jaycee24ParticipantWhats up with AB? Is it just clear he’s not going to be a high level contributor for the Wolves? I read a few forum topics for the T Wolves the past couple days and everyone is basically shunning him from Minnesotas core. I watch the highlights and I can’t imagine I’d rather Dieng or Payne(who I really like) on my team for the future. Is it his defense or motor or what? I don’t catch many Minny games so I feel like I’m missing something. The guy is still like 21 if he’s not a part of the T Wolve plan I want him to become a part Detroits.

r377Participant^^^ lebrons hairline – You have changed your tune on Anthony Bennett.
You claim he is ultra and mad talented with an insane skill level – Paul Millsap / Larry Johnson, now you are bagging him by saying he is clueless with shaky hands…..

If he drops 20+ in a pre season game will you be back on the bandwagon ?

Anton123ParticipantHe really changed his body between his freshman and sophmore seasons, which may be an indicator of his willingness to better himself as a player.
He seems to fit well with the current Wolves roster, since he can run the floor and Rubio needs shooters to spread the floor + they are thin at the PF position. This year he’ll have a full summer to work out with the team and improve his game, I think he will certainly be better than last year and I think he can be a productive role player. Not good enough for the 1st pick, but not a complete bust.

220ParticipantIt’s sadly funny Anthony Bennett went first in his draft considering most people thought he was falling down the board. A 6’7" power forward with long arms, mediocre athleticism, and a poor skill set…I still get surprised the Cavs took him first overall. You have to think if they could’ve redrafted they would’ve taken Victor Oladipo or The Greek Freak.

dbeal21ParticipantHe seems like a spectator in an NBA players body. Honestly his basketball IQ is so low he would be considered downs-esque in the NBA if they tested basketball IQs. He has no rhythm offensively. Watched every wolves game and it was painful to watch him touch the ball. If he gets it in the post hes going to try his hardest to do random moves that the defense will hopefully bite on and throw up a bad shot if they dont. He never is smooth and takes what the defense gives him. I feel like he plans out what moves or shots hes going to do the next time he gets the ball. As a Avid Wolves fan, I wouldnt be surprised or even care if we just totally released him, I had decent hopes for him but 1 season was all I needed to see out of him to be convinced he will never be a starter in this league and was a complete bust.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantHe has to be by far the weirdest number one pick of all time. Granted that was a weak draft and there wasn’t really a stand out player who separated himself but I’ve never seen the type of reaction that pick generated before (utter disbelief).
I’m not gonna completely give up on him. He has similar measurements and ability to draymond green, with the huge difference right now being green has a much better feel for the game. He definitely has let the expectations of being the number one pick affect his game, and he clearly tries to force things when he has the ball. Still, he is talented enough to turn things around if he gets in the right situation and lets the game come to him.

Jr. ROXASParticipantI hated that media put so much scrutiny and critiscm with the Cavs team last year that so much pressure and hate was put on this kid. They made a lot of untrue remarks and constantly bashed him on his weight. C’mon, the kid’s 20. And man, I kow people feel great about the guy that he lost so much weight but it WILL be his downside, imo!
Bennet just doesn’t look right now thatc he lost that weight. I think it’s more that he got thinner than leaner and more muscular. I mean, for a 6’7 guy, his calling card was his strength and athletiscm. Even when he was kinda heavy, the guy was a dynamite jumping of off two feet. Now that he lost weight, I don’t see any difference or improvement whatsover. For a guy his undersized, his main asset will be his strength, just like Z-bo. Now that he lost it, and I mean lost it, because he clearly doesn’t look like the player before, how else can he be effective other than hitting the occsional mid-range shot.
Too much was put on this guy’s weight seriously when it should be considered an asset. He transformed his body, gotta give him credit there. but it shouldn’t have been that extreme. Imagine if Z-bo were asked to lose that much weight, how in hell could he be effective now? Media just jumped on this guy’s back since day one, the pressure of being No.1 overall, and it really sapped his confidence.

