1.) You are the Chicago Bulls. You miss the playoffs and things are looking bad for your team. (Chicago is currently not in the playoffs btw) Draft lottery rolls around, and what a surprise! You guys move up and nab the #3 pick. Wiggins and Parker are off the board. Who do you take a chance on? Do you take Randle and have a logjam with Mirotic and Gibson? Do you take Exum or Smart just incase Rose goes down again and make your star player feel like your rebuilding? Do you take the "big potential" guy in Embiid? Or do you trade this pick and other assets for a star player, say Kevin Love? Or how about another guy? If you trade this pick for another player, make up a trade in which you think it will spark some interest from the GM. (In this scenario, Charlotte has made the playoffs and has the #16 pick, – You guys have their pick as well.)

2.) You’re Utah. Mormon baller Jabari Parker is off the board for the first pick, then Wiggins, then Embiid, then Exum. Your pick currently sits at No. 5. Kanter hasn’t been playing well all season. Do you take Randle and hope he can co-exist with Favors? Do you take Smart and have him share the backcourt with Trey Burke? Do you trade down? Or do you take a guy like Aaron Gordon?

3.) You’re the Spurs, and your pick figures to be in the 25-30 range. Top 5 guys on your big board?

4.) You’re the Bucks. You guys get the #1 pick. Who do you take? Do you take a SF, even with the Greek Freak playing the same position? Do you roll the dice with Embiid?

5.) You’re Sacramento. You win the #1 pick. Who do you take? By the way, in this scenario, non-all star Rudy Gay figures to be opting in on his crazy contract.

6.) You’re the Lakers, you guys miss the playoffs and with the 3rd worst record in the west. Thinking top 7 draft pick? Nope. The East is just that bad. You guys are stuck at #10. Whats your big board?

7.) Your the Kings. Draft night rolls around and you guys end up picking Julius Randle at #6 (BPA), but not a good fit next to Cousins. Phoenix offers you Dragic and Washington’s 2014 1st. Do you take it?

     1. My first option is to get Love in a trade and I’m willing to give up a lot to make that happen. Assuming I keep the pick, I take Exum. The Bulls as an organization do not overspend on FA (Thanks for that Eddie Robinson!) So the only way we get a stud SG next to Rose is draft.

    2. None of the above, I take LaVine and pair him with Hayward on the wing. You waited and nurtured the Favors/Kanter frontcourt for 3 years. They deserve more than a 1 season trial run before you draft over them! The 2nd and less favorable choice would be draft BPA in Randle and then try to trade him (not favorable because it involves needing another team)

    3. Spurs Big Board (In Order from left to right): Payne, Anderson, McGarry, Stauskas, Jefferson.

    4. I take Wiggins and start the "Wiggins as a 2" project immediately next to the Greek Freak at the 3 and Illyasova at the 4.

    5. I can’t believe I am saying this… but I take Embiid. He is a defensive force to pair up with DMC’s offensive abilities. I think McLemore can do what Wiggins does (on a smaller sclae of course!). This is one team that does NOT need more offensive firepower. Then need less scorers.

    6. Lakers Big Board(In Order from left to right): James Young, Vonleh, GRIII, Dougie Fresh, Tyler Ennis.

    7. Only if they take Marcus Thornton off my hands…

Great post. Keep on doing these "you’re the’s."

    1. Their first option would be to use their #3 pick plus the Bobcats’ pick to move up to one of the first 2 picks and get Jabari or Wiggins. I think their second option would be looking for a trade. Their biggest needs are wing depth and a backup center. With Jabari and Wiggins gone, their pick would probably be Embiid, but do they want to use the pick on a backup? They’re not rebuilding, and Noah is locked in for a while. How about Aaron Afflalo and the Magic’s second 1st rounder for the Bulls’ #3 pick. The Magic would have 2 of the top 5 or 6 picks to build around, and Afflalo would be a great fit in Chicago, where his shooting is desperately needed. If the Magic are giving up too much here, seeing as Afflalo is having a career year, then the Bulls can throw in Teague, Snell, or a pick. The Bulls would also have that second first rounder to add even more depth for a cheap cost. Assuming they amnesty Boozer and bring over Mirotic, they still will have some cap room to add even more than that.

