It’s clear to me that Coach Romar has systematically failed to build a viable program. Even with a top pick the huskies are getting out classed in every aspect of the game.

Fire Romar!!!! There is absolutely no reason the zags should be better than udub at least not this much better.

Romar is running an AAU Program up at Washington, He gave Porters dad a gig obviously to land his son.. Hes just rolling the ball out on the court and letting his teams run, Fultz is getting absolutely man handled by the stronger Zag guards. I was waiting for a game like this where Fultz gets punched in the mouth to see how he responds, hes just out there chuckin.

Gonzaga is really good this year. This may be few’s deepest and most balanced lineup yet and that’s saying something.

Washington is pretty bad but let’s not overreact – I know that goes against pretty much every fiber of the internet being – to Fultz playing a bad game against a National Title contending Gonzaga squad.

He’s 19 years old. He’s going to have stinkers, especially in a game like this where he’s up against upperclassmen like Perkins and Williams-Goss. The Zags are loaded.

Two years ago, I said Few had his best Gonzaga team when Pangos and Bell were seniors, Wesley grad transfered in and Wiltjer was in his first year off the redshit. That team got to the Elite 8 and lost to Duke.

This Gonzaga team is superior to that one on paper if we’re measuring by pure collection of talent. It’s not close.

I’m not going to overreact to this game since it’s still relatively early in the season. I had Gonzaga winning this game quite easily actually. You have to credit Mark Few for his contribution in the growth of Gonzaga’s program. IMO they have some of the best player development in the NCAA. The Zags seem to always get the most out of their players. Granted it’s the WCC but the program has stayed consistent for over a decade.

That being said I really wanted to shed light on Washington’s coach. IMO Lorenzo Romar has overstayed his welcome at UDub for about 3 years now. I think he’s terribly overrated and the program needs a change. I believe they won’t fire him after this year because UDub has Michael Porter Jr coming. But if history is an indicator of anything, the signs point to unachieving in the Pac 12 once again. There needs to be some drastic changes if Washington wants to keep up with the improving Pac 12 conference.

Fultz had 1 asst the entire game. The team had 7 asst the entire game, hes not a point guard.. more assists game from his forwards than Fultz himself.. But he was still chuckin up shots to make sure he got his.. Hes padding his stats at the expense of his team. I dont agree with his approach to the game..

Who cares that Gonzaga is in the WCC?  Their program transcends conference.

I was just trying to say the wcc is a relatively weak conference. All I was trying to illustrate is Gonzaga consistently exceeds expectations and is a powerhouse program, given the cards dealt to them while being in a not so popular conference like the wcc. Im not trying to down play gonzaga in any way. Sorry for the confusion.

@Robb – by chance did you take a second to see what Fultz’ teammates shot from the field?

    14 for 51

Tough to get assists when your team shoots 28 percent from the floor.

Now sure we can complain about only one assist on 14 other made field goals and maybe he’s not a Chris Paul type of pure point guard. But again, he’s 19. He’s not a fully developed PG. He’s not getting great coaching. He’s not surrounded by high-end players. Might not ultimately be a great point guard…but if there’s something to dislike about this Washington team, you have to go a ways down the list to find Fultz.

Exactly, his teammates went 14-51 and his teammates had 6 assists.. His Team had 0 assist at the Half!! So Its quite evident the team was more productive to a degree when the ball wasn’t clogged in Fultz hand. You can frame it however youd like the numbers dont lie.

Not saying these are their comparisons but to me Ball is like Curry where as Fultz is like a younger Westbrook in a mentality sense. Skills aside Ball plays a brand of basketball that really unites his teammates and makes everyone around him better. Not to say what Fultz is doing is not amazing because it is but it just seems like he is in a "get his first" mindset that leaves his teammates uninspired in other parts of the game like defending, rebounding, setting screens, and being all around unselfish while sacraficing for the team first. To me if you replace Curry with Westbrook in the beginning of the GSW emergence the Warriors dynasty would never have begun and if you replaced Westbrook with Curry Durant would still be in OKC. Westbrook is still my favourite player but Ill take the guy who’s team wins any day. Ball seems to have that same aura about him, every possession, shot and pass seems to be very confident and fun and his teammates feed of that. Not to mention he is 6’6 athletic great at pretty much everything and very smart. I’ll take Ball 1st overall.

Sure yeah Ball’s been amazing. Would you take Fultz in the top 5 though?

I get the vibe here like people are all of a sudden really down on Fultz after his team got whooped by a title-contending Gonzaga team.

Is he a pure point guard like Ball or a NBA guy like Paul? No it wouldn’t appear so.

But to blame his one assist night on him is silly when his teammates shoot 28 percent from the floor. He’s not surrounded by great players…nor does he have a great coach.

He might not be the most natural facilitator but from everything I’ve read, the kid isn’t a selfish type of player. He’s low-key, but he’s been billed as a good defender and an unselfish offensive player.

@Robb C…how many of the 6 assists by his teammates were to him? He made 10 shots. Seriously man did you watch the game and see how bad the whole team played or are you just hitting up the mothership and checking out the box score?

I watched the first half, and yes I did see how bad his team played..  0 assist in the first half as a pg is inexcusable..All Fultz has to do to create more efficiency from his teammates is slow the pace down, His Teammates arent bad its just the offense is being played at a pace thats not comfortable for the rest of the team..

Biggy I’m still head over heels for Fultz he’s amazing. I think Ball, Smith and Fultz are all the same tier at the Gaurd position to executives it just depends what your looking for. Fox is up there as well but seems to be a bit behind. Josh Jackson is in the same tier and for a team that doesnt need a PG he probally passes them. If I’m Dallas and I’m rebuilding I would go for Ball or Smith (personally I would pick Ball) but for a team like Philly more of an aggressive scorer like Fultz maybe a better fit. One things for sure this is a very impressive draft and these guys still have tons to prove. Markannen is also outstanding. Giles hasn’t even returned yet and Tatum looked like a less athletic PG against Florida and displayed great basketball IQ figuring out how to effect the games so many ways as the game went along. This is an outstanding draft.

Fair enough Robb…you are right in that zero assists is bad. But I’m not going to savage him when the entire team collectively crapped the bed against an elite Gonzaga team.

Your point about slowing the pace down is an interesting one. I tend to think they should do that as well, but I doubt Lorenzo Romar is leaving the whole pace thing up to his 19 year old starting Point Guard. My guess is that he wants them to play fast because in theory, that’s the only way they can play. They get into halfcourt stuff and its Fultz and friends.

Speeding up the tempo might be the only way they get good offensive looks…but against good teams like Gonzaga, it fails miserably.

agree with Canada that this draft seems really good. 3 really good PGs plus a handful of stud wings and interesting bigs. There isn’t a big Center prospect and I’m not sure I’ll buy in on Giles yet given he’s got so many knee issues but yeah if the Wolves are going to suck for another year, I guess I’m okay with it being this year because a top-5 pick plus Wiggins/Towns/Lavine is exciting.
