NBA Comparison: Brain Shaw

Aran Smith – 2/10/2008

Strengths: 2-guard with excellent shooting ability. Has a nose for scoring and does so in a varety of ways … Has soft touch on his shot and good range … Uses the jabstep to create space for jumpshots well … Attacks the basket off the dribble … Gets to the line a lot where he capitalizes well (83 ft%) … His ability to shoot from outside as well as drive to the basket makes him a tough assignment to defend … Displays a solid ability to score even with opposing teams focusing their defenses on him … Solid athletically with good length. Nothing extraordinary but has solid speed and agility … A good defender. Quick hands and feet and a solid effort level … Vision and ball handling ability are decent …

Weaknesses: Lacks a huge frame and great body strength … Would be able to finish at the rim and be a more dangerous slasher if he could add more body strength … Added strength would give him better balance as well as increase his shooting range … Doesn’t have wide shoulders and appers to be a guy who will always be on the skinny side … His statistics are impressive, but diminished playing in the Big West … Needs to cut down on turnovers … His ability to create off the dribble is somewhat limited by an average first step … Not especially explosive or fast …

Notes: Leading scorer in the Big West Conference and likely 2007-08 player of the year … One of the top 3 point % shooters in the nation …
