The Wolves were down nine against the Suns and they came back and won the game. Until tonight the biggest deficit they’ve been able to overcome all season has been six points. A big shout out to Shabazz Muhammad, who was the catalyst for us tonight. He scored 20 on 8-13 in 24 minutes off the bench.

    Boom city.

Yeah the Wolves have the Suns number. Should have beaten the Suns earlier in the season but Green hit that fadeaway jumper to win. Wolves are a good team, but just happen to be in the tough West. Wouldn’r count them out of it yet though.

The games leading up to @Dallas on 3/19 are critical. They’re 5 1/2 behind PHX and 7 1/2 behind Dallas.
They pretty much have to pull off the next eight against SAC, DEN, NY, DET, TOR, MIL, CHA, SAC and then beat Dallas to get back into the race. They should win these upcoming games, but I’m not counting my chickens. No way.

It is going to take the Wolves playing really well and at least two teams that they are chasing playing really poorly.

The Wolves have 25 games left. The wolves are currently 10th in the west, trailing 9th place Memphis and the playoff teams. There are road games at Dallas, Houston, Memphis, Miami, and Golden State. There are tough home games against Phoenix, the Clippers, Memphis, Atlanta, San Antonio, Houston, and Chicago. If the wolves went 18-7 that would get them to 46 wins.

Phoenix currently sits in the 8th playoff spot at 33-23. If Phoenix goes 14-12 they would end up with 47 wins. Dallas sits in the 7th slot at 35-23, and GS is at 35-22. Dallas needs only to go 12-12, and GS only 12-13, to get to 47 wins. Memphis is at 31-24. A 16-11 finish gets Memphis to 47 wins.

So, bottom line, the wolves need a torrid finish against a tough schedule AND at least two teams ahead of them collapsing. The odds are certainly against them.

I’m really glad Bazz was given a chance and delivered, I’d be super excited if Minny made the post-season and Bazz was getting significant minutes. Those all look like winnable games too.

He also played 20 minutes or so the previous game. I haven’t seen any of them, probably ‘Bazz has found his spot in the rotation?

Once KMart comes back quite a few of those minutes will go away as the Wolves will go mostly with KMart starting, and JJ playing at the 2 in a small ball backcourt with Rubio. Brewer and Budinger will divide most of the minutes at SF. I think Bazz will get some minutes at the expense of Alexy Shved and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, who will both quite possibly get a lot of DNP’s.

But, if Bazz can play like he has this past week, then Adelman will probably play JJ and Brewer a little less than he is now and Bazz can get a few of their minutes as well. Bazz is a willing and effective rebounder, which neither Brewer nor Budinger offers.

Bazz has played well since he’s started getting minutes. He’s playing hard and doing a lot of little things that I think are really paying off with Adelman. This team has a totally different dynamic with him getting solid minutes. Comparing him to Shved (who he’s taken a lot of minutes from) isn’t even close. Shabazz has been agressive attacking the hoop and rebounding the hell out of the ball. The thing I love is he knows his strengths and his weaknesses and doesn’t try to be something he’s not. His defense still needs work, but has actually been better than I expected. I actually see him being a somewhat versatile defender in the future. He’s 6’6" with a 7′ wingspan and strong for his size. Last night he was guarding P.J. Tucker and the Morris twins and holding his own, but I do feel he struggles against quicker wings. The most improtant thing Shabazz brings though is that he plays with an edge, which is what this team deserately needed.

To add to AJY52’s comments, Bazz seems to have figured out that he has two above average NBA skills, a solid post game and above average rebounding. Last night Bazz scored an efficient 20 points on a mix of putbacks and postups. With his long arms and strength, Bazz is able to do some work down on the block against all but the biggest defenders.

Bazz also showed some nice decision making, passing the ball back out when he didn’t have good position. Earlier in the season Bazz had a tendency to force the issue when it just wasn’t there.

Bazz was really effective on the glass, getting several crucial boards, and keeping other balls alive. His rotated well on defense, stayed with his man, and gave a couple of nice hard (but clean) fouls on drives.

Adelman doesn’t seem to want to play the rookies…..ever. Only injuries to Pek, Martin, and Rony Turiaf, have opened up some PT as Adelman has been forced to go deeper into the bench. Shved wasn’t getting it done, LRMaM is strictly a defender, Hummel can’t find his shot, so Shabazz is about the only healthy wing (other than Budinger) who can score. I hope that he can continue to play with the same energy. It’s nice to see young guys get a chance, and then run with it. Bazz seems to enjoy being on the court in the 4th quarter, and seems to have the mindset where he has no fear about taking the big shot. Other than Love, a lot of the other Wolves players don’t seem to relish that responsibility.

Love, by the way, is a freakin’ beast. One assist away from another triple double.
