mikeyvthedonParticipantFor those who did not know, the Nike Peach Jam is happening the next 4 days in North Augusta, SC. It is the play-offs for the 40 team Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL), and features the 24 teams that finished with the best records during their 15 game regular seasons, that took place in 3 separate 5 game weekend tournaments.
The EYBL is missing Shabazz Muhammad and Andre Drummond (Both of whom recently did incredibly well, particularly Shabazz, in the Adidas Invitational this past weekend. Neither of their teams won the tournament, but they both put up numbers, and Shabazz had a big time game against Andre’s team, finishing with 39. I believe Andre finished with 29, but Shabazz’s team did indeed win the game), but it has a number of VERY high level prospects from the 2012, 2013 and 2014 HS classes. There are many names here you will soon be seeing on Mock Drafts in the near future.
Here is the link to the EYBL’s website:
http://www.nikeeliteyouthbasketballleague.com/
To look up the most recent scores, click on the "Peach Jam 2011" menu.
Quick recap of standout statistical performances from the today (the first games):
Georgia Stars (GA) vs. Athletes First (OK): 6’4 James Woodard had a monster game for Athletes first, finishing with 27 points and 15 boards. Athletes First won 74-71, and overcame 17 and 10 from top rated SF/PF recruit Alex Poythress and 16 from PF/C Tony Parker. Athletes First also features well known 2015 prospect Allonzo Trier, who scored a bucket in 4 minutes.
Indy Spiece (IN) vs. Team Texas Titans (TX): Indy Spiece won 57-56, leading scorer being D’Vauntes Smith Rivera with 14 for Spiece. 2013 prospects Matt Jones had 26 while Julius Randle, a PF considered by many to be the best recruit in the junior class, finished with 18 (only 4-12 from the field, 10-13 from the line).
CP3 (NC) vs. Albany City Rocks (NY): In a game featuring 3 of the class of 2012’s brightest, CP3 came out ahead 76-63 lead by a double-double from combo guard Rodney Purvis (17 and 10 assists). Theo Pinson, a wing man who is currently atop ESPN’s 2014 rankings, finished with 5 points and 5 assists for CP3. Ricardo Ledo lead Albany with 29 while DaJuan Coleman had 14, with each player pulling down 8 boards.
Mac Irvin Fire (IL) vs. Mean Streets (IL): Jabari Parker (12 points, 6 boards, couple of steals) and newly minted DePaul verbal Billy Garrett (19, 4, 4) won the Illinois battle 65-56. Mac Irvin has some help inside too with Scout.com’s top rated Football Player for the class of 2012 and USC verbal Aaric Armstead (6’8/280) who scored 12. He also might play basketball for the Trojans, and is a LOAD inside. Mean Streets got 16 from Curtis Jones and 14 from Malcolm Hill-Bey, a couple of PG’s for the class of 2012.
Team Takeover (DC) vs. All-Ohio Red (OH): Team Takeover, who went 15-0 through the regular season in impressive fashion, won the game only 73-68. DeMatha combo guard James Robinson was impressive as usual (13, 10 boards, 5 assists), while Patrick Holloway chipped in with 18. Jonathan Tshibuy had 17 and 9 as well, while Jerami Grant struggled from the field for Takeover but finished with 14. Ohio Red was lead by Michigan State commit Kenny Kaminski (21 points) and Deontae Hawkins (15). The free throw disparity was ENORMOUS in this game, and was 43-15 for Takeover. Shows that getting to the line wins you ball games, and Takeoever must know how to get there.
