Should he have gotten some type of playoff experience against Boston to keep him motivated for the upcoming season since they unleashed him at the tail-end of the regular season?

Too early to tell..6ers were trying to win, they had a good chance to beat the Celtics if they called the right plays down the stretch. Who should he of took mintutes from??

I feel like Brett Brown made a mistake by not playing Fultz. You would have to think that Fultz has a chip on his shoulder after Boston traded down to not take him. Whats the point in playing TJ Mcconnell. You play Fultz as many minutes as Mcconnell I say Fultz does more with his minutes.

I disagree strongly. The guy has less than 20 games in his belt. He could have been eaten alive by being put under the microscope and being completely outshined by Tatum which was more than likely.

He would have been taunted by fans harshly, outplayed by Tatum, and that would have crushed his confidence a lot more than not playing in the playoffs after a couple games experience in the regular season.

As for TJ, did you watch the series? TJ is the reason they won a game, and almost won the last one. TJ outplayed Ben Simmons this series and the only reason TJ didnt get more minutes was to not crush Ben’s confidence. People need to put some respect on TJ’s name he is a very high IQ player and the coaching change to put TJ into the starting lineup almost turned the series, had he done it from game 1 it may have been a different series as TJ does a great job guarding scary Terry.

The point of playing TJ McConnel was not only b/c he deserved the minutes way more than Fultz but he is the player that gave them the best chance of winning.

Fultz started the Miami series getting the backup pg minutes over TJ McConnell, but Fultz was largely ineffective and TJ reclaimed the backup minutes. TJ had a good year and Fultz missed most of the season. Brett Brown gave Fultz the bulk of the backup minutes down the stretch to try to get him acclimated, but Fultz wasn’t ready for playoff basketball.

Hopefully Fultz doesn’t have any setbacks this year and gets the opportunity to show why he was the #1 overall pick.

Fultz didn’t look good in his limited minutes. He took a ton of shots to score minimal points, struggled getting by his man or hitting open shots, would spin dribble into the lane with no plan and cough the ball up, get torched on D…. and his triple double game came against a team playing their 3rd stringers. To be perfectly honest, he didn’t look like a professional basketball player. It’s really pretty simple when you get down to it; if he were able to contribute, he would’ve been on the floor. He wasn’t able to contribute, so he stayed glued to the bench. This isn’t rocket science.

I’m with you up until the point you said "he didn’t look like a professional basketball player." Unfortunately I’ve seen significantly worse from plenty of professional players. He didn’t look like a good pro basketball player. He looked like a brand new rookie who still hadn’t learned that some of the things that worked in college won’t work so well in the NBA.

That’s fair. Was being a bit hyperbolic, but he definitely looked bad. Honestly thought they should’ve sent him to the G-League to work out his kinks, but that probably wouldn’t have been great for his confidence.

If Fultz wasn’t a lottery pick he would’ve gone down to the G-League. I’m sure the Sixers didn’t want Fultz to have the distinction of being  the second first overall pick getting sent down in his rookie year.

The Bucks played their entire starting lineup. Giannis played, Khris played, Jabari played, and Eric Bledsoe played. In fact, the game got away from the Bucks when Fultz came in. It was about a 10 point game and then the lead jumped to about a 25 point game. At least know information before you make such a false statement saying he was going against the likes of Shabazz and Shannon Brown brother.

In the backend of the season, he actually looked good and gave the Sixers a boost. In the playoffs, though he went against Justise Winslow, he couldn’t do nothing agaisnt him. The series against the Hear was just a horrible matchup for him without having a jumper. TJ played better, and they won when he was in during the series against the Heat.

Fultz averaged about 8ppg 4rpg and 4 apg in the backend of the season playing less than 20 minutes a game. He didn’t handle the ball particually well, had a great ast/to ratio and shot a good percentage. I don’t know where you get the "he didn’t look like a pro" from.

Donaven Mitchell had the season that Markelle should have had. Anybody that watched Fultz in college could see he was a Tripple threat on offense. Shoot, Create for himself and Drive. Had decent amount of playmaking ability and was Athletic as he was smooth with the ball.

