NBA Comparison: Charlie Ward

Strengths:  An electric point guard with tremendous leaping ability and all around athleticism … Excellent scoring lead guard … Extremely exciting playmaker that excels at attacking the basket for high flying finishes … Adept at driving off the dribble as well as slashing to the basket for put back dunks off of missed shots … A flashy playmaker.  Has an excellent pull up off the dribble … Shows range on his shot out to NBA three … Bigtime athlete whose game is suited to an up tempo system … Solid mechanics on his jumpshot with a smooth release … Ball handling ability is very good … Has a nasty crossover and a lightning quick first step which makes him difficult to stay in front of … Vision and passing skills, though raw, show some promise … Long wingspan … Has shown the ability to step up in big situations …

Weaknesses:  Made the transition to point guard late in his high school career, and still getting the feel for running a team … Must continue to work on his point guard skills: learning to manage a team and become better at making decisions in the half court game … 2-3 seasons in college learning to be a complete floor general will do wonders long term for his NBA career … Vision and passing skills need improvement …  Needs to work on elevating the play of teammates … Must learn to value the ball better and cut down on turnovers … A wild stallion that needs to be broken. Gets carried away with being flashy and can be out of control because of it … Must change his defensive approach and improve his intensity … Needs to add some strength … Born in 1991, is a little older for a freshman … Must prove himself at the college level, learn to become a leader and true point guard …

Notes: Flew under the radar throughout high school career – was rated outside the top 40 on most recruiting lists coming out of high school (Dave Telep of Scout.com had him rated the highest of any scouting service at 21) … Did not participate in any of the showcase post season high school All American games … Somehow made it out of the North Carolina ACC wheelhouse down to Talahassee… As a junior won the North Carolina 1A state championship game with a buzzer beating 3 pointer lifting United Faith Christian Academy over John Wall’s Word of God Academy for a 56-53 victory …
