DWill is a Star, some say this is what he is a Star, Not a SuperStar in the upper echelon of Players that NBA favor. Regardless of How some people feel i think he is a great player and Can be a franchise player (SuperStar) for the right team. JSloan was with the Jazz for 20something years you would think owership would go with the coach in this situation, but i guess this is a Player’s league & Coaches can be replaced. I just hope this does’nt hurt DWill with the fanbase in Utah.

butidonthavemoneyThe loyalty of any real Jazz fan belongs with Jerry Sloan and Phil Johnson.
Let’s trade Williams to the Nets for Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and a few draft picks.

jjonzParticipantIf you have a player that is special you always take player over Coach. MJordan over DCollins/Shaq over VanGundy/M.Johnson demanded a trade Unless P.Westphal was fired, he was gone the next day. SuperStars/Franchise Guy’s should have that much authority if they can lead a team to Chips.

goneParticipantjjonz presentation is half the excitement a title like "D will is a jerk" would have been waaaayyyy more controversial.
But I agree trade his ass but to the Knicks
Curry, 2035 1st round pick, Wilson Chandler, Isiash Thomas’ sexual harrassment case, and of course Anthony Randolph and his life size potentials for Dwill 🙂

jjonzParticipantBut if Owners believe that Sloan is Over & if they Believe that DWill is more important then you take player Over Coach. I know if Jack Haley had a Problem with PhilJax. Haley would have gotten the AX. But Sloan has had Success since the short short days. I just wish they could have continue to get better. Now the ? is will DWill stay.

"I think from a front office point of view, you usually side with the player over the coach (especially if it’s a player of Deron’s caliber), but there a few coachs in the league you side with first, and Sloan is definitely one of them."

Cardinal_FanParticipantDeron Williams is en elite player in my opinion, an he is the best PG in the league imo. I think he doesnt have the hype around him that CP3, or the team that Rondo has, or maybe not as exciting as Derrick Rose. D.Rose got the best of him last night but he is juss as good as any 1 of those guys i just mentioned.

Utah is gonna get blown out at home one day, Williams is gonna show frustration, not try on a play, and you guys are gonna boo him. You are gonna blog, tweet, post all kinds of horrible things about him. He is going to leave for New York, New Jersey, Dallas, or Orlando, or wherever and you guys are going to lose Sloan, Williams and probally miss the playoffs. Damn!

SwatLakeCityParticipantPeople, people, people. Stop with the accusing finger. This resignation is no one’s fault. This was all Jerry’s decision. A part of the decision was Deron’s doing but a small part the bulk of it was Jerry’s decision and his alone. Trading a player just because he disagrees with the coach is not the answer. This will only cause further disruption and further confusion. This resignation, this change was inevitable, meaning it was bound to happen. I firmly believe that even if Dwill did not react the way he did yesterday, Jerry Sloan would still have to resign. The Jazz need a change. Dwill knew this and wanted it to happen in order to start winning because he hates losing so much.
While he (Dwill) may be the team leader, he is still only a player on the Jazz, and as such he does not decide whether or not a trade or a coaching change happens. Upper management decides that. Jerry has a little more control because he can decide if he wants to retire or not, which is exactly what happened, but he does not decide who to coach in his stead nor whether or not he leaves via fire. He decides whether he leaves via retirement and that alone. Dwill is second in command on how his team reacts to the opposition and how they play, not whether or not a change needs to happen. He knows this, so even though he wants a change to happen, he can do nothing in that respect. And so to try and "influence" Jerry’s decision (although once again this "influence" played a small part in Jerry’s decision, he chose whether or not to resign not Deron for him) he reacted the way he did, and then to further try and "influence" upper management’s decision to change the system in Utah, by threatening to leave unless a change happened. Can you blame him? He can do nothing else because the little control he has in the direction the team heads.
Now I do not propose that players be given more control into the direction of the team, on the contrary, I am merely supporting dwill’s intentions because he could see that a change was emminent. Now I do not agree that Dwill should have acted that way, but his intentions are honorable. His actions no, but his intentions, yes. A player should not be punished for merely voicing his opinion. (that’s exactly what Deron was doing)
I truly believe that this change is exactly what Utah needed to wakeup and get their act together. I firmly believe that this change will convince Dwill to stay and also cause Utah’s fortunes to change for the better. This change, this resignation, was inevitable.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI’d go with Sloan all day.
I found it funny that during the press conference, they kept making it an emphasis that players come and go, but the franchise will remain. And they made it an emphasis to say that they supported the next coach and bascially that the players better fall in line.
I definitely thinkWilliams had A LOT to do with Sloan stepping down.

