Rondo would have no problem being a efficient facilitator in OKC and Westbrook could go try to prove he’s Derrick Rose in Boston lol….

Celtics are in a lose lose situation. Their core is just too old, when your talking about MIA and CHI. OKC will be fine either if they keep Westbrook or they get Rondo.

C’s core (KG, Allen, Pierce) are at that point where they can’t get over the athleticism of a MIA, and since Chicago has home court I can’t see the C’s beating them in Chi town.  Rondo and Westbrook are very very similar, but I believe a pass first PG is what you need around Bos 3 HOF’ers. Rondo keeps them fed and the chemistry that took years to build won’t get any better by swapping for Westbrook. Ainge is in a sticky situation because if you break up the big 3 people will say they all shoulda retired C’s but if  you let them die out on your club then you pay the price of a long rebuilding road. Sucks 2 be Ainge

nice post. but would you do the trade? like you said i don’t think they can get past mia or chi, so i would do it. plus rivers would do a great job of keeping westbrook in check. okc, brings a champ to their team that is still young to compete for the future

Yes i’d make the trade no questions asked.

If’ i’m Boston idk, but certainly not for Westbrook. If they are giving up on the Big 3 which they should, Rondo is a better or easier PG to build around than Westbrook. But if they can trade Rondo for a young big then thats what they need to do because good/servicable PGs are a dime a dozen in this league. EX. Sessions filled in just fine for Irving, Vazques filled in fine for Jack, that one guy in NY, point is you can find a PG that can hold the fort, but quality game changing bigs aren’t ez to come across.

There were rumors of Rondo for Gasol, which IMO would heavily favor the C’s if this went through…but these are the type of scenarios they should be looking for. I’d cross my fingers and try to pry Kanter out of Utah, Cousins from SAC, Gortat somehow, or something along these lines. IMO Bos is screwed until their big3 are through.

No, OKC needs Westbrooks scoring way too much. I would take it if I am Bostin though.

Sessions is a real PG who’s started before.

If Rondo is gone who’s the Celtics backup that has experience.

Gasol helps them inside but they aren’t good enough to win.

Also Rondo’s defense would be really missed.

If OKC trades Westbrook for Rondo who’s gonna pick up the scoring lost.

i would agree. but that’s because he isn’t a great playmaker tho isn’t it? rondo gets to okc, all of a sudden durant is the scoring champ, ibaka starts catching oops.

Could you imagine Durants possible ppg with Rondo dishing out double digit assists every game? I honestly don’t think OKC would do it however, because teams would simply play off Rondo and focus all their energy on Durant. Somebody would need to pick up some of the scoring load. Their defense would be ferocious though.

To answer those q’s as simply as possible:

Westbrook is averaging 22 pts on 19 shots (.469% acceptable). Rondo is averaging 15pts on 12 shots(.492% respectable). Rondo would be a fool, and benched for averaging 19 shots, playing alongside Ray, KG, and Pierce. However in their absences or when the game requires his scoring touch Rondo usually ALWAYS picks up the slack.

In games where Rondo scores 20+pts he shoots 56%…..56%!

So what are we really questioning? It’s not that Rondo isn’t capable of scoring, it’s that he doesn’t need to score as much on that team. They both struggle from 3 and you can live with them taking pull up J’s…

Bottom line, if you ask Rondo to go out and get you 20-25 pts he will, just like Westbrook.

If I was Boston, I’d do it. If I was Oklahoma City? I have my questions. Yes, Rondo could score, but he isn’t a natural scorer. He’s never gonna put up 20 points in a season, even with the green light, it’s not his game. If you’re Oklahoma City, you would need to make sure your bench is good enough to take some of the scoring load lost when you deal Westbrook.

If the Celtics think their championship window has closed then why would they trade
    their best young player?

Why don’t they trade one of their veterans to get some younger talent? They could trade
Kevin Garnett back to the T Wolves for Beasley, Wes Johnson, Anthony Tolliver, Darko, and a 1st round pick.
The Celtics get some good young big men, a guy they can start at center and a future pick. Wes Johnson needs a change of scenary and would be a good running mate for Rondo.
The T Wolves get KG to help out Kevin Love and Pekovic and would be the veteran leader they need for the next few years. A front line of Love, Pek, and Derrick Williams with KG and Anthony Randolph off the bench would give the team great balance and would allow Pek, D Will and Randolph enough space to develop.

The Celtics would finish the year with Rondo, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Beasley, and Darko as a more dynamic and quicker starting five with Wes Johnson and Brandon Bass off the bench. This trade buys the Celtics some more time and also helps them for the future.

Minny gets an ideal sixth man for the next few years and veteran savvy.

Of course the Celtics would do this, but OKC would not do this in a million years. They severely need Westbrook’s scoring. Rondo would be a better passer, but he wouldn’t provide the full offensive game they need from Westbrook.

If I’m Sam Presti, then no. Westbrook is only starting to scrape his potential. Westbrook could be a number one option on a team of his own, here is the 2nd option to one of the best players in the league. Durant and Westbrook compliment each other perfectly. Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke.

     No.

    Westbrook is great for OKC

    Rondo is great for Boston.

Durant is a big time player/scorer no doubt, but people think with a quote on quote "TRUE" PG his points will sky rocket or something, Durant is averaging 26 per game on 20 shots per game, I mean how many points do guys think he can average? 40?

    Not happening.
