marcusfizer21ParticipantMINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Timberwolves have exercised contract options for next season on forwards Michael Beasley and Kevin Love, guards Jonny Flynn and Wayne Ellington, and center Kosta Koufos.
The moves were made Monday. The Wolves also let the deadline pass for offering forward Corey Brewer a contract extension beyond this season, meaning he’ll become a restricted free agent next summer.
Beasley, Love and Koufos will be fourth-year players in 2011-12, while Flynn and Ellington will be in their third year.
Brewer is in a crowd at the wing position, and the Wolves want to wait to see how this season develops before making more commitments. Brewer is the longest-tenured player on the team. He was selected in the first round of the 2007 Draft.

IndianaBasketballParticipantBrewer had a good season last year, but other than that… He hasn’t been what I thought he’d be coming out of Florida (of course the knee injury set him back).
I have no problem with not extending him. Let him hit the open market and see what he’s worth.

omphalosParticipantNice to see Beasley will be around for a little while longer at least. Brewer does seem a step back from Martell Webster and Wesley Johnson so it makes sense they don’t want to extend him. Not sure how well he’ll go in the free market, might be signed close to the minimum somewhere to come off the bench.

ajk004ParticipantBrewer would be somewhat expensive for the 3-4 option wing. Koufas might never be NBA good, but 2 million for a 3rd string young healthy 7 footer isn’t something to put much thought into. I suppose Brewer could be used as an expiring come deadline time then.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantIt wasn’t an option on Brewer. He wasn’t extended, but they can still tender him the QO next summer. I actually doubt he will get the tender because he isn’t a $5 million per year player, but he could have value in the league for around half that amount.

TRC1991Participantive never been a fan of Brewer…he needs to have the ball to be effective and he’s not even a good offensive player… this = a lack of production

MkadozaParticipantBrewer is a serviceable Julian Wright, or a Wes Johnson with less offensive potential. Can you say expendable?

SERBIAN BALLER 16ParticipantIt was obvious that one of the wings had to go. Wes Johnson, Beasley, Corey Brewer,Wayne Ellington,Lazar Hayward,Martell Webster, and Nemanja Bjelica coming over in afew years just doesnt add up.

khaled_a_dParticipantI don’t get it,he is already playing his 4th year in his rookie contract, and as all 1st round pick it is the last year
so there is actually no option to pick(qualifying offer is in June) and considering that there is like 5-6 players only who has signed an extension from 2007 class I don’t think that will be an issue for him
