he slowly, but surely got his career back on track. He found his shooting touch, established himself as Oregon's starting power forward, and earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 honors on an Oregon team that finished 24-10 and won a game in the NCAA Tournament. Now at age 23, a few years removed from significant draft hype, does Moser still have a shot at cracking an NBA rotation? …

“It appears that he has been building some steady draft buzz with solid performances at pre-draft workouts. It would not be surprising at all to see Moser get some looks in the later second round should he continue to perform well in workouts. After a down year at UNLV and toiling in relative anonymity at Oregon, it would seem that Mike Moser's career is finally back on track.”

“Moser, who played at both UCLA and UNLV, always has been a legit prospect, and has recaptured the glory of his sophomore campaign at UNLV. However, he's already 23 years old. Are 13.5 PPG and 8 RPG enough at that age?”

What Moser is saying:

“I'm confident in my abilities and I knew as soon as I did a few workouts word would get around and people would open up to my game a little more. I think probably the biggest question I get asked is, 'What position are you?' Are you a wing or a 'four'?' I can play both positions, I always have. Whether it's a bigger guy I can take advantage of mismatches or smaller guys the same way, taking them outside or inside. Defensively what teams were concerned about is how my body's developed and the strength I've gained.”

--  The Oregonian, June 17

“A lot of teams like me more than other teams. You kind of have to hope the right team has the right pick in the right spot to draft me. It is all about the fit.”