Oakland Soldiers (CA) vs. Boo Williams (VA): The stacked Soldiers took this one down 87-78. Brandon Ashley, one of the top PF prospects in the class of 2012 who is headed to Findlay Prep for his senior year, finished with 24/11. Dominic Artis finished with 22, 2013 SG Jabari Bird had 10 and top 2013 PF Aaron Gordon finished with 8 and 7. Josh Fortune had 24 for Boo Williams and Justin Anderson, a top rated SF and Virginia verbal, had 23 in a losing effort.
Memphis YOMCA (TN) vs. California Supreme (CA): Guard Martavious Newby’s 21 points lead Memphis to a close 73-71 victory. Jarnell Stokes and Shaq Goodwin, two of the top rated post players in the class of 2012, each finished with 14 points and combined for 14 rebounds (9 going to Goodwin). Julian Harrell lead California Supreme with 16, and Marqueze Coleman, Jacob Hazzard and Daddy Ugbede all had double figures as well.
BABC (MA) vs. All-Iowa Attack (IA): A definite favorite for Peach Jam supremacy, BABC wore down Iowa for a 61-39 victory. Reading Dave Telep’s twitter, 2013 Center Nerlens Noel’s defense definitely had a major effect on Attack’s paint producation. Noel, who was recently described by John Calipari as "a Marcus Camby clone", finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks. George Niang, an Iowa State commit, had 16 to lead BABC, and super 2014 wing prospect (and Niang/Noel HS teammate at Tilton School) Wayne Selen chipped in with 8. Recent NBAPA Camp MVP Adam Woodbury finished with 10 and 10 for Attack and North Carolina PG commit Marcus Paige finished with 9 points.
Houston Hoops (TX) vs. Arkansas Wings (AR): Guard heavy Houston Hoops downed the Wings 76-61. Lead by three top 2012 combo guards, Houston Hoops has to be another favorite in the Peach Jam. Duke commit Rasheed Sulaimon was the leading scorer with 18 and J-Mychal Reese was close behind with 17. LJ Rose quite obviously took his distribution duties seriously, finishing with 11 assists and 0 points. 2014 wing Justin Jackson, another player fighting for top player in the sophomore class, finished with 7 points for the victors. Top 2012 SG Archie Goodwin, who is VERY recently back from injury, lead Arkansas with 14.
Baltimore Elite (MD) vs. Louisiana Select (LA): B-More won it 60-51. Samuel Cassell (sound familiar?) scored 11 points for B-More, who was lead by Isaiah Miles with 13. Beastly undersized PF Ricardo Gathers, who is the EYBL’s leading rebounder and a top rated prospect in 2012, finished with totals of 19 and 10.
Playaz Basketball Club (NJ) vs. The Family (MI): In this high scoring contest, Playaz Club trumped Family values 90-82. Kyle Anderson, who can literally play any position on the court and is by far the most versatile HS player at this current moment, finished with 27 points, 14 boards and 7 assists. Anderson is not a top flight athlete, but he is a great basketball player and could end up as a 6’8 PG in college. Myles Davis had a cool 21, rising 2012 SG Darrick Wood had 18 and Villanova commit Savon Goodman finished with 10. Auburn SG Jordan Price lead the Family with 25 points (6 treys) and Canadian prospect Junior Lomomba had 18. Bryn Forbes and Malik Albert finished with 17 and 16 in a losing effort as well.
CIA Bounce (Canada) vs. Howard Pulley (MN): Postponed and had not been posted as of yet.
Well, hopefully that gives you all some info, and here is my initial breakdown of the Peach Jam teams for good measure:

