TiosecoParticipantWhich young player (either 4 years or less in the league or 24 and below) do you think may have already plateaued in terms of skill development? By this, I mean, you think that he has already had the best or one of the best seasons he’s ever going to have in his career and that his succeeding seasons are just going to produce similar numbers. This isn’t necessarily a knock on those players. These players may still improve on some aspects of their games but none of these will be very drastic or may take away another aspect (like, if a player suddenly learns how to shoot 3’s he may end up driving less and thus have fewer free throw attempts or a lower fg%)
I think that Derrick Rose may have had one of his best seasons already (well, duh! he was MVP!) and that he will only continue to produce similar numbers the rest of the way (if healthy). A lot of my friends thought that he will still improve significantly and have an even more beastly season this season (or in the future). He may have a season here and there that can be arguead with his first MVP season but, I don’t think any of those will be clearly and unanimously better.

TiosecoParticipantI hope readers don’t get my point wrong here. Derrick Rose putting up similar numbers for several more years is no way a bad thing! It’s certainly better than this season. I just don’t think he’ll put up a season which is clearly better than his first MVP season in terms of showing of his skills. He may win more MVP’s and awards but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m only talking about skill development. Like, Melo probably plateaued in terms of skill development in his 3rd or 4th year yet, he may win more awards and have more season regarded as better than the best of his first 4 years due to these accomplishments but he still basically has had the same skills all along

raybeasParticipantNot sure where either player has more to prove. Add Durant to the list. Kevin Love? What’s he going to improve in his game? Defense is the answer to all those questions, but are they really that type of player?
A player like Blake Griffin, you can see where he can improve…post moves, free throws, defense. Paul George can develop his post game and ball handling. John Wall can improve his shot selection.
Most young players need to improve their shot selection, ball handling, situational awareness and defense. Aside from defense, the four I listed first dont have much further they can go.

TiosecoParticipant@raybeas, Yeah you are right. it’s pretty much almost all those young stars. I just posted because, all these fans of these players keep thinking something like, "Wow, player x is so good now and he’s only 22! Imagine what he can do next year" when in fact, if you look closely, there really is not much to improve on anymore or don’t seem to be the type of player to improve on certain weakneses (like Rondo). But then there are those players who, despite already putting up good-great numbers, obviously have areas to significantly improve on. (John Wall now, Derrick Rose in his 3rd season, etc)

Anton123ParticipantDurant still has to improve on taking care of the ball (too many turnovers) and i believe he can become a better passer (he showed flashes of good passing potential this season)
Westbrook has to improve on his decision making (still often shoots when he should pass), which, i hope, will come with maturity.
Kevin Love can improve his post-game
I think no player is perfect and everyone can improve, LeBron has been improving certain parts of his game absolutely every year, so has Kobe, why can’t these guys?

TiosecoParticipant@Anton you completely missed my point. You gave examples of those who I wasn’t asking about. Players like Kobe and Lebron are the opposite of what I’m asking. I’m not saying players stop developing at a certain time. I’m just asking for you to give me young players whom you feel may not improve significantly anymore. Yes, no player is perfect but not because a player has flaws/holes in his game means that he’ll eventually improve on them. Some examples may be O.J Mayo or Michael Beasley.

omphalosParticipantI think Durant still has higher levels to reach, he’s still too inconsistent with his 3-point shooting, and if he can improve his post-up game, he could post better efficiency and probably in the area of 35ppg. Also, he can become an absolute beast defensively over time, his length is amazing and he already has great timing on blocks.
