I watched him play in college, and thought there were many players that I would consider better pros. Alex Len is thought by some to be the number 1 overall pick. Zellar, who actually performed well at a similar role, is projected to go outside of the top ten, even though he has shown many skills in workouts. In all honesty, If I were an NBA GM, I would consider Whitey and Iverson before Len. He has Myers Leornard written all over him

Because there isn’t a clear cut number one pick this year, and Len has about as much upside as anyone in the draft.

Is a very complete player. Good shooter, decent passer, he pops out and sets picks. He’s a very good player, but this is a good draft for centers. It should be interesting in how these players [an out

Is him looking like Meyers Leonard at all a negative at this point. Leonard’s been in the league 1 year and was hurt and lost minutes out to jj hickson who played very well this year. No one in this draft is considered a definite contributor right away. It’s all about potential. And I would argue, had Leonard gone back to Illinois for another year he would probably be in consideration for the #1 pick this year, all things considered. (Noel’s injury and mcLemores no show in a few tourney games.) Len is 7 foot and is athletic and looks to be able to develop some better post skills.

It’s a fair question you are asking. The deal is there are no sure things in this draft. The Cav’s are apparently trying to make certain they find a guy that can help them most with a lesser chnce of being a bust. Noel’s injuries apparently scare them.

In a draft where Williams talent shown him as clear cut number one the Cav’s followed the critics and chose Kyrie out of need rather than choose the hot guy now with both guys hurt they go after less hurt guy through critics say Noel has greater upside than Len who some say reminds them of illgauskus. Both players are hurt but I would still go with upside talent can’t see either having breakout years when both are kind of weak centers by NBA standards in a weak draft but would take Noel on strength that his defensive protential and agility scream star while Len’s is good college center so-so pro I guest we’ll see after draft but if Noel becomes star everyone envisions Cleveland would have made big mistake and look like the boobs who for the last three years could’nt rebuild a team that only lost one superstar and can’t win games because they can’t evaluate talent as Len was’nt top 5 as of two weeks ago

Questions. I have seen Len play his whole time at MD. He is a 2nd rd pick. He is and probably never will be strong enough or quick enough to defend or score in the NBA. Draft at your own peril.

I’ve seen him being compared to Jonas V, but honestly I see Andrew Bogut in his game

Andrew Bogut averaged 20 and 12 per game as a sophomore, and was an All-American who took his team to the Sweet Sixteen and won some of the national player of the year awards. Len had one 20 and 12 game in two years, and Maryland was just another middle of the road team that couldn’t win the NIT. Plus, Bogut was arguably one of the best two-way centers in the NBA prior to his elbow injury.

I’m not that low on Meyers Leonard, but it is funny, I actually compare Len to Leonard in my own notes (yes, I keep notes). I had him ranked 14th at the beginning of the year and thought I’d boost him if he gained weight. He’ll end up being tied for the 2nd heaviest guy in the draft. He’s got good energy and a decent shot.

I think Jeff Withey is ranked where he should be, but I thin Colton Iverson is quite underrated.

Nobody is out of play when the Cavs are on the board. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bazz and Adams are in consideration too.

I think there is no way he is 255lbs, I think he is one of the most overrated players in the draft.

I would rather have Noel or. Zeller

There really is no reason to be skeptical about his weight. He’s a legit 7’1 in shoes with a big frame and already some definition. Toughness in the paint could be a concern, but size shouldn’t be.

Because he’s a C. C’s are valued. C’s with 2 way potential are even more highly valued. He might not be the quickest guy, but he is fluid and coordinated, which stems from his gymnastics background, so he could become a passable help defender in the future..
He needs to get stronger, but he has a great starting point physically. He’s already 255, but has a big frame and could conceivably put on another 15-20 lbs, which would help him hold his position better (which is something he needs).
He’s big, long, skilled and smart. If you run down a checklist, he checks a lot of boxes. Assuming that CLE is wary of Noel’s injury and frame, who else could be the #1 pick? Porter? He’s a good player and a safe pick, but Len has more potential. Len just looks more like a #1 pick than Porter. If two players are held in a similar regard, it’s better to go with size IMO.

Um…what do you have against Meyers Leonard?? Meyers Leonard, who averaged 7.4 PPG and 12.5 PPG per 36 minutes after the All-Star break?

For me, it would be the 8-21 record Portland put up after the All-Star Break. The old Warriors strategy of trotting out Jeremy Tyler and losing so they could draft Harrison Barnes didn’t mean much for Tyler’s prospects going forward.

I don’t think Leonard is a terrible prospect, but he epitomizes the problem with this draft class of big men. If you take a guy who is not physically able to help you, and it leaves a hole on your roster that hurts your team, are you going to be as confident in them 12 months later? Portland has a huge hole in the middle. They are small and soft in the West, which gets them absolutely nowhere. It is a tough spot. Do they draft Len who is not bigger, stronger, athletic, or skilled than Leonard was last year? They same goes for Nogueira, Plumlee, or Adams. I think Olynyk showed more polish to his game, but he is a year older and even lighter than Leonard.
