I believe the Celtics will draft Joel Embiid and will trade Rondo now because they will go 100% REBUILD mode….things have changed in Celtic land due to this recent injury news !!!

Joel Embiid is NOT Yao Ming , Bill Walton, Big Z or Greg Oden..each Medical situation is UNIQUE !

Yao Ming was a 340 pound guy with heavy legs , very fundamentally skilled but not athletic !

Bill Walton played 30 years ago when medicine was not as evolved as today

Big Z was a 7’3 uncoordinated guy that also started his career over 15 years ago when medicine advances were not where they are today

Greg Oden also had a leg that was bigger than the other and had a body plagued mostly with KNEE injuries..

I am not a Doctor of course but i am a person that at least understands that every situation is different….I don’t believe what most ppl say here..that his body can’t hold up…i don’t believe that he is injury prone because not even Doctor’s can know that only God knows..

What i do believe is that Cavs will pass on him cause they are scared…and so are the Bucks…Sixers have Noel so no need to risk it here since they already waited 1 year for Noel, I have no idea why the Magic are poking around since they already have a promising center in Vucevic…Utah has 2 big guys Favors and Kanter…so that leaves the Celtics who are not AFRAID of taking risks…

Danny Ainge has always been a gutsy and ballsy guy…ever since he fought the 7 foot 1 Tree Rollins 35 years ago…He understands that Embiid ceiling of being a 20 and 10 guy with shot blocking capabilites/rim protection is HUGE !! And worth the risk…If it doesn’t work out..SO WHAT he has a ton of other picks and with the NETS in total disarray with OLD guys like KG, Pierce, Joe Johnson and AK47…those picks will be very valuable down the road…

Celtics have a chance of being loaded in 1 or 2 years here with unbelievable talent…Rondo will probably go to the Kings for the 8th pick so i can see Ainge getting either Dario or McBuckets..to pair with Embiid and maybe Shabaaz Napier at 17 whom i absolutely love that kid…

I think they could take him and probably should if he falls to them.

I don’t think the celtics touch him I was watching numbers don’t lie on espn they said what I though he slips to late in the lotto. brook lopez slipped to ten with no big injurys and he was a top 3 pick at one point.
Drummond was highly touted and went 9th with a back injury and a ok season.

I think he slips and a team with less pressure drafts him and correct he isn’t 300 plus pounds.
I don’t like the fact he has been injured so much in so short of time.

Noel had a torn ACL which requires 12 months recovery…and Noel is a skinny, one dimensional Defensive center wit no where near the all arond talent that Embiid has so no way he falls past the Celtics…i respecfully disagree

Lopez was was selected at 10 because he was slow and wasn’t a good rebounder for 7 feet. Drummond slipped because he had a dissapointing season, didn’t have much of an impact on his team, and his team in general dissapointed, no back injury to speak of before the draft. So basically everything you said was wrong

the Sixers should just take Embiid @ 3. Nothing has changed, there is still no reason to over-think the draft.

Do you realize that they have a 7’0 230 guy called Nerlens Noel ????? Why the heck would they wait another year for a guy that plays the exact position when they have a huge need at PF where Randle and Vonleh can fill that role for the next 10 years ???? u make no sense…

How can you say nothing has changed? A guy who already had injury concerns is found to have another serious injury.

are in position to draft high upside. There is no pressure to win for 2-3 years. If both Noel and Embiid work out they will be in a GREAT spot.

If he embiid is on the board at ten and we haven’t traded sixers take him no question.
what if joel and noel both pan out and I have seen noel he has worked on his shot a lot pre game warm ups he looks good.

I think we took a risk on noel because we have seen players come back from acl tears and its not as scary in bigs as it is in explosive players or guards(rose) he was number 1 at one point.

Embiid is a little different no acl tear he just fell to the ground with a back problem then word is he has a foot injury im saying theirs a lot of talent of the board this isn’t last years draft lol do you pass on that and risk it? last year draft wasn’t as strong as this one so the sixers just took the deal and started a rebuild.
he has a chance to get hurt , bust , be a good player . to many variables pointing the wrong way when Boston can draft another nice player
but I disagree and you make a good points EA

I do agree that all injury situations are different and unique but all the centers you named were way more advanced and played way more basketball than Embiid . He’s only been playing basketball for three years and he’s already had two serious injuries in the last six months. Embiid may become the next best center but your asking teams to draft a guy high in a deep draft and who was already considered a project when he was healthy.

I’m not sure of the whole regret thing. Pretty much all year long it was a 3 man race. Right now teams that have a shot at the other two probably look at the injury as enough of a difference to pick one of the others. I think most people agree that Parker is going to be able to step in and score at an NBA level and Wiggins is a risk in his own right, but he has a ton of real talent and untapped potential. Worst case he is a really nice defensive role player that can occassionally step up and score.

I would have a hard time picking some of the other guys after Embiid though. Most of these lottery teams will still be trash next year so there is no need to be impatient and while some of these guys look like really nice role players, there is a point where I think the talent and potential are going to outweigh the risks. Worst case scenario you end up with a failed pick that does nothing during his 2 years of guaranteed contract and two option years. It sucks, but I have seen much worse picks with no upside or game changing skills (like Sheldon Williams).

ealwaysright, you do have a point. I think he has a chance to be special, I wouldn’t mind if the cavs take a risk on him with the number 1 pick if they think he’ll recover.

Every injury is unique, BUT the bone he injured in his foot is extremely tricky. The fact he needed surgery means it was severely displaced/broken.

If the screws inserted hold and his fracture heals right, then he could be just fine. But if it doesn’t, he could have to go back under the knife again and his career could be full of problems.

Whatever team drafts him should be prepared to sit him for the year IF need be so his foot/fracture can heal properly.

You don’t believe he is injury prone, but he broke his back and foot in one year. Also his HS coach saying he had back issues in HS. He is around 255 7ft right now, and judging his body type and shoulders he’ll gain atleast 20lbs when he fully matures. I hope he becomes good and healthy, but everything you have said is a lot of wishful thinking. It’s seems like a 50/50 chance is at best with 7fters regardless of weight and athleticism.

Gaining 20 lbs isn’t going to help…   That will have the opposite effect….
