The Big Reds improved to 26-0 by pounding Ann Arbor Skyline 73-57 in the Class A state quarterfinals Tuesday night at Lansing Eastern as juniors Deyonta Davis and Joeviair Kennedy led the way.

In a big way.

Davis, a 6-foot-9 junior center, scored a game-high 27 points and Kennedy, a 6-5 forward, added 25 points for the Big Reds.

Together, they shot 24-of-28 from the floor as the Big Reds had plenty of dunks off the fast break against Skyline.

Muskegon jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first quarter and never trailed the rest of the way.

They led 22-12 after the first quarter, 38-21 at halftime and the lead grew to 70-45 when Muskegon pulled its starters with 3:03 to play.

Senior guard Deshaun Thrower, who named Mr. Basketball on Monday, shot 1-for-5 and finished with just six points, 12 below his average, but he had 10 assists.

Jonathon Muir-Cotton led Skyline with 13 points. Tristan Wilson, Skyline’s 6-8 center, was no match for Davis and had five points and three rebounds.

Muskegon advances to play 22-4 Mount Pleasant, a 69-39 winner against Howell, in Friday’s Class A state semifinals at 1 p.m. Friday at Michigan State University.

Skyline finishes the season 17-8.