He was just Injured! Like Embiid and Ben Simmons. I just don’t get how people can doubt him and cast him as a Bust just off a injury unlike the previous players mentioned.

I can’t wait till next season. Fultz is the real deal. A healthy acclimated Fultz could have been the Difference I’m the series vs the Celtics.

You mean the guy who took his pre-season ranked team to a whopping 9 wins in a weak conference while padding his stats? There’s a reason Ainge swindled Philly. Don’t know if he’ll be a bust, but he’ll NEVER live up to #1 pick status, and claiming that he could’ve/should’ve done what Mitchell did is insane.

It’s too early for me to say Fultz will never live up to being a number one overall pick. Its too early in my opinion to say he won’t eventually be considered the best player in the draft. There have been loads of players for one reason or another who took a few years to get their game together. Fultz may end up being a bust, he may end up as a backup, he may end up living up to the hype, or he may be better than anyone ever dreamed. It’s too soon to slam the door shut on a rookie that only played a quarter of the year.

Ben Simmons missed the Tournament entirely his Lone season in college and then made it to the 2nd round in the playoffs???

Fultz went against the grain and Trusted Lorenzo Romar and UW instead of a UK or Duke. Problem is Lorenzo Romar is a Great Recruiter but a Horrible coach. Fultz did his part at UW.  Mike Hopkins took that exact 9 win team In his 1st Season and had a 20+ win season.

Once healthy Fultz will be solid. I’m sticking to that. Dude is still only 19 yos! And being called a Bust lol

Claiming he’ll be solid and claiming he would’ve/could’ve done what Mitchell did are two completely different things. Mitchell came in and IMMEDIATELY became the face of a franchise and averaged over 20ppg on a team he took to the playoffs. Fultz will never be the face of a franchise, and might not ever average 20pg. Let that sink in.

All that is Nice. But you would have had to watched both players in H.S and College to know why the 76ers chose Fultz  #1 and traded up for him.

Go do your Research on Fultz. Check his stats he posted during his freshman year. Pay attention to his shooting splits while getting Doubled team night in night out. With a Rec League coach and check out a couple clips on how he was getting his as a 18 yo.

Fultz will probably surpass Mitchell as a player when he is his age. Let’s Argue.

So your saying Fultz will be playing at a higher level then Mitchell played this year when he is Mitchells age. What your suggesting is that in 2 years Fultz will be better than a player that averaged 24 points 5 rebounds and 4 assists on a playoff team that advances to the second round. Might as well say he will be better than Paul George, Demar Derozan, Gordon Hayward, Bradley Beal and Klay Thompson. I just dont see that happening and even if it does Mitchell will still be improving as well. I like Fultz and believe his potential is great but as a 1st overall pick he is failing. It wasnt a good year at all.

Exactly what I’m saying. Markelle is no question More Athletic, A better play Maker, And a better Shot creator from midrange and more creative around the basket then Donaven.

I give Donaven his props. I think he should win ROY. But it’s Just 1 season that he came out of No where. He’s not gonna win any Championships or MVPs in the west in Salt lake City. It’s gonna be hard for him to even make a All-star game. Salt lake City is not gonna sign any big name free agents. And having Gobert and Rubio will not be enough.  Mitchell will not improve that much in the next couple years. He will stay around the same numbers if not regress

You are out of your mind. Mitchell is stronger, faster, jumps higher, handles contact better, creates for himself and other’s better and is just superior in every possible facet of basketball to Fultz. That was so dumb my eyes actually hurt reading it. Seriously, just wow.

What does their HS or college play have to do with anything? Mitchell played for a winning program dedicated to team success that limited his numbers. Fultz (like I already wrote) took a preseason ranked team to 9 wins and padded his numbers against weak competition. They also both ayer summer league before Fultz’s "injury" and Mitchell still looked like the VASTLY superior player. Maybe you should do some research on Mitchell.

Now Hs and College ball dosent matter. Mitchell played for a team where the coach was Fired due to cheating you Moron!