scoutguruParticipantGood post. The main thing I’m following here is a local kid from Jersey, Kyle Anderson’s recruitment who had a monster game. Said recently he’ll announce his college decision on his 18th birthday, Sept 20th. His list currently consist of 5 schools: Seton Hall, St Johns, Georgetown, Florida, and UCLA. All have their coaches there watching him play. I personally think is really btw my Johnnies and Georgetown. I wonder if he has his mind made up already, or if he’s still deciding. My thought was, if he was sure where it was, he’d probably announce already, who knows. And Seton Hall has a chance, but the talent level won’t be the same there at some other schools, and he’s a guy who’d flourish with talent around him like St Johns is sure to have. But he certainly could go there and be the man and lead Seton Hall back to respectability and would open eyes and attract other good talent. Said a while ago too that Seton Hall was doing the best job recruiting him cause they keep things short, don’t know how much that counts for so we’ll see. His style of play and game seems to be almost a perfect match for Georgetown’s system. It’ll be interesting to see where he goes.

mikeyvthedonParticipantPulley won 94-79. 2012 SG Isaiah Zierden (all of 6’2 and 165 pounds) poured in 31 points, including going 12-12 from the line. Tyus Jones, who is widely considered the top PG prospect in the Class of 2014 thanks to his work in the EYBL and for Team USA’s U-16 team, scored 19 with 5 steals. Siyani Charles put up 18 and Zach Stahl got 17. Big win for Howard Pulley, as they made the Peach Jam as an At-Large bid after going 7-8 during league play. Andrew Wiggins (someone who you probably have heard of if you visit this board and do not live under a rock. If not, Google him), scored 29 points (12-23 from the field, 5-6 from the line), had 6 boards, 4 steals and 4 blocks.
Unfortunately, Wiggins also had 7 Turnovers (no assists) as Canada turned the ball over 22 times. They also were out shot from the line 43-18, which more than likely means they were outworked and attacked, or more than likely did not attack enough. Either way, a disappointing start to the EYBL for the Canucks. Xavier Rathan-Mayes put in 11, while Anthony Bennett and Canada’s leading scorer from the U-19 tournament Dyshawn Pierre each had a 10 spot. Bennett did foul out of the game, and only played 21 minutes, so here is hoping he heats up as the tourney progresses, because he had a fantastic spring and is turning into one of the more intriguing prospects in 2012. Sim Bhullar was playing (he was hurt for the last few games of the U-19 tourney), but was held to 6 points (3-8 shooting) and 5 boards.
@scoutguru: I have been a huge fan of Anderson’s since I saw him playing at Adidas Nations last year. He is incredibly skilled and is one of my favorite prospects out there. I do not know if you saw the St. Anthony’s vs. St. Patrick’s Game, but Anderson went toe to toe with Michael Gilchrist, and I felt got the better of him in their match-up. Mike still had a defensive impact, but Anderson did as well, he was all over the court and St. Anthony’s came on top. Myles Mack was huge as well, and St. Anthony’s just seemed to be the better team, but I think Kyle Anderson has an old school game that puts him ahead of most of the competition.
I bet he will play all over the floor in college, and probably translate to a point forward in the NBA. From what I have been hearing, St. John’s may indeed be the favorite. I think Lavin needs a PG, and that Anderson would fit that perfectly. He is not the most impressive athlete, but his basketball IQ is top notch, and he is a big time competitor. I have no idea if he knows where he wants to go, but sometimes these guys wait until they decide. This class has had very few prospects give their decisions as of yet, but I am very eager to see where Kyle Anderson goes. He is a player whose game might translate more to college than the NBA, and I could see him maybe spending a few years in the NCAA rather than being a one and done. Think he will be a MAJOR grab for any college team that swoops him up, he should contribute from Day 1.

paradigmnParticipantI watched all of the u16 usa team play in the FIBA games and I LOVE Tyus Jones game. Very smart player. Tough loss for CIA BOUNCE. They are a nice azz squad. They went undefeated in the last EYBL in Los Angeles and are currently rated as the 7th best 17u aau team…..here are the AAU rankings and details about the teams.(not all these teams are in the Peach Jam)….http://fivestarbasketball.com/top25/21-17U-2011-06-15

mikeyvthedonParticipantYeah, I thought those 5 Star Rankings were cool. It is kind of crazy that these guys kind of play according to sports wear rather than competition, but that is how it works I guess. EYBL has a lot of awesome players, and the top teams do seem to be EYBL, but of course there are some fantastic guys who will more than likely join Nike when they go pro :).
Just kidding, but I BELIEVE (do not know for sure) that the Fab 48 tournament coming up in a couple weeks will have most of those teams regardless of sponsorship. I think the inaugural one was held last summer, and that this one will still be in Vegas. It was held at Bishop Gorman last year, so I flat out expect Shabazz Muhammad and Dream Vision being front and center, along with some of these EYBL teams hopefully. Here is the link:

