To be honest, I don’t know anything about contracts but I thought this might help get rid of some of the atrocious contracts we have in the NBA today. Why not make every salary over $10 million be performance based? Possibly have a bulk stat and an efficiency stat that each player needs to meet or they lose ‘X’ amount of money.

Wouldn’t Amare rebound better if he knew he was going to lose 2 million (random number) a year if he doesn’t get 8.5 rebounds per game? Maybe Blake Griffin would hit the gym and work on his FT’s if he knew he had to hit 65% to keep his full salary.

Obviously it’s not anywhere near perfect and it could lead to some guys only playing for stats (which is why using ppg would be a bad idea for this, but it’s also why I added an efficiency stat), but I think it’d be better then letting Rashard Lewis and Joe Johnson eating up 20 million a year. It should at least help keeping guys from only trying in their contracts years, and if it doesn’t they lose a nice chunk of their massive salary. 

Anyways it was just a random idea I thought up. So let me know what you think, what’s wrong with my idea, how it can improve, whether I’m in need of medical assistance, etc.

They are already are doing it. I don’t know if the new CBA effects it much.

 I know they do incentives, but they don’t take money away from a contract for not meeting requirements, which is what I was going for. That way when you give Rashard Lewis the max and he’s only half a productive as you thought he’d be; he won’t make 20 million, but he’ll make say 12 million instead (too much of a loss?).

I like the idea of it, but than you get into bad teams purposely sitting players to avoid having to pay them.  The NFL faces the same incentive problems.

Will any Star Player take a pay cut and restructure their contract

In the case of Amare, if he agreed to take a few million off his contract every year until it expires, it would greatly help the Knicks salary cap situation

What if Hedo agreed to restructure his Deal to help Dwight and The Magic sign another Guard

Of Course a clause would have to be in place where Teams couldn’t trade said player for X amount of seasons but I don’t see why more players don’t put their money where their mouth Is…

Dwight Howard could easily go the Super good guy route and take a 10 million dollar per year contract instead of the max which he fully deserves, let’s say he and The Magic use that Cap space to lure another Free Agent and it increases his Q Rating and Team’s chances to win a NBA Title in the next 5 years(Howard’s Prime)

Just a question, why can NFL players get cut with a snap of a finger while NBA players can’t be?

You got overpaid NFL players being cut, but you need an amnesty to waive an overpaid player?
