He is asking for alot of money for a point guard who shoot the ball very well. The depth at that position in this league and coming up thru the college ranks makes me think that Minesota can trade him for a decent Draft pick, and try out Zach lavine to gauge his full potential.  If he doesnt work out at the point they can always find a replacement via draft/free agency versus paying rubio X amount of dollars.

    No.

Zach has tons of potential, but he’s not ready to run the offense. He might not even be ready for rotation minutes right now. He may be a long-term cornerstone, but three years from now he could be playing alongside Rubio rather than taking his job from him.

Plus, look at the salary cap bump coming in 2016. $12-13 million a season for Rubio won’t look so bad when the salary cap is $80-90 million. And I’m not trying to jump the gun here, but Rubio has been impressive on offense the past few games. He’s looking to score, and he’s knocking down jumpers (scored in double figures both games). Shooting coach Mike Penberthy might actually be helping.

Three years from now the Wolves could be running out this rotation:

    Rubio (27) LaVine (22) Wiggins (22) Bennett (24) Dieng (27) Muhammad (24)

LaVine might be good, but Rubio is good.

Still not convinced Rubio is a starting PG.  He’s not the answer for Minny.

I think the wolves should throw LaVine into the fire let him make mistakes on the court. He doesen’t need to start but he should play heavy minutes at both guard spots and give him a long leash allow him to make mistakes and grow.

Have you been watching the pre-season?

LaVine is nowhere ready to be a starting NBA point guard, and Rubio on the other hand, with his passing and ability to run an offense, could be a real key to get this young group to mesh together.

The T-Wolves have some great young pieces, but they don’t need to rush things. They’re in a rebuilding mode, and with vets like Rubio, Thad and Pek they might not be God awful. I think this is a team that could win 27-30 games and at least be somewhat competitive.

Thrusting LaVine and his 1/2 assist / TO ratio this pre-season, yes, that’s not reversed, two TO’s to every one assist into a starting role could really have a negative effect and hurt his confidence.

If there’s 1 guy they could move, I bet it’s Pek. I always though he was overrated, and without a PF to spread the floor out to 25 feet so he can bully his man 1 on 1….I don’t think he’ll be as effective. I wouldn’t be shocked if Dieng’s improvement causes the Wolves to ship of Pek this year.

Personally I’ve always considered LaVine a 2 not a 1. I understand people making the Westbrook comparison but I don’t think LaVine should ever play the 1. He’s strictly a 2 in my opinion.

If he can’t draw the defense in to kick it out then it’s no point to have a combo guard playing the PG spot…  He won’t get the offense set up properly and he doesn’t command enough attention driving to lay off your man…  With that said, neither can Rubio although he is a much better PG and can set up the offense…   Shooting 25% in the 4th quarter, Rubio isn’t the PG of the future for this or any other team actually.  The Wolves need to move on soon and I believe LaVine might can make that jump, but not right now…

You can’t drive and kick if you’re not surrounded by shooters. I think developing the midrange for both Lavine and Wiggins is key confidence-wise. I don’t think Rubio deserves 12-13M, but he might be one step away from being really really good. Those youngster are going to get a lot of easy baskets from him.

Not saying start him. I disagree with Zach only being a 2. Have you watched him? He clearly makes the right plays with the ball. He reads the defense. He does penetrate and if he shows he can hit a open J he will get in the paint more.

Lavine’s averaing 0.8 assists and 2.8 turnovers in 20 minutes, yep, sounds like Rubio is living on borrowed time (/green font)

And also back up at PG. Yeah he should get minutes at both spots.
