Wiggins -Pros- elite in transition/ likes to play defense/can make shots

Cons- at times fades/needs more consistency in creating for others

Parker -Pros- pretty good in transition/ offensively best rounded wing in college basketball/ alpha dog mentaliy throut the whole game

Cons  bad defender/ shot selection a little shaky but its college and he the best player on his team/needs more consistency in creating for others

What the other does better—Wiggins is said he might be to small to play the 3 in the nba, but versus parker i would bet on wiggins. Parker has greatly benefited from playing the 4 in college. We all know most of today’s college 4 men dont have offensive game. So Parker can go at them with quickness on offense and relax on defense, and ,wow, did Slo-Mo show us what his defense is truly like all the time if he gurads another guy his size. He cant stop them at all. Wiggins might be frail but im telling you he can play defense.

Parker passing is also shaky. Between the 2 this season the passing advantage i heard about in high school for parker hasnt been made evident for me  over wiggins so far. Also Wiggins has shown he can score if need be. Yes Parker is more willing to score, but he hasnt shown me that he is a better scorer.

Also look at the difference in teams. Duke has 5 guys in the regular rotation who have been in college ball atleast 3 years and really get it. Kansas has 3 and traylor is a very young redshirt sophmore at that. Duke has adecent nba prospect pg in Cook and a back-up pg in thorton who have more grace and wisdom to their game than the combo of pgs that wiggins plays with. Seriously, who can get 20pts a game out there with Mason flailing into every lay up. Just saying i think aside from Parker’s aggressiveness to score the decision seems a little harder to me.

Wiggins has not amounted to the expectations OTHERS placed on him, but he is essentially doing what he did as a 15 yr old playing on Canada’s U18 team with some very good talent on it, and essentially is be a role player so good that he gets his when he needs too. When Kansas plays there best and dominates, he usually has 12-15ish but when the team is underperforming he has his higher numbers. Defensively he has done his part shutting down scorers — Jabari in the 2nd half, Casey Prather, and the dude from Toledo, from the games I watched.

Jabari has looked nice as the focal piece to his offence, but Im not sold on his ability to share the spotlight with these ball dominant point/combo guards the league is littered with. Yes he has nice finishing explosiveness and straightline speed, but i dont see him exploding passed NBA defenders on off ball cuts/movement to often. Could lead to being iso oriented as a player which can limit other players around you.

I can see these ball dominant guards being very succesful with Wiggins in the same way Lance Stephensen has with Paul George, as regardless of statistical output, when surrounded with good players, I find Wiggins more conducive to winning than parker.

First, credit to Lindsey. That’s a solid breakdown. Back to topic. Wiggins has played very well. He is not an alpha dog player and he may not ever be. He is a good defender and projects to be an elite defender. His athleticism dwarfs his skillset now, but he does have a few go-to moves that look good and his shot is actually pretty good. Here’s how I would break it down, based on the dozen games cumulatively that I have seen from both Jabari Parker and Andrew Wiggins. Disclaimer: This is from the perspective of a slightly-more-than-casual NCAA fan, not an expert.

      PROS

Parker – Offense versatility, consistent, great basketball IQ, prototypical size, good rebounder and leadership

Wiggins – Athletic, explosive, defensive stalwart, ridiculous motor when he gets going, unselfish and incredible length,

      CONS

Parker – Not an elite athlete, sub-par lateral quickness (he is rarely out of position on defense though)

Wiggins – Not a take-over guy yet, questionnable decision maker, doesn’t assert himself often enough

I really wonder how effective of a defender Jabari will be at the next level, because he is a tweener on defense. Although I have little doubt he he can be a bigger SF who can play some stretch 4 like Melo on offense. I think Jabari will give you 15+ his first year in the league, he has a mature, polished game, and from an offensive standpoint is ready to make the jump…well…now.

