We’ve talked about how Greg Monroe and Jabari Parker would probably be the worst defensive frontcourt in the NBA, which is why GFreak should probably be starting over one of them.

Who are the worst defensive backcourts/perimeter trios in the NBA right now, as far as projected starters?

No doubt it’s the Lakers, with Clarkson, Russell, and Kobe. Yikes, trikes.

    Who else stands out?

If McCollum starts next to Lillard, that’s a terrible defensive backcourt too.

I think starting LaVine at SG is the wrong move for the Wolves. Not sure if they are still leaning that direction or not. A Rubio/LaVine/Wiggins trio would be pretty terrible defensively, not that anybody would notice if they dunk once in a while.

Wiggins is probably a much better defender at SG, and he should probably start there. Maybe start Bjelica at SF.

Rubio is still undoubtedly a good defender, but a LaVine/Wiggins tandem at SG and SF would be good for nothing but tanking.

Coach Sam Mitchell said it himself when he told the media he’s starting Lavine for developmental purposes: twitter.com/APkrawczynski/status/651890181415505922

The backcourt will have plenty of issues defensively. No doubt Kevin Martin is currently more efficient and productive on the offensive end as well. The Wolves are continuing to tank & develop their young bucks, and they’ll reap the reward with another high draft pick next year.

As hard as it is for me to say… It’s the Jazz backcourt. With Trey and Alec starting, which is what’s projected to be, they will be terrible when it comes to defense. However, with Quin Snyder being a huge defense freak, he may put Raul Neto and Rodney Hood in the starting lineup, and that will be a decent defensive backcourt.

But with Trey Burke and Alec Burks, defense probably won’t happen

I wouldn’t worry too much about that lack of backcourt defense with Gobert playing behind them, Favors too.

If David Lee and Zeller end up starting together, that’s a pretty bad defensive frontcourt. Zeller is average, at best, but Lee is over the hill. If Evan Turner ended up starting with those two, that’s a pretty darn bad starting defensive front court.

Aldridge/Duncan might be the most overrated defensive frontcourt duo at this point. Aldridge is better at taking long two point jumpers at low efficiency than he is at defense, and Splitter has probably been making Duncan look better than he is for years now.

Aldridge is not a great defender but no one really thinks he is anyway, so he isn’t really overrated.

Splitter was often hurt and topped out at roughly 20 mpg when Duncan was healthy as well. Tiago is a strong defender in his own right, but Duncan is still one of the elite interior defenders in the entire league. They both help each other but Timmy’s combo of fantastic positional defense and rim protection shouldn’t be understated.

defending champion Miami Heat & you will see that the rout started & ended w/ Duncan’s master-class interior defense / rim protection…

Scola/Valanciunas looks competitive with Jabari Parker/Monroe, if Scola ends up starting in Toronto.

And Tobias Harris/Vucivic better not be the starting frontcourt for the Magic going forward. Same for Channing Frye/Vucivic.

Lakers will be bad defensively on the perimeter. But clarkson is a fantastic defender, it won’t be because of him.

You said this before I could. I think Clarkson has a ton of defensive upside. I think he’s slightly above average today (way improved from last year) and even better down the line. He’ll guard the PG’s like John Wall and Russell will handle the Bradley Beals of the world. Russell also hasn’t been that bad and could eventually end up slightly above average (mostly thanks to intelligence). Are they the worst backcourt defense right now? Yes. Why? Mostly the defensive black hole that is Kobe Bryant.

Mo Williams needs a mention. Coach Blatt should look at other options in the backcourt.

Frontcourt- Boston, NY, Dallas, Hornets, Lakers, NY.

Backcourt-Clippers (yes Paul is great, however J.J. is awful), Detroit, Pacers (Monta won’t play D for an entire game or quarter), Lakers, T-Wolves, and the Heat.
