With the end of the regular season or the basketball season as it is known in New York, I always wonder why is there the need to wait a month until you do the lottery.

With the play offs starting, it could be done on one of the off days between end of regular season and today. The NCAA season has finished, those who are declaring are finalising their plans and getting the lottery done would enable all the lottery teams in particlar to clearly know where they are picking and what their draft status is.

Lakers, Philly, Sacramento, NOP all have a lot riding on the lottery regarding if they keep picks or move up or down. Even Boston would surely like to know where in top 4 they pick as pick could come into play or not.

Plus with likes of Lakers potentially in or out of draft prospects could have one eye on LA but then find out Lakers don’t have pick. Getting lottery done clears that all up.

Plus it would give teams more time to workout players and really look at them.

I have no idea and always wondered the same thing, but if I am gonna guess I think it will be in order no player decide to put his name only if a certain team won the lottery?
Although even that doesn’t make much sense, would like to read what others would say

Simple, it’s like a cliffhanger. It’s how you keep people interested in your seasonal product all year long. A little taste to stay relevant.

Each city makes secret negotiations to get the special ping pong ball to bounce their way.  Big markets usually have the biggest pull