Wiggins, on the other hand, isn’t as polished, and is at 6’8” 200 lbs with a 7′ wingspan could be a great size for a SF at the next level with a year or two in the weight room. He’ll probably be 220-225 when all is said and done, and that is a nice size for an NBA 3. If he plays a little shooting guard until then, so be it. I think he can guard the 2 and 3 in the pros.

No way around that Jabari is a better scorer, and I’d absolutely bet on him scoring more as a rookie, but Wiggins is more of a two way player, and he has been improving. Both players have a lot to offer, and are getting better as they continue to adjust to NCAA competition. I honestly don’t know if there is a clear front runner at this point, and I don’t think either will bust. I think they’ll both be All-Star level players, just very different.

Parker was more ready out of the gate, but the last 5 games as Wiggins as picked up a bit, they’re stats aren’t that far off. Each went for 20+ 3 times and two games in the teens. Duke played NCAA tournament caliber teams UCLA and Michigan along with Elon, Eastern Michigan and Garnder-Webb.  Kansas played Colorado, Florida, New Mexico Gerogetown, and Toldeo who all project as NCAA tournament teams.

    Jabari Parker – 18.8 ppg 8 rpg 1.6 apg .6 bpg .8 spg 48/37/78

    Andrew Wiggins – 18.2 ppg 5.2 rpg 1.4 apg 1.4 bpg .6 spg on 44/35/90

To see that Wiggins is making 90% of his FT in the past five games (76% on the season) is encouraging. Right now his game in the half-court is all about moving the ball efficiently around the perimeter, making the entry pass to Ellis or Embiid, taking the three when he’s open, and driving to the hoop when it’s there. He plays his role simply, intelligently, and effectively. Last night he seemed more assertive with ball in his hands (another good sign), and while his jumper wasn’t falling, his stroke looked pure, especially at the free throw line. He’s definitely improving. Wiggins will score a lot of points in the NBA if he gets a little stronger, because he’ll get to the line, and based on what I’m seeing with his FT stroke, he’ll make a lot of freebies.

A big factor in Wiggins’ up and down play IMO is that he doesn’t have a good point guard setting him up.

Next year, if he is drafted by the Sixers for example and he plays with MCW I think that he will improve quickly.

That might be the worst assesment of those 2 players i have seen on this site. You are clearly bias. Parkers offense and Playmaking ability for himself or teamates is years adhead of Wiggins. Parkers defense is weak but Wiggins as a great defender is over stated, Who has he locked down this year? and when has he changed a game with his defense? Nobody and never. He has the physical potential but he is not there yet, people are just repeating what they read and are not analyzing the games. At this point Parker has more tools in the box, but is suspect against defender the post, haven’t had to see much perimeter defense yet. Wiggins is a good finisher and a solid perimeter defender who hasn’t had to defend the post yet.  I kind of know what I will get with Parker but I’m not sure if wiggins will achieve his potential due to his mental approach towards the game

I feel you avsdirk. I’m not sure why people on this site take it so personal when anyone says anything negative about Wiggins. A lot of people are basing their opinions of Wiggins on what they think he will become while with Parker you can pretty much see it right now. Parker is a god sized 6’8 natural scorer. Those type of guys don’t come around very often. People knock Parker’s athleticism but when you can shoot like him from anywhere on the court you don’t need to be a super athlete. I do believe Wiggins game is better suited for the NBA than college but his game has more question marks to me. Wiggins is a awesome slasher and athlete but his perimeter game isn’t there yet and you never know when or if a slasher type players shot will develop. Whichever teams get either one of these guys I’m sure they will be happy. They both have their own unique strengths and weaknesses but I just think overall Parker will have the better NBA career of the two.

To answer your question who has he shut down. He took Casey Pratehr completely out the game against Florida and made Jababri obselete in the second half against Duke.

