NBA Comparison: Martynas Andriuskevicius

Matthew Maurer – 2/11/2007

Strengths: With his height and defensive prowess he does a good job of congesting the lane Offensively he understands the value of keeping the ball high Possesses decent hands, soft enough to catch most passes in the post without bobbling them Solid finisher around the basket where he scores a good majority of his points on put-backs, lay-ups or dunks Despite his size Begic is a solid athlete with good coordination and solid mobility Solid runner of the court but is by no means a speedster Defensively he possesses real shot blocking talent as his timing and quick reaction enables him to be disruptive Possesses decent lateral quickness to rotate over as a help defender Has a solid nose for the ball where he does a good job reading where the ball will go on rebounds Has shown the ability to hit the occasional perimeter shot but struggles to make it with regularity Does a very good job of drawling fouls on opposing defenders in the post Post footwork is above average but not exceptional From a potential standpoint Begic has yet to achieve his ceiling but hes getting there

Weaknesses: Athletically Begic isnt very quick nor explosive which makes you wonder whether he can defend on the NBA level Even more of a detriment is his lack of body strength Must continue to add weight which may be a concern as his body type suggests this will be difficult Simply struggles to effectively obtain position in the post and keep it without getting rooted out Doesnt convert much after absorbing contact Plays limited minutes for a reason as his below average stamina effects him in games Will struggle to rebound if he doesnt get certain fundamentals down such as boxing out Defensively he remains a little foul prone as he tends to have trouble when guarding physical opponents Remains uncomfortable shooting from the perimeter and must continue to expand his range Has struggled with injuries for much of his career which leaves a doubt about his durability Doesnt read double teams very well and lacks the passing ability to react quickly Back to the basket skills are in need of refinement
