I don’t keep up with basketball news, let alone prep ball, as much as I would like but I just recently have caught wind of this kid and his highlights on YT.  This guy is the most unreal physical force I’ve ever seen.  I don’t know how tall he is or what position he plays, but he does things that he shouldn’t be able to do at his size and build.  He looks like Oliver Miller with a 50 inch vertical.  Without the ball he looks like he is lumbering up the court but once the ball is in his hands he turns into Lebron James on the fast break.  He already has some of the best in-game dunks I’ve every seen in my life.  Anyone else just blown away by this guy !?!!

I always take how great guys in the vein of Zion look in high school with a grain of salt. Guys who are that physically developed at such a young age always look freakish in comparison to your average skinny 16 year old. Once they get older and their peers have developed into their bodies as well its easier to get a good look at whether or not a guys prospects are legit.

That being said, Zion is a monster for a kid his age. As with a lot of guys cut feom that mold his shot needs a bit of work but he has more than enough time to improve that. Interesting to see how his play translates into college over the next few years and whether he develops his skills to match his incredible athleticism.

I’m intrigued to learn what his work ethic and his mentality is like. That is what nearly always determines whether a guy turns into a monster or plateaus at a certain point when they are this physically gifted from such a young age. Definitely a prospect to watch.

Check out the post called Zion Williamson the next seventh woods.

Zion is a truck, not only is he athletic, he’s also a physical specimen. He can shoulder-off just about any defender in HS, kids just bounce off him. He will remain a problem in college as he will be either bigger or faster than 90% of defenders.

He plays so hard and is so determined to take it to the cup in combination with his athletic gift is really a tough mismatch and a joy to watch. Zion deserves nothing but praise as he constantly lives up to the hype and has the crowd of games going insane from begginging to end.

However, he’s just playing bully ball out there. He’ll end up 6’7-6’8 by the time he’s in the NBA. Right now he’s classified as a PF, because albeit most of his points coming from the perimeter, via fast break, he mostly resembles a bigman. As a bigman, Zion lacks  many of the qualities that NBA teams look for; shooting, setting picks, protecting the paint, and post game… leaving Zion as run and jump athlete who  can blow by bigs on the highpost. A possible transition to SF? His jumper is not there, and his handles are shaky.

Zion has to develop a jumpshot to succeed. A guy like Giannis who was abusing defenders with his athletism in HS, displayed ball handling like that of a PG,  Ben simmons had handles and vision like a PG. Giannis and Ben will/do thrive as main ball handlers, Zion cannot be a main ball handler on an NBA team.

He is still young and seems like a hard worker so potential is there. But as is, he’s like a more athletic Julius Randle, with better handles and even worst jumpshot.

A good comparison actually hes very LJ-esque but even more explosive. I likened him to a bigger and More athletic Miles Bridges

He definately has flaws in his game but hes also really young for his class. He will still be 17 when he graduates hs. He was co mvp at the  nbpa top 100 camp, dominated at the Addidas nations so he has proven himself against the best of his peers. I mention that because the hs games are clearly not very challenging for him. Although he will need a post game his quick feet and dexterity when driving suggest he shouldnt have too much trouble developing 1 or go to post moves with counters.

Oliver Miller wasnt a good NBA player, this kid has a chance to be special. His upside is higher than Julius Randle cmon, watch highlights other than his dunks he can shoot. Number 2 on spartanburg is also very talented.

Dominique Wilkins? He seems like an above average ball handler and understands how to break someone down off the dribble. He can finish with either hand, and seems to have an above average bball IQ in general, reading defenses, finding cutters, beating presses with a pass or dribble, anticipating shot location. He’s finishing close to the basket is very good, as he has excellent body control and a soft touch around the rim. Lastly hes more athletic than 80 percent of the nba right now, and pretty easily. Of course, the grown men in the league wouldnt let a teenager dunk on them as easily as a regular high school athlete. But hes athletic enough that when he gains some of the strength gained with maturity, he can contend at a high level in the league.

I loved the energy he showed in the State Championship game and how he used his ball handling and first step to get most of his points. He was agressive and dominated. I think hes got a great motor, and should be an all star at some point. Even if an overrated one. He needs to tighten and improve every facet of his game, but the tools are there for him to be a superstar.