    2. Take Randle. He’s the best player on the board, and I think he can fit nicely with Favors. Randle brings the offense, Favors the defense, and they both get boards. Their biggest need is on the wing, so if they want to go that route, then they should trade down a few spots, pick up an extra asset or two, and take Hezonja. I think he’s the most underrated prospect right now. Easily a top 10 talent. To be honest, I don’t think 5 will be considered a huge reach for him come draft day. The only problem is that there are better players still on the board. If they can get him a few picks later, that’s great.

    3. The Spurs are always going to get efficient guys that fit within the system. In their range, guys that jump out at me that fit that description are Sam Dekker, Jordan Adams, and Jusuf Nurkic from Bosnia. For those that don’t know Nurkic, he’s a 19 year old 7-footer that leads the Adriatic league in PER and win shares. He has a great post game for someone his age. The most perfect fit in my opinion is Kyle Anderson. I played against him in high school, so I may be a little biased, but with the right team I see no reason why he can’t flourish in the NBA. Despite his lack of athleticism he can get to wherever he wants on the court with the ball in his hands. He might be the best passer in the country. He is a great rebounder and has improved his shot. I like the Boris Diaw comparisons, and with Diaw hitting free agency this summer, Anderson can step right in. So, the top 5 in this range for the Spurs would be: 1. Anderson 2. Nurkic 3. Dekker 4. Adams 5. Micic

    4. This is a really interesting scenario because Giannis has showed that he can end up being a star. I think if the draft were redone he’d easily be a top 5 pick, probably even top 3 or 4. To me Jabari is a no-brainer for the first pick. He can score in any way possible, he rebounds, passes, and has long arms and underrated athleticism. But it might not be the smartest idea to draft him when they have Giannis. The Bucks actually have a lot of good, young talent in their frontcourt, namely Giannis, Henson, Sanders, and Ilyasova; even Khris Middleton is proving that he has a bright future in the league. Their biggest need is a PG who can run the show and get these guys in position to score. Exum is their guy. I think their best move if they get the first pick is to trade down 2 or 3 spots (even moving down by that much gets them a whole lot in return) and take Exum. If not Exum, then Smart.

    5. You gotta take Jabari. One extra year of Gay is no reason not to take the best player in the draft (if your personal preference is Wiggins, then take him, but I’d definitely take one of those two because they have pieces at all other positions, and in my opinion they’re the top 2 guys in the draft). The Kings said when they first got Gay that they wanted to try him as a stretch 4. With Jabari in the lineup they can do that.

    6. The Lakers only have 3 guys with guaranteed contracts next year, and 2 of those 3 are Nash and Robert Sacre. Just take the best player available. At #10 that guy might be Hezonja, Gordon, Vonleh, Harris, LaVine, Saric, or anyone else who’s around when it’s their turn to pick.

    7. Don’t take it. Randle is going to be a star in the NBA, and I think Thomas is proving he’s their long-term PG. You can get more than that for Randle. Look to the free agent market to get that defensive-minded backup big.

Props to you for these always challenging posts.