goddagParticipantHe got into Flip’s dog house for shooting 3 pointers when he was in the game and not playing defense.
Flip knows how to bring the young guys along, so it would be a benefit for Bennet to listen to him. Hopefully KG can help out in this also.0 - Posted on: Mon, 06/15/2015 - 7:37am #989692

DolanCareParticipantThe defensive issues are what really keep Bennett off the floor. As @Numbers_Cruncher pointed out, he lets people blow by him on the perimeter. His feet are actually not that bad, he just seems to not have any sort of instincts on how to guard wing players.
He was also a big kid so he probably never had to chase people around in his early years. It’s strange saying ‘early years’ for someone who hasn’t turned 23 yet, but in you have to multiple by 2 to gauge basketball years.
If AB knows what’s good for him, he needs to watch some tape on Mozgov, early Hibbert and Daraymond Green so he can learn what ‘verticality’ is. If he an become a servicable low-post defender ALA Zach Randolph, then he should be able to see more time.

FrozetoesParticipantThe dude is built like a brick sh*t house and can’t stay healthy for his life.
He shows flashes that make you go "Wow" and then he makes three bad plays and he’s out of the game.
He should be a solid rotation player, possible starter, but where he’s at now he can’t even crack the rotation.
The hope is that because he’s still young, maybe he’ll figure it out.

nill650Participantso far looks like a disaster if anyone still thinks he was worthy of going #1. But in retrospect 17 teams passed on giannis and noone else in the draft class besides a few like adams and oladipo have really done much too impress anyone. So, considering that, and the cavs org being as messed up as it was at the time , nothing surprises me that they thought Bennett could play the 3.
He is capable of being a solid stretch 4 off the bench and maybe if he ever plays defense and actually makes the treys he puts up at a decent clip…he will get starter minutes. I disagree with the notion that he has a low bb iq. But his motor has been in question ever since he entered the league…but in cleveland it was asthma and surgery recovery.

nill650Participantoops 2 less teams than i thought passed on an unlnown upside player who never played against anybody…yeah yeah the mountain west is overated i hear you but when adams and giannis are two of the top 3 players in the 2013 draft thus far it makes you wonder what any of the gm’s who passed on them were concerned about.
Bennett looks like a bust at #1, but so does most of that lottery mess taken after him as well.
too me he is not a bust as it pertains to his skill level…he was just taken too high, if that means he is worthless, i disagree entirely.

mgreener_34ParticipantI think Bennett is a second contract player, and by his 4th or 5th year he will be a servicable rotation player, hopefully on a good team. He’s actually very effective in the post, shooting nearly 70% from 0-3 feet from the basket. I think he just needs to work on his body and get playing time. His injuries have hurt him in this regard because he’s never had a consistent chance to play through mistakes, even in CLE.
I don’t see any reason why he couldn’t turn into a NeNe type of player, putting up 12/7 and giving good energy

slash787ParticipantThat Cavs were literally the only people in the world that would have taken Bennett #1 overall. Quite literally the only people in the world that would do that. Bill Simmons summed it up best as soon as the pick happened. One of my favorite draft moments of all time.

ExumInfernoParticipantA short power forward with little offense, little defense and little passing ability.
That leaves rebounding, he needs to concentrate on that.
He might be the worst player drafted at #1 in the past 60 years. If that doesn’t motivate him to add to his game in the offseason, maybe he will be out of the league after another season.
One idea would be to just watch and copy Tristan Thompson. If Bennett does that, and rebounds like that, he will turn his career around.

SnowtaParticipantHe is one of the most confusing players I’ve watched. If I had to pick two reasons why he had such a poor year this year it would be his motor and BB IQ. He didn’t get much time early playing behind Thad and when he would get into the game he wouldn’t be engaged. Very frustrating to watch as a fan. I don’t think I saw him get a 50-50 ball all year. Also, I just think he didn’t know what to do as a PF in Flip’s offense. He’d float around on offense and as soon as he’d get the ball he’d feel like he had to shoot no matter where he was on the floor. I think the fact he never got comfortable in his role lead to him thinking to much and not just going out and playing hard. I want to see him get more opportunities this year to see if something clicks because I did see flashes last year.
