NCAA Tournament: Top recruit Aaron Gordon to attend Oregon's NCAA opener

Dana Altman has made recruiting the Bay Area a priority.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — One of the nation's top basketball recruits is scheduled to attend Oregon's NCAA Tournament game Thursday against Oklahoma State.

Aaron Gordon, a 6-foot-8 power forward from San Jose, has the Ducks as one of his final choices, along with Washington, Arizona and Kentucky.

Oregon freshman point guard Dominic Artis and Gordon played AAU ball together with the Oakland Soldiers. Artis confirmed Gordon would be on hand for Thursday's game at HP Pavilion.

"Definitely trying to keep Oregon in his ear," Artis said. "It would be great if we got him up there for next year."

Gordon, who has drawn comparisons to the Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin, is rated by ESPN.com as the No. 4 recruit in the nation. He has been named to the McDonald's All-American team.

Oregon coach Dana Altman and his staff have made a concerted effort to recruit the Bay Area. Those efforts paid off with Artis, and they could prove beneficial again.

"It's a very important area for us and hopefully it will go our way," Altman said, without mentioning a particular recruit. "DA is a big part of that and hopefully it will continue."
