Why are the Celtics in a rush to trade Rondo as if they could get more for him now than in the off season. All they can get now is a slightly better pick than they will have now because they will lose more games this year, all things being equal. Whatever they can get now will still be there in off season. In the off season they can trade him for Austin Rivers and a bad contract. If Rivers will go between 5 (assuming a Curry/Ferdette style tourny run) and 15 if he comes out this year. In what draft over the last 8 years could Rondo not be traded for a 10th pick in the draft? Rondo is still young enough to help a young up and coming team.

    ………………….Hell no.

Trade one of the best point guards in the NBA for a tweener that is a big question mark? AND a bad contract?

I’m one of the biggest Duke fans and Rivers homers on this site, but I’m also a Celtics fan and I’d be furious if they did that trade.

Hell I don’t even think Rivers is ready to leave this season.

They could still trade one of their players for a higher pick, but it better not be spent on Rivers.

Also, playing for your father in a professional sport is about the worst idea ever.

Obviously all eyes are going to be on teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder to start the 2012-13 NBA season, but there are plenty of other teams worth keeping an eye on as well.  There’s an abundance of teams hovering under the radar and several prospective postseason squads ready to make a move.

As he continues to build up his strength, Horford is now working with a new strength and conditioning coach, as the Hawks hired Jeff Watkinson in the offseason. For the previous two seasons, Watkinson owned his own business that helped the physical training, development and conditioning of NBA players. He also had previously worked at Indiana University and a number of other Division I schools.

Aldridge is coming off offseason surgery to repair a slight labral tear in his right hip, a procedure he said was proactive. While he was a finalist for the U.S. Olympic team, Aldridge’s recovery prevented him from earning a spot on the squad that won the gold medal in London.

While Evans waits for his next contract, he continues his work with the union and NBPA Executive Director Billy Hunter. Evans is implementing new programs that will prepare players for life after basketball. Many players retire and are unable to adjust to their new lives. They’ve been away from their families for so long that they struggle in their role as husband and father. They’ve never had any business training so they make poor financial decisions. The NBPA is putting programs in place to help players get their lives together away from the court, starting while they’re in the league and continuing once they retire.

Unfortunately, before Wall and Beal could take their marks, the former sustained a stress injury in his right knee, which means the Wizards will be without their “backcourt of the future” when the season opens in early November. Wall hopes to be back soon thereafter, but in the meantime, Beal is being asked to develop into a professional without the aid of Wall.

“Great player; I like him,” Johnson said. “Obviously a great shooter, a guy who I think probably can create a little more off the dribble than he did, but, right now, he’s got a little learning curve and he’ll be ok.”

Now, the lockout is a distant memory, but Evans’ patience is being tested once again. This time, the waiting game is free agency. The regular season will get underway in two weeks, but the 33-year-old guard remains unsigned. Several teams have tried to sign Evans to a non-guaranteed deal, but the veteran has no interest in signing a make-good contract at this point in his career.

Evans is remaining patient and waiting for the right opportunity to present itself. His future is up in the air, but he’s confident that he’ll eventually sign a guaranteed contract and help a team.

Olshey went to work right away preparing for the NBA draft, and went on to land guards Damian Lillard and Will Barton and center Meyers Leonard. Olshey also won a chess match with Minnesota to keep Batum, who was a restricted free agent.

Both as a man and as a player, Nash’s contributions to the Phoenix Suns organization over the last eight seasons may never be duplicated.

That’s the somber truth for returning Suns point guard Goran Dragic as it’s going to be nearly impossible to replace Nash, who was not only an exceptional player but also a Phoenix fan favorite.

It wasn’t that the Washington Wizards needed more depth in the backcourt. If nothing else, the team already had lightening-fast point guard John Wall — the top pick of the 2010 NBA Draft — and athletic shooting guard Jordan Crawford.

Now fully healed, Aldridge led team workouts in September at the Blazers’ Tualatin practice facility before the start of fall camp. The idea was to get to know the newcomers – especially Lillard.

Another key aspect working is Dragic’s favor is exactly what Coach Gentry mentioned above: his relationship with Nash. For nearly three of four years that Dragic has been in the league, he was Nash’s backup at the point guard position. During his first stint in Phoenix, he did his best to soak up everything he could from the former back-to-back NBA MVP. Now, with the starting spot his to lose, Dragic returns hungrier than ever.

He went on to play 13 years in the NBA, earning every day he spent in the league after going undrafted and playing in the CBA. Ollie played for 11 different teams, but impressed up until the very end of his career in 2010 with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“I think so, his family is here, they’ve engrained themselves into the community, the schools and things like that,” Gentry said. “He’s one of those guys, and we’ve talked about this, he loved Houston and he loved being there. But he’s here now and I think he’s got everything invested in the Phoenix Suns, the Phoenix area, the community, the schools and everything. That’s kind of who he is, I think.”

There are a flurry of questions in the minds of NBA fans in the wake of Saturday night’s blockbuster trade between the Houston Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Did the Thunder take a step back? Is Houston a playoff team now? Did the Rockets give up too much? Did Oklahoma City get the best deal possible?