mikeyvthedonParticipantFree health care is nice. Internet poker, well, I used to play free once in a while, and I play on my phone, but I take free health care over that. I pretty much know the same streaming you use. If I find any, I will definitely post it, as you and I tend to do. I did my article on the Nike Global Challenge all off of what I saw when I was live streaming the games from Oregon. It was on Oregon Live, and I am guessing it will be again. The Adidas Nations was shown on CBS College Sports, which was awesome. So, I am guessing that will be streamed as well. But, with some of these tournaments, I am guessing they may not be shown on television, or are just in poor quality.
The live streaming of OFSAA this year (Ontario championships, which Vaughn won and Wiggins was MVP) was really poor. But, I think I might have been able to get the Pangos, it was just that Silverlight was not seeming to work on my comp. What I can’t get is ESPN3 due to my Canadian-ity at this current juncture. Lucky enough I was visiting my family on Oregon during the last two Hoop Summit’s, and I lived there for 7 years before coming back to Toronto. I got to meet up with a couple of people I had yet to meet, so that was cool too.
Do not know if the image works, but it would be a picture of myself, Aran and Tyler, lol.

paradigmnParticipantMust be a nice picture…lol…that sux you can’t get espn 3…they do a wonderful job with euroleague games and high school as well as college….plus all the other events that don’t get much publicity…..and they have a plethora of archieved games as well. - CIA Bounced All-Iowa Attack 55-53 in their low scoring meeting. Anthony Bennett finished with 18 and 9, Naz Long finished with 10, while Andrew Wiggins struggled in this contest with only 5. Mike Gessell lead Iowa with 16, Marcus Paige finished with 13 and Iowa big man and NBAPA camp MVP Adam Woodbury was held to 4 points in 18 minutes, assuming foul trouble might have been a reason. Big Sim Bhullar finished with 6 points in just as many minutes, making all of his FG’s.
- The Arkansas Wings seem to be a one man show, and they were stopped by the Georgia Stars, losing 78-68. Arkansas’ go to guy, Archie Goodwin, finished with 25 points. Alex Poythress (21/10) and Tony Parker (12/11) put up double doubles, and Jaron Blossomgame finished with 21 points (9-11 shooting from the field).
- Indiana Spiece pulled out a one point victory over Louisiana Select, 62-61! D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera put in 25 points for Spiece, while Raphael Davis and AJ Hammons each scored 10. PF Ricardo Gathers continued his strong EYBL play with 18 and 14 in Select’s loss.
- CP3 kept up their winning ways, beating the Family (MI) 66-61. Rodney Purvis had 14, Brice Johnson had 16 and Theo Pinson put up 7 for CP3. Junior Lomomba paced The Family with 18 while Bryn Forbes chipped in with 17.
- Mac Irvin Fire handed Howard Pulley their first loss of the tourney, 60-53. PG Billy Garrett scored 16, Jabari Parker had 14/7 and Steve Taylor finished with 10/12 for Mac Irvin. Pulley was paced by 18 from Isaiah Zierden and 16 from PG Tyus Jones.
Also, early third game moved CIA Bounce to 2-1 in the tourney, as they beat Mean Streets 80-53. Sim Bhullar finished with 10/13, and Wiggins and Bennett finished with 14 and 13 respectively!

Sim Bhullar finished with 10/13, and Wiggins and Bennett finished with 14 and 13 respectively!

mikeyvthedonParticipantGeorgia Stars (Top Players: Alex Poythress, Tony Parker, Jaron Blossomgame) vs. Mac Irvin Fire (Jabari Parker, Billy Garrett, Steve Taylor)
Oakland Soldiers (Brandon Ashley, Aaron Gordon, Dominic Artis) vs. NJ Playaz Club (Kyle Anderson, Myles Davis, Savon Goodman)
Memphis YOMCA (Jarnell Stokes, Shaq Goodwin, Martavious Newby) vs. Texas Titans (Julius Randle, Matt Jones, Prince Ibeh)
BABC (Nerlens Noel, George Niang, Wayne Seldon) vs. Team Takeover (James Robinson, Jerami Grant, Patrick Holloway)
Quick Notes:
- CIA Bounce (who I was pushing for) ending up losing the game they needed to advance to Mac Irvin Fire. Andrew Wiggins scored 19 (6-8 shooting from the field) in the loss.
- Kyle Anderson has been putting up fantastic all-around numbers. He has had two triple doubles and has been a force all over the court it seems.
- Nerlens Noel is a shot blocking terror, and recorded a triple double last night against CIA bounce in BABC’s OT win. Noel finished the game with 12 blocks, and has been the leading blocker in the EYBL by far.
- After finishing the regular season at 15-0, Team Takeover has lost two games and barely made their way into the Quarterfinals. They draw a really tough match-up with BABC, a team that had finished the regular season at 14-1.
- Memphis YOMCA and the Oakland Soldiers are 5-0 at the Peach Jam. BABC looked to have sat their starters in a game they barely lost to Howard Pulley (MN). Tyus Jones finished with 31, but Mac Irvin still took the last play-off spot in their group.
- Albany City Rocks, who have arguably two top 10-15 players in the class of 2012 in DaJuan Coleman and Rickey Ledo, were the only team not to win one game at the Peach Jam.
Quarter Final Games start tonight @ 6, rest of the tourney finishes tomorrow. I believe the championship game will be at 7 pm EST on ESPNU. Great players on these Final 8 teams, will be very interesting to see who wins.

