Williams Expected To Sign With Orlando

    Aug 19, 2009 2:46 PM EST
The Orlando Magic will sign Jason Williams in the coming days, according to a source that spoke with RealGM’s Alex Kennedy.

Williams, who worked out for the Magic on Tuesday, resides in Orlando with his family and will return after retiring shortly before the 08-09 season.

The Memphis Grizzlies and New York Knicks have also expressed interest in Williams.

Williams has averaged 11.4 points and 6.3 assists over the course of his ten-year career.

He didn’t play all of last year, and when he has runs in the Orlando area (Summer leagues @ RDV/Pro Ams), he struggles defending players w/college experience, and players such as myself who’ve played professionally either here in the states, or overseas. There are several players the Magic could’ve picked up who didn’t get drafted that would’ve certainly been better for them in a back up role. (Levance Fields and Jeremy Pargo).

Granted, he provides veteran leadership in terms of experience, but he’s still a headcase, and will definitely get into it a time or two w/Danny Devito, I mean Coach Stan Van Gundy.

I’ve stood behind most of Otis’ decisions, but I don’t agree w/this one.