butidonthavemoneyAnd of course Sloan is way too classy to say that Williams had anything to do with his decision.
Man, I’ll miss him. He would really stand up for his players. Sloan in his gray-haired years squared up to Dennis Rodman after he hit John Stockton. That’s something we may never see again.
Even something like this shows you what kind of coach Sloan is.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI’m not "hurt" by it either, but as a fan of the game… I had respect for Sloan.
He didn’t win any titles, but not everything can measured by that. He meant a lot to that organization and stood for the right things in my opinion. I just think a man who meant that much and who’d been there for so long should’ve been able to leave the game better than this. Him resigning during the middle of the season because of a crybaby diva "superstar" isn’t the way I’d have liked to see it end for him.

BKKnicksfanParticipantListen…Deron Williams pushed Sloan out. He wanted him gone, they argued more then 3 times according to Jazz beat writers. He didn’t want to be there with Sloan there.
You what this says to me? Williams is a punk ass.

j1232eParticipantSad day to see Jerry go, hopefully tyrone corbin will give the jazz a new identity and style they so need. Once again sad to see jerry go but now it’s time to see what corbin will bring.

SteroidParticipantJerry Sloan is a great coach, but I don’t think we have enough information about what actually went on to make between him and Deron other than they argued a few times. Lets face it, this is a player’s league, and superstar players probably get into disagreements with their coaches all the time behind the scenes I bet. I’m not trying to say Sloan is a quitter, but I don’t honestly believe Deron pushed him out either. In my opinion, Sloan probably made a rash decision. He is known as a hard nosed coach, and it’s hard for a coach to coach like that in this age with "Diva" superstars. I don’t think Deron is necessarily a selish player, and it is just hard for me to also believe that these disagreements were things that could not be patched up. Sloan has done a lot for the Jazz, and I feel like the Jazz should give him something back in return for his loyalness, but the Jazz would be fine with letting Sloan go over trading Deron especially when Deron is the main reason why they are competitive. Sports is always about what have you done for me lately…

kaceyParticipantFor anyone who has been saying D-Will is the best PG in the league, then he is rightfully considered a superstar. Its unfortunate that D-Will and Sloan got into an argument, and its unfortunate that Sloan and Johnson couldn’t get on the same page with O’Connor, but this doesn’t mean that D-Will all of a sudden drops down to just a star. The guy still has superb talent. Sloan has been around forever and this break, or retirement, will be good for him.

Kid From KoreaParticipantI’ve been an avid follower of this site. I spent most of my time honing my skills in the Himalayan mountains. Under tough conditions, it was my duty to make you all laugh. Make you all cry. Make you all laugh and cry so much it makes you pass gas and blame it on your dog. You can say, I came out of the proverbial closet after sweetly biding my time.
Naw honestly, I been reading for a while. I have a lot of weird thoughts in my head throughout the day with no outlet, so I made an account. This is just the beginning….
I would also like to add that today, February 10, 2011, is truly a bittersweet day. One of the greatest coachs of all time steps down, while one of the greatest shooters of all steps up in the record books. Big shout out to Ray Allen for having the wettest J ever. It’s too bad his dad, Denzel, is in jail…

OhCanada-ParticipantCome on Matt I know its you lol. You gave it away by saying you want Wright or Love to win MIP, Wright was on your team in fantasy I think still is, and Love is your favourite player. You said the Brain trademark Muahahahha, and noone from Ontario Canada ever says they are from Ontario Canada. Lol Ontario is bigger then most countries and of course its in Canada, if your down south Ontario you say near the boarder, if your remotely near Toronto you say from Toronto, and if youre Northern to Toronto you say Northern lol.
Dont make me do it! Ill tell them the truth to your ways. Ill decipher this subliminal message!
