Will Tyler Ennis be one and done this year? It is certainly seeming like it. He came into college pegged as someone who would need two years in college the least but he has played way better then anyone had expected. This site has placed him just right outside the lottery at number 15 in this years draft. I don’t think he should be selected that high but I could picture him being selected from 20-30.

He is not a freak athlete and isn’t super strong either. But he is steady and crafty. He is not turnover prone(only has 13 all year). He can pass the ball, hit the mid range J, and use either hand well. Just an all around heady player.

is a great team and is primed for another deep tourny run. Ennis will be a big part of their success, so I see his stock being fairly high at the end of the year.

This draft is clearly loaded, so the mid first round seems about right for this year’s draft. I like him more than Shane Larkin as a prospect (was drafted in a similar position last year).

Ive knew about Tyler since he was in about 10th grade, I think he will.. hes playing at a high level. Seems like GM’s trust a PG like Tyler. Smart, can shoot, crafty and hes a winner. He plays at his own speed. If cuse keeps playing like this it will only raise his stock. Ive been saying he reminds me of Kyrie with his ball handling, change of pace and crafty layups around the rim. Hes slower than Kyrie tho.. Cuse has a really good team tho

He’s more Cory Joseph than Kyrie. Certainly a poised player and quality prospect.

I can’t imagine him jumping unless he’s a lottery pick, and I can’t imagine he’ll be a lottery pick.  I love him.  Was at the game today and he’s just so impressive for a freshman.  But in terms of an NBA prospect, I think there are way too many concerns with him at this point in time.

    1. Defense.  I don’t think there are many NBA PGs that he’ll be able to keep in front of himself.  He’s not that big, and he isn’t quick at all.  You can see it when he gets outlet passes and is chased down from behind by the other team’s big men, and you can see it in how easily people are able to get past him in the zone.

    2. Athleticism.  This plays a big role in his defense being a likely liability, but it also hurts him on the offensive end.  The fast break that is usually such a big strength for Syracuse is pretty much non-existant this year because he isn’t able to beat people down the court, and he also struggles mightily to finish inside.  He’s barely shooting 40% inside the 3 point line this year, and you can tell just by watching him play that he really struggles to get above the defense to finish around the hoop, and this will only be worse at the next level.  At the same time, he struggles to beat his man off the dribble (with the exception of today, where he made Hart look silly time after time).  He’s amazing at controlling the game and maintaining control of the ball, but he doesn’t really have a crossover that he can beat people with.

At the end of the day, I don’t think he’ll be more than a backup PG in the NBA unless he can become an elite shooter (not just shooting when he’s wide open and knocking those down, but being able to make defenses pay if they give him an inch of space), an elite passer (at the moment, he’s fantastic at taking care of the basketball, but you also rarely see him make those amazing passes that MCW was able to make last year), or if he can improve drastically on his quickness and athleticism (which is pretty unlikely).

I just can’t imagine an NBA team taking a chance on him in the lottery when he has so many things that will likely hold him back.  I think he could be a late 1st round pick, but do you really want to jump to the NBA as a freshman if there’s a chance you could slip into the 2nd round?  Ennis doesn’t seem like the type of kid that will make a decision like that.

Having said all that, obviously as a Cuse fan, I would love to see this be proven wrong, because it would likely mean he was great enough this year to carry us back to the Final Four again, but I don’t think he’s nearly the prospect that MCW was a year ago.  And I cannot say enough about how impressive he’s been so far this year.  He scared me to death with his stinker he had in his first game against Cornell, but he’s been exceptional lately.

I’m gonna have to disagree with you on a few things. You may be overly concerned about the players percieved lack of athleticism. He is an average level athlete for his size and at 18 years old, it will be a few years before he reaches his peak athleticism. I dont think Chris Paul is an above average athlete and he’s holding up pretty well. Like paul ennis is getting a ton of steals, close to 3 per game.

Ennis is an Elite skill and IQ player. His handle is excellent and efficient. He does not waste dribbles trying to get past people. He manipulates the screen and roll very well which of course is the staple of NBA offense. While he is not a fast player, the combination of skill and IQ makes him incredibly quick. His pace and intelligence with the ball in his hand really stands out. Sometimes we over value athletisicm, while it makes the game easier for most you can do very well with great IQ, skill and pace.

Yes he does not push the ball like mcw or a speed player, but mcw also turned the ball over a ton and had a lot of trouble managing the pass/score decision. Ennis turns the ball over just once per game. He is 12 games into his career as he continues to adjust to the speed of the game I expect he will be much more adept in exploting push opportunities. I already considerable improvement in this area since the first few games. He does not look to create advantages with the push, he prefers to allow the play to develop in front of him then he takes what the defense gives him. I agree that he does not do a good job at this aspect of the game and I would also like to see him do a better job of post entry, but he is 12 games in.

He is shooting 40% but he is also shooting 40% from three and again he is 12 games in. MCW was a sophmore with size and athleticism and he shot 40%. He will likely finish the season over 45%. He put up 20ppg @ 47% at U19. He is legit and his game will translate. Likely not an all star PG but a starter by age 26 and a very productive nba career and national team career.

Ennis needs to stay.. most PG’s have to develop their IQs before they are ready to go to the league, coaches dont have paitence for players that cant grasp the speed of the game right away and that holds true for the extention of the coach at PG if he was benched it could poison his potential.. Kyrie had a supreme basketball iq the moment he walked onto dukes campus, the same cant be said about Rose or Marbury.. Ennis  has a great feel for the game but hes not the type of player that can be a one and done and make an impact in the league right away.

Why would he need to make an impact right away. Most important factor in deciding to declare is where you might be picked. If he’s graded top 15, the chances he declares will be greatly increased.
