EndlessknightParticipantI know it’s still very early in the season but McDaniels has been playing more like a lottery pick then a 2nd rounder. I know many will dismiss he’s numbers because he’s playing on the Sixers but he play has legitimately been very good (by rookie standards).
He’s 4th in scoring, playing much fewer minutes then the guys in front of him, 2nd in FG%, while hitting a pretty consistent 3-ball. And he’s playing really good D (2nd in blocks)
Many mock drafts I saw had him going in the mid to late teens, anyone know why he dropped as far as he did?

RUDEBOY_Participantthe kid made a very wise move by signing for a 1 year deal..if he keeps playing this well ,he’s expected to get a nice contract next summer….

kdtriv01ParticipantLets be honest, KJ McDaniels is putting up decent numbers on a horrible team. Someone has to score. His mom needs to relax. If they weren’t tanking, his numbers would probably be a whole lot worse.

BubbaChuckParticipantGreat Brett Brown response though: "I told him my mom tweeted he didn’t box out on one of his rebounds."

prophetmeirParticipantI thought that OKC was going to draft him, he was the best player for clemson and often on the floor many times. The only thing i saw that he needed to change was keeping his handle more secure.

EndlessknightParticipantHis handle is still weak but his outside shot has been way better than I thought it would be. Plus his defence has been very good.

arowsky205ParticipantIt really makes no sense how he didn’t go in the first round. I had him ranked in my top 20. The team I’m most shocked didn’t take him (or Cleanthony Early) is the Clippers. They obviously needed another SF, and KJ would have been a perfect fit with his defense and glue-guy style. Instead, they picked another SG, even though they have plenty of those. I didn’t even have Wilcox in my top 40. Did they really draft him expecting he’d get any PT over Redick and Crawford? Now that Matt Barnes is underperforming I’m sure they’re kicking themselves for this one.

GBeeParticipantbecause he was a wing with weak ball skills and a questionable floor game. his handle is weak, doesnt have a good first step. shot 30% from 3 with a slow, deliberate, low release. could only shoot it with his feet completely set. he was also the man, but had a low ast rate, displaying a questionable IQ. his defense in college was pretty overrated as well. good in terms of shot-blocking because he’s a phenomenal vertical athlete who hunted blocks while also playing a lot on the interior with their lack of size, but his perimeter on-ball defense was actually pretty damn average. he’s a better vertical athlete than a quick athlete. his focus on that end also wavered.
also, as has been noted, it’s hard to put any stock in any numbers put up on that team outside of the efficiency stats. his 3pt% has been a surprise. we’ll see if that’s sustainable. i’m not a fan of his release. he still has a slow release and he doesnt have the quickness or ball skills to take advantage of hard close outs. right now, teams are packing it in vs the 6ers and giving them those outside shots, giving him time to get off his set shot.

barbabodomParticipantI thought he was going to Grizzlies, to learn from Tony Allen and maybe start at SF

HitsterParticipantI don’t see how his mum can moan if her lad is getting decent minutes, if he was stuck at the end of the bench playing a few mpg then he’d not be in a great situation. But with the team winless he’s getting decent minutes and is putting himself in the shop window for next year.
You could say he was a good pick up by Sam Hinkie but surely his ontract needed a team option for year two for if he did well they could pick it up easily. Now his value will be much higher although Philly have huge cap space to resign him.