Nothing from him at Louisville suggested he will be what he turned out to be. Dearron Fox is on record saying Donaven Mitchell was never this good competing with him in Hs. Even Donaven himself thought he was gonna go alot later in the draft then he did. That’s your research on Donaven

Fultz sat out the last 5-6 games of his freshman year with the same injury but nobody knew how serious it was. It didn’t just happen in summer league.

Get your facts together kid and actually watch these players before they have 1 good season in the NBA.

Mitchell did something this year that literally no other player in league history has done. Fultz looked like sh!t. You want to keep writing and making dumb@ss predictions, that’s on you.

Also, I haven’t "hated" on him once. I’ve provided facts while you counter with what-if’s and conjecture, but you’re too dense to understand that. And, they’re not playing HS and/or college kids now. They’re playing professionals. One looked like the steal of the decade, and one looked like a wasted pick. Again, these are facts.

Since we are stating facts. Donaven avg 7 pts his freshman year at louisville. His sophmore year he upped it to 15 pts 4rebs. On poor shooting fg% . Those are facts. Not an ideal candidate worthy of the 1st selection of the NBA.

Markelle Fultz avg 23pts 6reb 6ast on solid Fg% on a Horrible team where he was dealing with double teams night in night out with a Rec League coach with no plays or sets to run for him.

Judging by college production and the eye test it’s not rockect science why Markelle was the 1st pick.

You can tell if someone’s edited their post you fucking moron. If you’re in the Houston area I’ll give you a free workout, ’cause you obviously need all the help you can get.

Good God you’re an idiot. Where did I write that Mitchell should’ve been picked ahead of Fultz? Or that HS and college don’t  matter? Or any other dumb sh!t you keep bringing up? Maybe if you could read above the 1st grade level we could have a discussion. Then again, if you could you wouldn’t think or have written the absolutely retarded sh!t you have.  Go work on your reading comprehension and get back to me when you can keep up.

If he is not at least a super 6th man type then the Sixers messed up.  Not just getting Fultz but trading away the opportunity to get Tatum.

    Could haunt them for YEARS.

Give him some time,  he was "hurt"   most of the season, but remember he is the youngest player in tje history of the NBA to have a Triple Double.  Lets waut and see how he does  with more games under his belt.

I said it a few times but I would have taken Josh Jackson at 1

But due to the fact people are so impatient these days, a consensus won’t say that until he starts producing by his 3rd-4th year.

I remember making a suggestion pre-draft that Philly could take Tatum and use him at the 2 since they were committed to Simmons at the point (just as a consideration, I was team Josh Jackson as the top guy all the way) I got like a -20 or -30 and a bunch of "no way that would work", now after a year where Tatum played very well and Fultz didn’t play much at all, Tatum should’ve been the pick.

The Fultz trade up will be debated for years to come. Philly had their SF set with Covington but you could argue Tatum would be an upgrade or he could have played minutes around Covington and Saric etc. We were also trying to figure out where Simmons would fit in as he was considered a point forward.

But with Simmons playing as PG it meant that Fultz would have to run the 2nd unit or ball off ball. The signing of JJ Reddick wasn’t a major issue as Philly needed experience and shooting which Reddick gave them plus being a Duke guy he was the sort of high character mentor someone like Fultz would benefit from.

But Fultz seemed to be carrying some injury as the season started and then he was shut down, we heard there were shoulder issues and then psychological shooting issues. Whilst Fultz’s game was built around athleticism and his ability to get to the basket, being an off ball player now means that he needs to improve his shooting stroke.

I’m not going to give up on him after one bad year, lots of top guys haven’t even played in their first year and Philly should surely be able to find the right guys to fix his shooting stroke. He also had lots of potential on defence so hopefully he will kick on next season. But a lot will depend on what his desire is like. He did seem like a hard worker off court in his college days who would put in the hours to improve his game and not rely on natural ability alone.

Philly made a mistake by making the trade and losing a pick, not by picking Fultz. Fultz is a talent, the issue is they couldve picked someone else with just as much if not more potential eg. Tatum and still had the other pick
