Bulls fan. I have heard the theory that the Bulls have given Williams a promise at 4. That is a pick that would not excite me. If they want Williams they should be able to trade down and still get him.

Aran always fucking with us predraft you know this. However I think the Williams thing may hold some weight. I have hium 5th on my mock which I’ll post in a bit. I think teams have Williams ahead of Toppin due to age. Not sure why hes ahead of Deni but seems thats the case as well. Also theres a real chance that every pick in the top 5 gets traded.

Aran finally having some good mocks. Finally representing Kira’s value correctly. I really don’t know about the Bulls though. I think that’s smoke because they have talked about moving up to 2. Unless that is dead.

I think teams have never quite adjusted their expectations to what a pick is worth to the draft. Maybe this changes in the coming hours, but the teams at the top still seem reluctant to set a price that will actually get them to move back. In the case of the Bulls, let us argue that Patrick Williams is indeed the guy of Billy Donovan, then the question is to trade back to where and for what? Cleveland is at #5. If they are eyeing Avdija or Toppin, then why give up anything to move up? They can hold steady and get their guy. Also, from the Bulls standpoint, if the Pistons are viewed as the team most interested in Williams, then can they really feel comfortable trading back to 6 and allow Detroit to maybe work a deal with Cleveland? The owners of Detroit and Cleveland are close. They are working together to try to get an MLS expansion team, and made the Drummond seemingly out of nowhere. They certainly have each others numbers.

Also, it was only a year ago that Nassir Little, Kevin Porter Jr and Nic Claxton were rising right before the draft, Bol Bol was widely mocked in the lottery and in the green room, Cam Johnson was nowhere near the lottery in any mock draft, and Chuma Okeke’s knee had him going any number of places but not as early as Orlando at #16. Not every rumor holds up.

Noone ever knows whats gonna happen and this year will be worse thana ever. But Aran and his team is usually on point so I’ll trust his judgement.

This pick was interesting for 3 reasons… 1. Cause he never started 1 collegiate gain 2. He’s wasn’t a top 5 prediction in no experts let alone a fans mock draft. 3. He wasn’t the best player on the team at Florida State. I personally had him at #7 to the Detroit Pistons for good reason. Williams will not be start as long as Hutchison, Valentine, Porter Jr and Young on the roster. Now the question is what his position going to be on this roster?

Taking him at 4 did seem a few places too high but with a number of ongoing durabilty issues around the Bulls first choice SF-PF-C they maybe felt Williams versatility and upside was too good to pass over. But he does have boom or bust potential. Reminds me a bit of Tyrus Thomas who the Bulls reached for and drafted at 4 way back in 2006.
But he is considered to be a good character so can hopefully work on his game and develop.
I guess he’ll be a combo forward in the NBA on offence but could guard 3 to 5 on defence especially against smallball teams.

Correction… The Bulls didn’t draft Tyrus Thomas Portland did. The Bulls draft LaMarcus Aldridge the perfect pick for Tyrus Thomas. I was thinking more like Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Just like MKG all defense with the hope that his offsense will catch up and we all see his offense never caught up with him. Patrick has a couple of years for his offensive game to be polished so stay tune.

I am pretty sure Williams is the first top ten pick who averaged single digits in scoring the year he entered the draft. He is young, prototypical NBA body and athleticism, and everyone seems to vouch for his character and work ethic. To his benefit, he went high to a team with a new administration. If he plays 14-18 minutes as a rookie with middling results, he won’t have to worry about a new coach or front office pushing him aside next summer.

Honestly, I thought the Bulls draft would tell us something about what Karnisovas/Eversley/Donovan thought of the players they inherited. Williams does not do that, because nobody would expect a guy who played 20 minutes off the bench in college is taking anyone’s minutes for this coming season, other than maybe Chandler Hutchison. Maybe they are going to use 2020-21 to see how much of the failures of the past three years are on the players and how much was on the coaches and front office, and then figure out how to make something work starting next summer.
