therealbballerParticipantMy question is if you guys think that D’angelo Russel will brake out this year? The black mamba is gone and the reigns to the Purple and gold are up for grabs. I belive that he will improve a lot both in PPG and APG as he will have more responsibilities than he used to. What do you think?

BallerScriptParticipantI think 17.2 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 4.9 APG

Hype MachineI gotta go with no.
I like Brandon Ingram as the Lakers cornerstone All Star.
D’angelo hasnt got the tools, nor the mentality to succeed at NBA level. Im not a fan at all.

theballerwayParticipantgo with yes. Breakout might be a strong term as people expectations might vary with the use of that word. I think he has the tools indeed. Now again Im not saying hes going to take over the world but I think he will be able to show more of his abilities this year with the new coach and teamates. This is a totally differentyear and he has a years experience under his belt. He will always be an above average passer and a capable shooter from distance its the defense that worries me long term if anything.
Just dont tell him any secrets…………..

Andrew1984ParticipantHe’ll only brake out if the rotors and pads function correctly.

Jaymes BrownParticipantI’ve watched a lot of video from Lakers camp, and Russell’s body language still reads like lazy kid stuck in detention, not team leader invested in busting his butt for the team all season.
Russell still doesn’t practice his footwork when shooting jumpers, so he’s often off-balance and too upright when practicing his shooting. Meanwhile, all his teammates are spacing their feet at least shoulder width apart, bending their knees, and making sure their balance is great every shot.
If you think Walton is just going to coddle Russell like Scott coddled Kobe that last year, you’re mistaken. Russell is either going to play the right way, all the time, or his minutes will be limited.

Magic JordanParticipantHeyyyy welcome back!! I was wondering if you would ever show up again. A Russell bashing post and Rozier praising post from the same account. That can only be one man! I’ve missed you.
Anyways…
I’m seeing Russell with averages of about 19 ppg, 5 rpg, 5 apg and 2 spg…. book it. And when he puts up those numbers as a 20 year old sophomore… it will only make people like you and hype hate his body language even more.

Hype MachineLol if he gets those stats, I’ll admit that his laconic playing style had me fooled the whole time.

Magic JordanParticipantWhaaat man, you can do better than that. How about a pizza?!?!

Hype MachineLol, having watched a few seasons of the Biggest Loser, I’ve developed a rough understanding of regional cuisines throughout the US.
So if D’Lo averages those stats, its Orange Chicken from Panda Express and Monster Energy drinks for all my people in L.A.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI think he’ll improve. He will have the ball in his hands a lot and the offense will be centered around his playmaking ability. His assist numbers should definitely increase and I think we’ll get a better sense of exactly what he is, a true pg or a sg who will handle the ball a lot (ala harden). I’d like to see him improve defensively as well. There will still be some struggles, as he is an extremely young player playing with a mostly young and inexperienced roster. I think we’ll see improvement, but he might not really "break out" for another year or 2.

BeastMode716ParticipantWe’ll see what happens. He looked great in summer league but I still have fears.
We Need him to step up & grow into a star level player.

MatosParticipantDont like his game and movement at all. His form is attrocious and he moves like he’s super lazy. Can’t see him being an all-star unless he switches it up heavy.

Jaymes BrownParticipantHe’ll be a great spark plug in the Nick Young mold in a couple years when he grows up to college freshman level maturity. Until then, he’s a me-first point guard who nobody wants to follow. He’ll be a streaky shooter until he really gets serious about his craft and his footwork and balance.
As far as him getting into the paint, I heard it happened a few times last year. Mostly in garbage minutes against the 76ers.

MopgrassParticipantWhen he plays his style and not Byron Scott’s, it’s way less disciplined, but way better. I think he is a hard worker, but a bad listener. He’ll likely work hard on the things he thinks are important and ignore a lot of suggestions. I expect a very high level of play in 2-3 years.