mikeyvthedonParticipantHe was on New York Gauchos in the EYBL. Omar seems to be a fantastic scorer, and is ranked as one of the better SG’s in 2012. But, Gauchos did finish only 5-10 in EYBL play. I am not an expert on AAU by any means, but I try to find out which teams have the best prospects and such. The EYBL just seems like an awesome concept to me, so I try to follow that closely. I have no idea about the Hoopgroup tournaments, but I remember going to basketball tournaments when I was a lot younger and it was a lot of fun. Great way to meet people and build amongst our community as basketball players/fans/enthusiasts. Here is the link to the team rosters, if you want to check who is on which team. For those that do not have rosters, maybe check a regular season box score:

mikeyvthedonParticipantHere were the results of the Quarterfinal games:
Georgia Stars 76 Mac Irvin Fire 61: Tony Parker had 16 and 11 for the Stars, and Alex Poythress had a fantastic all-around stat line with 9 points, 10 boards and 8 assists. Jaron Blossomgame lead the Stars with 22, while Marcus Hunt drained 4 trey’s and ended up with 18. Mac Irvin was lead by Billy Garrett, who capped off a great Tourney with 21. Jabari Parker (who is fighting for top player in the class of 2013) finished with 12 (only 4-14 shooting) and Steve Taylor had 11.
Oakland Soldiers 79 NJ Playaz Club 73: Oakland remained undefeated, with beastly Brandon Ashley getting a double-double (18/11) and Dominic Artis draining 6 from long range (finishing with a team leading 26). Aaron Gordon had 14 as well for a team that has to be one of the tourney faves. Kyle Anderson finishes an incredible All-Around tourney 1 board away from a triple double (20, 9, 10 assists). Jerome Frink had a double-double in the loss, and Myles Davis/Savon Goodman both had 14 points.
YOMCA 69 Texas Titans 68: Looks like YOMCA narrowly escaped defeat here, but they are going to the semis. Top rated PF Jarnell Stokes had 15-12-6, Athlon Bell had 19 and Martavious Newby finished with 10 and 7 dimes. Julius Randle came up huge in the loss with 30 and 10 (8-13 FG, 14-17 FT). As a player who many think might be the best player in HS regardless of class, he sure seemed to show it here, very impressive how close Team Texas came to beating a YOMCA team that has been fantastic all tourney. Matt Jones had 12 and Marquan Botley had 14 in the loss as well.
BABC 79 Team Takeover 56: The early tourney favorite drew an incredibly tough match-up here, and the team that once looked unbeatable had a play-offs with 3 losses. George Niang (Iowa State commit) poured in 31, and super swatter Nerlens Noel had 5 rejections with 8 points and boards. Jaylen Brantley also scored 21 for the victors and super 2014 prospect Wayne Selden scored 8. Very balanced scoring for the DC based Takeover, with Canadian Jonathan Tshibuy scoring 12. Beejay Anya’s long wingspan put up 9, along with Kethan Savage, James Robinson and Jerami Grant.
All of the favorites won their quarterfinal match-ups and it will be BABC vs. Oakland Soldiers and YOMCA vs. Georgia Stars deciding the Finalists. These are all incredible squads and have appeared to be the best teams this weekend, should be very exciting to see how it goes down. I am thinking BABC is the team to beat, their defense has been incredible. I think it will be a YOMCA versus BABC final, and I think BABC takes the tourney championship. Seems like Julius Randle and Jabari Parker are commonly seen as the top 2013 players, but Nerlens Noel is truly a unique prospect that brings incredible energy and unique talent to the table.