    1) I’m rolling the dice on Embiid, I think he has the biggest ceiling in this draft and that’s worthy of a number 3 pick. If Thibs teaches him D, nobody is going to score in Chicago’s paint for the next 10 years. Like, seriously they could bring defense to another level. If Rose is healthy they’re in a position to be a contender again immediately (and imho, it’s not time to give up on Rose, not yet). Also, if Embiid proves himself a reliable rim protector they can afford trading away Noah for an upgrade on the wing (but I have a feeling they can coexist and make a scary defensive frontcourt; in that case they have Boozer’s expiring deal that might be interesting for many teams). I know, there are a couple of big ifs, but their biggest need is on the perimeter, especially on offense. If the two elite wing prospects are off the board they just can’t pass on Embiid’s potential, especially considering they could still fill their need trading away one of their bigs.
    2) This the toughest one, I guess. Trey Burke is proving himself a legit Nba point guard, so I hardly think they’re drafting Smart, though he can play off the ball too. Randle might not be the best fit with Favors, but he’s too good to pass on him. I’d probably draft him and trade Kanter, especially if the latter still has some trade value and they can get a good wing or some decent assets for him. I don’t see much future for Kanter-Favors duo and if you have the chance to get Randle, who might end up being better than both of them, you can’t miss it.
    3) My top 5 big board would be: Saric, Payne, McGary, McDermott, CJ Wilcox, but I hardly think more than one of the first four names last that long on the board. Also, the Spurs usually like to draft international guy and let them develop for on or two years in Europe, so I expect their actual big board to have at least 2 international guy who’s not likely to come and play immediately for them (Micic, Hezonja, Larsen, Bogdanovic), though they have 5 expiring guys this year, 3 of them being rotation players and that might change things a little bit.
    4) I think the Bucks are certainly drafting one between Parker and Wiggins with the first pick and they’re one of the teams that might be more inclined towards Parker for many reasons. They gave big money to Sanders and while there might be doubts concerning his maturity, he’s proved himself a valuable rim protector. Henson is looking promising. Their biggest need is probably at the point, but none of the best prospects at that position is good enough for the first pick. They have a very nice core of young guys, they need a guy with superstar potential and scoring ability. I like Giannis a lot, but I’m not sure yet he’s that kind of guy. Also he’s so versatile he’s going to be able to play with either Wiggins or Parker. They could still get a competent point man trading one of their many assests (and there are many competent point guards around the league, you can get one for a relatively cheap price). Most of all there have been many rumors the franchise is leaving Milwaukee and the community there seems to have lost interest in the team. They might need an immediate impact player to win their fans back and Parkers seems the most likely.
    5) Sacramento is a mess. They’re likely to change something in their roster again before the trade deadline, so it’s hard to make any realistic hypotesis on their draft strategies. They might trade for Dragic, and that would change things a lot. I’m doing this based on their current roster, but it might totally different one week from now. Someone suggested to draft Embiid and pair him with Cousins to make up for DMC’s lack of something even reminiscent of defense. But they’re two big men playing only in the paint, unless they want to develop Embiid as a shooting center (and that would be such a waste). If they kills their spacings and clog the line they’re going to lose on offense everything they earn on d. That’s why giving all that money to Cousins was a bad idea, it’s hard to find a decent rim protector able to play with him without destroying offensive fluidity. Not many good interior defenders can play outside the paint. Embiid has some potential, because his shooting form is good and he shows good touch. But it’s gonna take a while. I’d just go with the best available player (preferably Wiggins: I like Parker so much and they screwed up so many players in the past. Please stay away from Jabari!), have another transition season and wait for Gay’s deal to expire while getting another lottery pick. Or they could move away Gay in the last year of his deal for a good defensive interior presence (not much around, but what if the Bulls wanna shop Noah for cap space?), even if that would mean giving up a lot of flexibility (considering they also have to pay Thomas if they want to keep him there). It’s true, drafting another wing would mean taking minutes from McLemore and it’s too early to give up on him. But honestly I think both Wiggins and Parker are going to be a lot better and it would be silly to pass on them.
    6) They have to go with the best player available. Exum, LaVine, Gordon, Hood, Saric, Vonleh, Payne, Young, Grant, Harris. I’m listing Exum and LaVine because I expect at least one of the 6-7 prospects to slip and then they would be no brainer.
    7) Tough one. They don’t really need Dragic, especially if they sign Thomas. But I don’t like the Randle-DMC duo. And I don’t think that’s a fair deal. They might want to trade that pick, but I hardly doubt that’s the best trade for them. I’m saying no.

     1. I would attempt to trade for Love, but otherwise I would draft Marcus Smart to get a secondary ball handler for the Bulls who fits perfectly with the team’s style of play.  Smart isn’t the BPA, Embiid is, but Embiid is less ready to help the Bulls since they already have a great center in Noah.  Trading for Love would help them the most.