Casey Prather is the dude putting up 19 PPG, 6 RPG, on almost 60% FG at Florida at the SF. On ESPN, he is the 5th highest person on the Wooden Watch. Right now he’s a favorite for SEC player of the year, It’ll be interesting to see if he can keep putting up theese stats when Chris Walker comes in, the highly touted freshman who had some grade troubles, but is about to play his first game. And Casey Prather has never played Jabari Parker……

His comment about Jabari was saying that WIGGINS never defended Parker.  But regardless, he’s wrong.  Wiggins was on Parker a lot in the second half and Parker went something like 2/8 with Wiggins guarding him with a couple of turnovers.

At this point it isn’t just an argument between Wiggins and Parker anymore, it is all between Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Joel Embiid, and Julius Randle

Between the four, the most potential from most to least

Joel Embiid – comparison "The Dream", although stock hurt by how Hasheem Thabeet turned out.

Andrew Wiggins – comparison is Paul George

Jabari Parker – comparison is Carmelo Anthony (I personally think he is a better defended and teammate than melo)

Julius Randle – Don’t have a great Randle comparison at this point. Uses his strength to beat up and finish over defenders, Maybe a slightly better version of Zach Randolph?

Between the four the most sure thing from most to least

Jabari Parker, Julius Randle, Andrew Wiggins, and Joel Embiid

*I personally think that the first overall pick will go to Jabari Parker, because if your the GM in this draft and miss with that pick, your going to be fired it’s as simple as that. For the same reason I see almost no chance for Joel Embiid to go No. 1 but I could see him going 2nd.

That’s where the comparisons stop. Embiid has much greater mobility, athleticsm, shooting touch, and footwork than Thabeet. Thabeet was a stiff by all accounts. He has the most upside of anyone. How could any GM pass on a potentially dominant 2-way player from the post.

Look how Roy Hibbert ad Marc Gasol affect games last year. Having a dominant defensive big in the middle can be the difference in the NBA.

As awesome as Lebron and Wade are there games adrastically different when Roy Hibbert is in the game and he’s no where near as mobile as Embiid is now. I think around the time draft rolls around he’ll be the No.1 pick if he chooses to go.

Jabari Parker probably won’t be the first pick just based off his defensive abilities. As awesome as his ability to score is there are a lot of player in the NBA who can score. Jamal Crawford is an elite scorer in the NBA but he can’t defend to save his life. The way the league is trending you need to be able to shoot threes and defend. Parker can shoot 3’s but he can’t defend at an NBA level at this point. I know everybody has beaten the Carmelo comparisons to death but they are eerily similar with Melo having the edge on quickness and Parker having the edge on playmaking for teammates.

You take Wiggins ahead because of his athleticism on defensive and the fact that he seems to like playing defense. He doesn’t have the offensive imagination that may be needed to dominate an NBA at this point but allhe has to do is get to a point where he can be passable on that end. Depending on who Wiggins goes to they will develop him into a steady passer and ball handler.

At this point I’d Take Embiid 1 Wiggins 2 Smart 3 Parker 4 and Randle 5

Seeing how Oden and Durant ended up.

    Darko and Melo ended.

Would you take Embiid over someone you know is a sure bet like Jabari?

I’m all for upside and such, but sometimes the reward isn’t that big.  I think you have to take the more NBA ready player that has potential to get better.   Especially with a player like Jabari who is a great kid and has gotten better every year.   I REALLY like Embiid’s game, but I wouldn’t pick him over Jabari.  You know this kid going to be an All-Star…

If you look at Jabari Parker’s laspes on defense is majority mental lapses.   Not being too slow to stay with players.   This is the NBA, every superstar is able to score on good defenders.   I always find it funny that people claim how good of a defender Shane Battier is.  All he does is make it tough for players, Melo and them still score 30 points on him.   With the hand checking rule, you simply won’t be able to lock down any superstar player by yourself.   And postioning can be learned.  Durant wasn’t a great on ball defender, Kyrie and Stephen Curry doesn’t play against other superstars on defense.   What’s the big deal?

Did I see Smart ahead of Jabari???  Lord have mercy….