Mr. 19134ParticipantGreat shit Mikey loved reading the updates. I’m really surprised Amile Jefferson is not on that Jersey team or if he is he has not been performing up to his capabilities.
I’m really expecting Savon Goodman to move further up the rankings and be a Mcdonals All American by the time he graduates he just needs to add more range and refine his ball handling ability to become a monster Small Forward prospect.
And Kyle Anderson is just an amazing basketball player. But just imagine if he was even a half decent athlete how much potential he would have cuz Anderson isn’t even an average athlete he plays like he’s wearing cement boots. And from what I hear he really wants to stay close to home and Nova’ is no doubt on his list along w/ St. Johns and G’Town. I’m really hoping Goodman can talk him into commiting to ‘Nova where he would complete a monster recruiting class for Jay Wright along with Savon Goodman, Ryan Arch, and possibly Amile Jefferson and Kyle Anderson.

paradigmnParticipantI agree Mr. 19134 about Nova commits and how NICE of a recruiting class that could be with an addition of Kyle Anderson….funny comment about his "slo moe" reputation and cement shoes…lol…..One could only imagine what he would be like with elite athleticisim…but he is what he is….and it seems at the moment he is a near tripple double waiting to happen. On a side note…I really like RYAN ARCHIDIACONO, the #35 player in the country by espn 6’3” 185….kid has a nice swagger about him….interested to see how he develops.

mikeyvthedonParticipantMy prediction came true, BABC took down Oakland (74-60) and YOMCA beat Georgia ( 78-64).
Highlight Performances:
- NERLENS NOEL! The dude posted another triple double, 12 points, 10 boards and 11 blocks! Has had an amazing tournament, incredibly intriguing big man prospect. I could see Kentucky being a favorite for him, I have a feeling Calipari would be dying to have an athlete like Noel as an interior defender.
- George Niang has lead the way in scoring for BABC, he is an undersized PF with a big game. Scored 18 points against the Oakland bigs and has been incredibly solid throughout the tourney. Iowa State looks to have a very nice commit.
- PG Jaylen Brantley has been the other big name for BABC, had 17, 6 and 5 in the win.
- Isaac Hamilton and Aaron Gordon both scored 13 for the Warriors and Brandon Ashley was held to 10. Still, with a lot of 2013’s on Oakland (Hamilton, Gordon, Jabari Bird, the Robinson twins), they might be a favorite for next year.
- Shaq Goodwin had a MAJOR performance against Georgia with 29 and 12. He is a very athletic 4 and has also apparently been a force on defense.
- Jarnell Stokes, another long athletic PF for YOMCA, had 12 points and 17 boards. Stokes has been a killer, looks like an early McD’s All-American favorite, and would not be surprised if Goodwin joined him.
- Jaron Blossomgame had a double double for Georgia with 12 and 11. He is a skinny 6’7 PF, and he is committed to Clemson.
- Marcus Hunt, a 2012 Georgia SF, scored 19 (only 6-20 from the field, 2-10 from 3). He is looking at staying local.
- Alex Poythress and Tony Parker were held to pretty sub par games. Poythress was only 3-10 for 11 points, and just had 4 rebounds. Parker had 8 and 8, but it appears that Shaq Goodwin and Jarnell Stokes definitely won this duel.
Finals is tonight at 7 on ESPNU. Two huge defensive teams, should be a big time battle. Will YOMCA suffer there first loss of the Peach Jam, or will their size over power Noel? Well, I am still thinking BABC will take it down, but it will be a battle.

providencefriars1ParticipantProvidence is recruiting Noel hard… I always see him at the games and he said he was considering there. What a commit he would be to a defensively challenged team.
