    Who’s the better prospect?

Another tough one here. Both players are excellent two way players that make winning plays all over the court. Doesn’t matter if its during a jumpball, in inbound, on offense or defense these guys make plays.

Johnny Davis gets alot of comparisons to Devin Booker. Although if I had to compare him to any player “offensively” it would be a smaller Demar Derozan. Booker is more of a take what you give me type of guy, he can make difficult shots of course but he really is less likely to force the tough ones. Davis has really shown the ability to be a tough shot taker tough shot maker. The type of player that makes a contested turnaround jumpshot from 17 feet somehow look like a good shot. Unlike Derozan he has alot of grit and grind to him and can operate well in the ugly games by getting blocks, steals, loose balls and just being a pest. I see his floor as a Josh Hart kind of role and think he can fit in on any team. In a lesser role he may also shoot the ball alot better from long range.

Ben Mathurin has elite athleticism and great size for a guard/wing. He really came on strong as a leader this year after returning to school despite getting interest in the lottery and it seems to have paid off. His off the ball shooting is something every team needs in the NBA and he seems like he will be able to fill a role similar to Jordan Poole or Gary Trent immediately. Where he needs to continue growing is with his playmaking and ballhandling, that would take his game to the next level. Worst case scenario I see him having a very good career as a two way player similar to KCP.

I have Mathurin for this one having just a slight edge because he projects as a guy that should be able to guard more positions in theory and have a more defined role playing off of high usage players. But don’t sleep on Davis. He has true first option upside.

I’ll take Eggs Bennedict Mathurin. He has a better shot, is an underrated passer and plays well on the defensive end. Imo, Johnny Davis could slide out of the lottery. I like both players, but Davis didn’t finish his college career well. You can argue that Mathurin had the game of the tournament. If Davis had a 3 ball I’d consider him the better prospect.

I’d slightly prefer Mathurin to Davis given his extra size but Davis is a tremendous rebounder for his size and has the ability to be elite at both ends. He could be more the guy to light up a franchise but I just think Ben is a safer pick and the perfect sidekick to a developing top star on a team.

I’d be interesting also if any of them could break into the “Big 4” in the draft. Ben is potentially the top swingman in this draft class and ay team looking for a fit there could be drawn to him. Davis may be competing against Ivey on a team need basis more than Mathurin is. But I’d expect both to be taken inside the top 10.

I gotta feeling that Sharpe of the grouped lottery candidates will be the 5th pick. He has an outside shot at going top 4.

Yep Jonathan Givony and Mike Schmitz are a lot higher on Sharpe than this site’s official mock is. But as one of the younger guys in the draft Sharpe will have upside in his favour. With a guy like him apart from doing a workout a front office is blown away with it could really be about how he comes across as a person. Remember some Front Offices like high character guys the likes of Kevin Pritchard with the Pacers at 5 on the current draft board always used to so with him drafting high again this year that could be a factor too.

I’m actually wondering right now if Sharpe can be considered the top prospect. Sounds crazy, but I think he’s the Scottie Barnes of this years’ draft in terms of rising up in it and if anyone bumps any usual suspects in the top 4 or even all of them, it’s Sharpe. He could be in the conversation as the top pick… I believe in some circles he already is…

I’ve heard the same. Could be the first guard off the board.

Toss up to me and just depends on what you are looking for. Johnny Davis is a combo guard that is tough defensively and good at getting to the rim and creating out of the pick and roll. Bennedict Mathurin is more of a traditional wing that can create his own shot and work as a spot up shooter off the ball.
