The Scare Crow RisesParticipantI’m going to admit that I was a little upset at the mere thought of L.A, Boston or New York sneaking into the top 5 of this draft until I realized someone has to jump up on the night of the lottery and why not be the much hated Lakers.
I think they are the perfect team for Embiid to join, they have Kareem on speed dial and can develop him at their own pace ala Bynum…
Im starting to think L.A or Boston wins the First Overall Pick and the conspiracy theorist burn down the internet shortly after.
I still think 1-3 goes Embiid(L.A or Boston) Wiggins(Milwuakee) Parker(Philadelphia)

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantI think they sneak into the top 3. They are the worst team in the west. The nba needs a west team in the top 3. If I’m the lakers I take wiggins number 1. Embiid already is having back problems and I feel like wigs is can’t miss in the NBA.

Kinguy11ParticipantWell NY doesn’t have a draft pick because the Nuggets have it (unprotected) so I don’t think you have much to worry on that count. As for the Celtics and the Lakers, they have the 4th and 5th worst records in the NBA, there’s a good chance and least one, if not both will sneak into the lottery.
The fact is, the only thing so statistically unlikely to occur in the lottery that will make me believe the theories would be the Celtics and Lakers getting picks 1 and 2. Even then that occurance would be so unlikely that I doubt even the NBA would be that overt in their rigging attempts.

MopgrassParticipantIf they do rig, they wouldn’t need to do it too much. A top 5 pick might net you a superstar and the 5th pick could be better than the 1st (regardless of which guys go in those slots). Really, there’s no need to engineer.
Now, if they get the 9th or 10th pick, superstars will be hard to come by.

Lotto StudParticipantDon’t ridicule Adam Silver just yet. Let him get his 1 shot to win the lottery. This is a once in a lifetime chance for him to hit on his first ticket.

Hacker90ParticipantIf Lakers and Celtics got the 2nd and 3rd pick. Assuming Embiid would go first, then wiggins/Parker..it could be the next lakers/celtics player rivalry.

Lotto StudParticipantIf that were the situation I’d rather see Parker in Boston, although it would make more sense for him to be in LA because none of their wingmen are capable of getting them back to the top.

XYRYXParticipantNot sure about them winning the lotto but a selection around or slightly better than their record would surprise me very much Mr. Silver to give a small piece of redemption as a goodby present to the lakers after the CP3 fiasco 😉
But fun aside when was the last time the Lakers AND Celtics have both been this bad at the same time 1995-1996 ???

omphalosParticipantIf Embiid’s back problems are real then the Lakers might not need the 1st overall pick to get him.
I wouldn’t be too worried about his back problems though; look at Andre Drummond, he missed a chunk of his rookie year with back problems and hasn’t missed a beat this season.

XYRYXParticipantYep sliping is in a lot of cases a good thing for prospects. You can fly under the radar and come from behind and your contract might be slimmer but it gives your team time to bring you in with a very nice contract from salary view.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantI’d offer the pick, future picks, and whatever filler the Wolves want for Kevin Love.

Rip255No way a GM with a struggling team takes Embiid #1 in the draft based purely on upside when there is several can’t-miss prospects on the board. Taking him would ensure minimum 2-3 years more of losing while he develops. And if he isn’t an All-NBA talent, it could be a disaster of Darko Milicic proportions.
People say he’s only played a few years, isn’t close to his ceiling and he’s going to be the next Hakeem. Maybe they’re right, but put yourself in the shoes of a GM who NEEDS a sure-fire star. That is a huge gamble.
Embiid has the tools, but thats a long way short of having a better career than Wiggins, Parker, Randle and Exum in today’s NBA when all is said and done.

313LOUDParticipantThe 3rd and the 5th worst records are tied for the most #1 picks with 5 since 1990……..so it should be almost expected……IJS

R.JLewisParticipantif lakers dont get a top 3 pick they choose exum for his potential and the need for an athletic point gurad. if he busts it wouldnt be too bad for lakers because they are the most attractive franchise for free agents
