bearcatmattParticipantWhat is up. Pardon my bias, but someone tell me why Yancey Gates is no where to be found on either board?!! You mean to tell me a 6’9, 245 pound Big East pf, with paint presence, and a proven mid-range j will go UNDRAFTED? I know my Bearcats aren’t exactly interesting draft fodder as of late, but someone please enlighten me…

B FreeParticipantNot a bad point, he has potential but hasn’t put it together yet, you would think the guy you just described would be Big East player of the year but he wasn’t even on the honorable mention team. But with such a weak draft getting weaker by the minute maybe he should enter he might slip into the bottom of round one.

bearcatmattParticipantI don’t think he’s worthy of Big East POY, I’m just surprised he’s not on the mock board for ’12. He’s no Okafor, but he’s no slouch either. You’re right when you say this draft is getting weaker. I do see one positive, however. I think teams may be trending back to drafting mature upperclassmen in favor of young players with ‘upside’.

YSUFan10Participantyes, yes, yes, yes!!! Yancy Gates is my favorite college basketball player. I COMPLETETLYAGREE! Why is he not projected in next year’s draft?? He shouldn’t enter this year, because Cincy can be something special next year. BEARCATS!!!

kaceyParticipantJeremy Evans was on no ones mock last year and he has turned out to be a solid second round pick for the Jazz. Anything can happen between now and draft night.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantAt the start of the season he was in alot of mocks..But played his way out of them…After failing to live up to the expections some had of him…Alot of people thought he could’ve been an all Big East performer..With his ability to run the floor, solid footwork, inside post moves and a pro body. You’ll expect more out of him…The talent is there..He might be 1 of those players that will a better pro than college player…

bearcatmattParticipantRudeboy,
Your response was spot on!! I do see Gates having more success in the NBA than in college. I think he’s better than his numbers suggest, but that’s life in UC’s post-Huggins era. Cronin likes to spread it around, no one go-to guy. Instead of having one player as the focal point of the offense, Cronin likes to have 3-4 guys who can take that shot once they break down opposition’s defense. Thanks for your response, it made a lot of sense.

YurpleHazEParticipantI like his skill set plus he’s a TRUE BIG MAN…….But he was way to assertive at times, I felt he could have dominated more than he did….Hopefully he comes back with a vengance next season…

JNixonParticipantYancy Gates is too inconsistent, that’s why he doesn’t get love. He’s got some raw talent offensively, and he’s got pretty light feet for a guy that’s about 68 or 6’9 265, but he’s not as tough as his physical build suggests and he’s got wavering intensity and consistency trouble. He could get drafted in the 2nd round though, but it’s not some big travesty that he’s not in mocks IMO.
