its obvious Embiid is the future with the sixers so either Noel or Okafor is their way out. If they manage to stay with Philly at the end of the season would it make sense for the Knicks to offer their a 1st rounder for Noel and would Philly take it? I value Nerlens more than Okafor so i’m going with Okafor. With Nerlens Noel, your not gettting a big time scorer, but instead a solid defensive presence in the paint who may be a bit undersized sort of like a Marcus Camby.

Okafor or Noel would definitely be an upgrade over their current crop of centers. That said, if the Knicks trade Melo and get a solid big in return from whatever third team gets involved in the Clippers deal, they may not need to talk to the Sixers about a big. Plus, good draft picks are hard to come by, and it seems like the Knicks are committed to a rebuild going forward. Considering the depth of the upcoming draft, I think the Knicks need to hold on to their pick.

Noel is a RFA so it would have to be a sign and trade. He’s been playing very well as of late so I would love to to keep him but if he’s adamant that he wants to start there yeah I would take that deal but I’m not sure the Knicks would give up that much.

wpuld pair very will with porzingus it just depends on how high the pick is…if they start to lose really badly, melo trade, and the pick is top seven then no you just can’t miss on an opportunity to take a dynamic guard to pair with porzingus, but at 12 you’re not getting a more talented player than oak or Noel who are just as young as the player your getting at 12

Why not just trade Okafor for a Carmelo rental?

Philly sends a contract or two like Jerryd Bayless’ to make it work…

Maybe get a third team involved to send some contracts to the Knicks in exchange for a Philly 2nd round pick.

As a hedge, the Sixers get a couple of young fringe role players like Ron Baker and Marshall Plumlee.

A third team like the Grizzlies get involved where Chandler Parsons would go to the Knicks, Bayless would go to the Grizzlies, and Gerald Henderson goes to the Knicks. The Grizzlies would swap 2nd rounders with Philly.  Philly would still get Ron Baker and Marshall Plumlee from the Knicks with the Grizzlies perhaps throwing in a D League small forward like Troy Williams.

The Knicks get Okafor plus Chandler Parsons to replace Carmelo. The Sixers get Carmelo for the rest of the season, and the Grizzlies pick up Bayless while getting rid of Chandler Parsons contract.  In this deal, maybe Gerald Henderson goes to Memphis, too.

Another option would be the Knicks blowing it up totally, the Sixers going after picks and young assets, with the Grizzlies going "all in".

Knicks get Okafor, Bayless, Gerald Henderson, and cash from Philly along with Chandler Parsons, Jarrell Martin, Brandan Wright, James Ennis, and a 2nd round pick from the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies get Carmelo Anthony, Jo Noah, and Derrick Rose.

Philly gets Ron Baker, Marshall Plumlee, Lance Thomas, and a 2017 2nd round pick from the Knicks plus Troy Williams, Wade Baldwin, a 2017 2nd round pick, and a future 1st round pick from the Grizzlies.

I think taking the Okafor bet is the right move for the knicks. Noel is just another way to throw away assets and money (in salary since he becomes RFA)to somebody that might not be a good fit with Porzingis or Phil Jackson and his triangle obsession.

Okafor is becoming cheaper and cheaper and he still has talent and upside. There is always the chance he ends up an absolute bust, but he is worth the risk.

Issue is the knicks contract situation right now unless they trade Melo is not good.

I can see the sixers taking Jamal Crawford’s contract in a Melo trade with Okafor in the mix. They were rumors about him to the 76ers in the offseason.

The Knicks pick might be too much for Okafor if the Knicks start losing/tanking though.

Maybe several pick swaps? No idea how much a pick swap is worth, but my intuition is that about 4 pick swaps is worth a 1st rounder in a vacuum (each year about 50% chance of swapping, need to complete 2 swaps to be worth a pick), but you have to take the team’s level of play into account etc… I think Philly should do it for 4 pick swaps, not sure NY should accept though, even if the 2017 swap is very unlikely, the 3 next are likely. With the decrease in value for Jah, it’s possible the right value is 3 swaps, or 4 swaps and the Knicks get someone else like Nik Stauskas (depending on how the Knicks free the money for Okafor, they should be able to take Stauskas contract as well, if the sixers get some veteran guard like Crawford, they would not mind giving up Stauskas, even if he is a cheap young guard on a better year).
