Will Lin break the NBA record?

Currently has 8 turnovers at the half, on track to beating/equaling the 14 turnover NBA record held by John Drew and Jason Kidd.

Man I knew the kid was good, but being on track to beating the NBA record already. Pretty impressive stuff right there.

 All you need to know about the turnover record is that Jason Kidd has it.

This is a quote from ESPN that I think sums it up pretty well as to why Lin almost set a record he did not want to set: "The Hornets were extremely physical with Lin all night; Greivis Vasquez and Jarrett Jack did a good job slowing Lin." Correct me if I’m wrong but Vasquez is like 6’6 and Lin is 6’3. Anytime you put a 6’6(or bigger) PG on a 6’3(or smaller) PG, it means hell for the smaller guard, because they go all night long against a guy who is bigger and most likely stronger than him.

Also this is typical of Mike D’antoni’s offense. He lets a lot of things slide. He allows so much freedom with his players (especially his guards) that mistakes and horrible defense are bound to happen. But I wouldn’t look much into this because the Hornets knew that Lin was the guy they had to stop and so they focused all of their attention on him. Pretty soon both Amare and Melo will be fully healthy and ready to go. Pretty soon teams will have to spend a lot more time focusing their attention on Melo and Amare so they will "forget" about Lin. Watch out because that is when Lin and Nash will start to look very similar in their styles of play. I am not trying to make a comparison here just saying that D’antoni has the ability to make a pure point guard look like a future hall of famer (even when that pure point guard is not even close to doing so) And not to mention by the time Amare and Melo are healthy, JR Smith will be on the team (and probably starting too). I’d say this will happen by early next week. So like I said, I would not look much into today’s forgetful night, because we are in for in a wild ride.

 So you’re saying Lin almost set a record for turnovers because Greivez Vasquez was guarding him?  What?!?  The same Vasquez who has the foot speed of Brook Lopez?  And Lin is probably stronger then Vasquez and he’s a hell of a lot quicker.

But this is D’Antoni’s offense he let’s players play through their mistakes I wish more coaches did this.

He gets a lot of turnovers in bunches too for some reason.

Definitely needs to cut down on turnovers though.

With Mello coming back he won’t be dominating the ball as much.

2nd half was a lot better, his jumper looked good, 4 steals and 8 of 10 free throws were also pretty good.

Knicks blew the game missing free throws and shooting 4 of 24 on 3’s.

Fields, Walker, Novak shooting 4-22 overall really hurt too.

 Yeah, I think Novak missed a stretch of shots that he normaly doesn’t. I thought the Knicks were going to steal that one even though the ball was bouncing the wrong way for them all night. 

The turnovers are going to be there in this offense asking Lin to basically initiate nearly every play. Nash averaged around 3.5 turnovers a game in his two MVP years. And Nash had been in the league for about 8 years at that point. Then his turnovers went up to about 4 a game. The Knicks are basically asking Lin to do as much as Nash does and do it as a rookie.

Lin has been very turnover prone in his time as a starter. It’s been overlooked since the Knicks have been winning. As soon as they lose one everyone jumps on him and says the reason is because of his TOs, but forgets about the fact that the rest of the team shot like garbage.

 If you pass the ball a lot, some are bound to get picked.  He doesn’t seem to make many dangerous/low percentage passes so will probably be fine and improve as he gets more experience with these specific players.

 They are basically asking him to score like Derrick Rose and set up his teammates like Steve Nash. Derrick Rose averaged 3.5 turnovers last year and so basically did Nash during his two MVP seasons. That is the last three point guard MVPs. So people have to keep in mind that 3.5 turnovers seems to be kind of the floor for MVP pointguards. So Lin is at about 5 a game during this stretch. Obviously worse, but not that much worse THAN MVPS!!!

He will get better but as long as they keep asking him to basically drive into the teeth of the defense on nearly every other possession, he is going to have a lot of turnovers.

yeah the to’s come with constantly having the ball in your hand …

his effeciency can improve with expierence….cause its one thing to average 3.5 and another to average over 7 a game..

 For as good as he’s been, I think he really needs to work on his passing skills out of the pick and roll. Alot.

He is a terror in the pick and roll when he has his mind on scoring once he turns the corner off the hedge, but his turnovers are more often than not when he tries to pass in the pick and roll. It is something that should get better, but his TO’s have been a problem, a serious problem if he doesn’t correct them. Teams are starting to get more of a scouting report on him and it could hinder him alot more if he doesn’t correct it sooner as opposed to later.
