How is this being smart?? How is this even remotely being “Smart?” He’s already sacrificing a lot of money not being a top-3 pick thanks to a much more competitive 2014 draft class and he’s also risking injury before signing a professional contract.
I don’t think he’d be a lock I don’t think he’d be a lock for a really high pick this year. Yeah, he’d go lottery. But top 5? Personally, I don’t see it. Especially after the season he had. He really struggled with ast/to ratio, and really struggles shooting the ball. Combine that with his lack of athleticism, I don’t see the top 5 guarantee others see this year.
Maybe going back to school another year helps him develop those PG skills, and allows him to work on his jumper. Obviously Wiggins and Parker will be the top 2 picks next year, with Randle a likely third. If Smart can develop his game more, I can see him falling in that 4-6 overall range next year. Don’t see the problem with him returning.
Marcus Smart Him, McLemore, and Noel are the 3 elite prospects. In my opinion, he should have gone. I think another year will really expose his athleticism (or lack thereof) and his inconsistent jumpshot. Not to mention being in a tougher draft class. Also, as previously mentioned, he’s also risking injury. But, we won’t actually know if this was a smart decision or not until around this time next year.
