I saw on ESPN Insider that the Grizzlies might ship Zach Randolph to Detroit because they won’t be able to resign him.  Is there any truth to this, or is it some hypothetical crap that ESPN is making up to keep up their Insider scam?

As a Pistons fan, I don’t know how I feel about this.  They already have Villanueva, Daye, and Monroe getting minutes at the 4 spot.  I wouldn’t mind this if it involved Villanueva, but what do you think this trade would involve if it went through?  Who would Memphis be interested in?

SI’s Chris Mannix has a note in the magazine about Zach Randolph‘s future in Memphis and a possible move to Detroit.

 

Mannix writes: "His six-year, $84 million contract expires after this season, and a league source says he’s not happy that the Grizzlies didn’t offer him an extension. … If the Grizzlies are looking to deal, multiple sources say Randolph’s preferred destination is Detroit, where he would fill the gaping hole in the Pistons’ frontcourt."

Raymond Brothers, Randolph’s agent, disputes that his client is not happy with the team.

"There’s no truth to that rumor," Brothers tells The Commercial-Appeal. "All Zach needs is a basketball and a court to play on to be happy. Zach’s happy. That’s nonsense."

According to the newspaper, the Grizzlies would like to sign him to an extension for about $40 million over three years. Last season Randolph said he wanted an extension that was in the neighborhood of the three-year, $64.7 million deal Pau Gasol signed with the Lakers.

The Grizzlies signed Rudy Gay to an $82 million deal in the summer and recently extended Mike Conley for $40 million. Marc Gasol is restricted free agent next summer and will be asking for a big contract, too. They will also be hearing from O.J. Mayo, who’ll be eligible for an extension in July.

Zach Randolph in my eyes is one of the biggest overachievers in the NBA.  The guy has no lift and never looks like he’s in great shape, yet he is able to produce fairly consistently with a reliable shot and unorthodox jump hooks.  He’s WAY better than I ever thought he’d be coming out of Michigan State.