    2. I take Marcus Smart.  His best position is SG in my opinion and both he and Burke can play off-the-ball.  I don’t think Randle is the greatest fit next to Favors and Kanter and I’m not yet sold on Zach LaVine.

    3. Hard to predict who would be in that range come draft time, but I would say 1. Jordan Adams, who is a classic Spurs-style SG, 2. Dario Saric, 3. Kyle Anderson, 4. Mitch McGary, 5. Brandon Ashley.

    4.  This is really tough.  I think the Bucks should attempt to trade Larry Sanders for a pg, which is their weakest position.  Wiggins could be drafted to play SG alongside Giannis, who defends forwards much better than he defends guards, but they could also go with Embiid, who could work the right block while Henson works the left block, although they may struggle with floor spacing.  I think I would go with Embiid, as the Bucks already have a potential future star at sf in Giannis, but I could be persuaded either way.

    5. I would take Andrew Wiggins and just use Rudy Gay as a sixth man off the bench.  Since Gay can play a little 4, him, Wiggins, and McLemore can all play big minutes.  Embiid would be intriguing next to Cousins, but I don’t think he would be ready early in his career to transition to playing pf and compensating for Cousins lack of defensive ability.

    6. I would say 1. Noah Vonleh, 2. Rodney Hood, 3. Gary Harris, 4. Tyler Ennis , 5. Doug McDermott

    7. That deal is really tempting, as Dragic would help the team more than Randle and would be a great sixth man behind Thomas and McLemore.  I would try to get more, but in the end I would do that deal because playing Randle next to Cousins is just setting him up for failure, as both players possess the same strengths and weaknesses.  Both players play hard with the ball and going for boards, but neither runs in transition, sets good off-ball screens, moves well without the ball, protects the rim, or defends the pick-and-roll effectively.  The only way I don’t accept that deal is if I can get a better one.

Why do fans of other teams always assume that Kevin Love is a realistic target for a trade? As a Wolves fan I don’t see any reason for him to be leaving anytime soon, if they were to trade him the offer would have to be for way more than he’s worth which would just be silly…

At some point, you would think enough is going to be enough for Love. Especially if Minnesota doesn’t make the playoffs…. again.

    1. If you can get Kevin Love for the 3rd pick go right ahead but assuming that isn’t an option I would take Embiid and look to move Noah if you can get a SG that can stretch the defense. Embiid has shown mega potential and if he is even available at 3 he seems to be a lock for the top 3. A trade would be possible for the Bulls I just don’t think they will get Kevin Love.

    2. If I am picking 5th with those guys off the board I would go to Zach LaVine at 5th overall assuming he is in the draft. He has the biggest upside of the players remaining in my mind and could play on and off the ball with Trey Burke. He has good size and greath athleticism which are things that Burke lacks and Utah should be okay up front with Favors and Kanter.

    3. Adrian Payne would be a good fit in San Antonio with his midrange shot to go with his defense and rebounding. Others that fit in with the Spurs in that spot are Semaj Christon, Markel Brown, Kyle Anderson, and Dwight Powell.

    4. I still take Wiggins at #1 if I am most teams. I can see why somebody would take Parker or even Embiid at this point but I am a believer in the potential Wiggins has. He isn’t as sure a thing as Parker at this point but his ceiling is still higher in my mind. I would struggle more deciding between Wiggins and Embiid than I would Parker honestly and that is only because the huge potential those two have. Parker will likely be an All-Star but I would take a chance that one if not both the Kansas two will be better. Wiggins can play shooting guard and we know he will have to work on his stroke but he will be good defensively from day one.

    5. I still take Wiggins and look to move Gay. This kind of situation makes me look a lot harder at Embiid but still think Wiggins is the best pick at 1.

    6. Rodney Hood seems like he would do well in the Lakers system. Other guys around 10 they should like are James Young, Jordan Clarkson, Doug McDermott, and Aaron Gordon.

    7. This is a trick question. If I am picking 6th in this draft Randle isn’t the best player available at that point. I am getting either Wiggins, Parker, Embiid, Smart, Exum or LaVine. You don’t need to take the trade for Dragic because Thomas and LaVine would be a fine backcourt moving forward.
