Michigan basketball coach John Beilein wasn't ready to close the door on giving out the Wolverines' final 2014-15 scholarship earlier this week.

And now, we might know why.

ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman reported that former West Virginia sophomore guard Eron Harris officially received his scholarship release Wednesday, allowing him to transfer.

And one of the first people to reach out, per Goodman, was Beilein.

Harris, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Indianapolis, racked up 17.2 points per game a year ago for the Mountaineers. He shot 42.2 percent from behind the 3-point line, grabbed 3.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

Barring some type of special NCAA waiver, Harris would likely have to sit out a year to complete the transfer process. He would then have two years of eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2015-16 season.

Michigan presently has 12 scholarship spoken for in 2014-15, and though Harris may have to sit out a year, his scholarship -- should he choose to come to Ann Arbor -- would go on the books for next season, which would in turn bring Michigan up to the NCAA-mandated 13 scholarships.

"We're never done, we'll look at this last one that we might have and be very judicious with it," Beilein said. "We'll see where it goes, because it could be coming into '15 right away, or '16."
