I honestly think the Pistons should’ve took Trey Burke….I have no faith in Brandon Knight as a point guard, and the Pistons will have regrets…Burke I feel will be Rookie of the Year….I feel the Jazz & Timberwolves had some real good picks

You can make an argument that Burke is better prospect than Knight is, but can you say Burke is better prospect than Pope? Maybe they took the better prospect of the two, which at the same time gives Knight another shot at proving himself.

The Pistons have tried AI/Stuckley and Knight at PG since they traded Billups and had never found the right replacement until they got Calderon last year. They moved Gordon on and there were rumours that Stuckley might be on the block across the last couple of years and certainly he is behind Knight in the pecking order now.

Taking KCP would indicate they will be looking to move Knight back over to PG in due course I would assume, they might decide to try and resign Calderon and let him run the point for a couple more years and perhaps use KCP as a scorer off the bench. Given they have a young roster, they could retain Calderon as an experienced head, maybe move on Stuckley and use a 3 man back court roster of Calderon, Knight and KCP.

As regards Knight being an NBA PG, I agree the jury is still out but he can be given time to develop.

When McLemore started falling in the draft, I could have imagined Joe Dumars sat there rubbing his hands thinking another good prospect will fall to me.

Alot of people in Michigan were disappointed when they didnt select Burke…But I think the Pistons want to bring back Calderon..He made 11 million last year, but i doubt he’ll get that this summer from anyone…..They were impressed with the way the team played after they got him…

kcp is a solid almost safe pick for detroit. i like trey burke but im not sure of how effective he wouldve been with the pistons. i imagine that if detroit picked him that he and knight would have started together. thats a backcourt that consists of a 6″ point gaurd and a 6″2 shooting gaurd. I cant see that working in todays Nba. Pope is a hard worker, solid 3 point shooter, has good size and hes athletic. I also believe this choice was made to give the Pistons one last look at Knight running the point for them. Why take a chance on a point guard this year when the 2014 draft is going to have atleast 2 all-star calibur players avail at the same postition (Drew Harrison and Marcus Smartacus). Give Knight one more shot, let Kentavious, Monroe and Drummond continue to develop and then use what should be another lottery pick in the 14 draft to pick your floor general of the future if Knight doesnt pan out.

Peyton Siva would be the way to go. A legit floor general with KCP at the 2. Then Knight off the bench or as he
    third guard in small lineups.

That should be a good three guard rotation right there.

I forgot to add earlier I wonder if they did go with KCP as he could also play some SF if required as he is a developing defender and has a 6ft 8ins wingspan.

This coming season will be an interesting one for Detroit, I’d figure they may well still be below .500 next season but with teams like Boston blowing it up, the Bucks perhaps losing key players, Philly having traded their best player then we could see Detroit maybe sneak 8th seed out East. That would be the bonus as the key thing is development, Monroe should improve again as should Knight and we have only just scratched the surface with Drummond I personally feel.
