valentineHas anyone else noticed that NBA broadcasting positions are completely monopolised by old dinosaurs.
What would be the harm in hiring some on-air talent that isn’t above retirement age. Plenty of them aren’t ex-players..so thats not it.
Hubie Brown, Doug Collins, Doris Burke, JVG, Marv Albert, Craig Sager, Dickie V….I could go on forever. These guys are so boring and out of touch with the younger generation.
Even the youngest broadcasters like Webber and Jalen Rose are still old enough to be most of the players fathers.
Is there a reason that someone in their 20’s or 30s couldnt get some air-time?
It would really add some life into a broadcasting style that is past its expiry date.

OnionsParticipantSeveral you mentioned have been doing their job for decades. Like since the 80s… Believe it or not, people age. They weren’t old when they started (or this old…).

BiggysmallsParticipantESPN’s college basketball actually has a lot of good analysts that aren’t older than sh it. Dicky V is horrible but Bilas, Dakich, Fraschilla, Jay Williams and several others do generally good work.
Bill Walton is old…but he’s the man so who cares.
I don’t really care if an analyst is young or old if they are good at articulating the game. I like to listen to the guys and see if I learn something from them.
Guys like Reggie Miller and Jalen Rose are crap because they try too hard to be "entertaining" outside of the context of basketball. They try too hard to come up with phrases and make it about them rather than the game too often.

ExumInfernoParticipantIt is probably good to have some knowledge among the commentators, can’t have someone who says "I am an expert although I am not old enough to remember Durant being drafted."

CynthiaParticipantThey’ve just been around for decades, and are household names. Personally I’d rather hear about the good ol’ days and vast amounts of experience from the older guys than listen to some college kid who doesn’t even know the NBA rules yet.

r377ParticipantIt is because we have the experience and the memories. We don’t get sucked in by all the hype like a lot of kids on here…
We remember Sam Bowie, injuries and draft mistakes. We take Durant over Oden. We don’t take Embiid or Nerlens Noel too high in the draft.
We don’t sign max contracts to players coming off big injuries. eg. Elton Brand and Amare.
We don’t get sucked in by high school hype come draft time. eg. Perry Jones, Josh Selby, Quincy Miller.
We can separate building a real championship team with intangibles in the real world, rather than building one on 2k with your playstation or Yahoo Fantasy League…
