IndianaBasketballParticipantI was having a debate with my boys last night and heard some interesting responses lol. Who’d you rather have and why?
For the first question, you have two options:
1. Pay Kevin Love as your franchise/superstar player and build around him.
2. Pass on Kevin Love (hopefully wait for another franchise/superstar player) and go with Draymond Green as your "superstar" role player at a respectable contract.
What option would you choose if you were building a team from scratch?
—
Who would you rather build a franchise around? Russell Westbrook or John Wall?
Who’d you rather have in three years? Andrew Wiggins or Giannis Antetokounmpo?
Who’d you rather have right now. Jeff Teague or Kyrie Irving?

zcnumerounoParticipantTo me, Kevin Love has been exposed for what he really is — an inefficient stretch 4 & that he had the benefit of playing for a really bad team, which made him look a lot better.
I’m a Wisconsin fan, and I’ve always loved and respected Green’s game. He does nothing flashy, but he’ll be a very good player for a long time. He’s the glue guy that ever championship contender needs, so I’d go with Green.
It really depends on what you’d rather have — more of a "true" PG or a combo guard. I’d rather have John Wall run my offense & defense because he’s a more willing passer and a better defender, although Westbrook is a good defender in his own right.
Id rather have Giannis. He’s such a humble kid with potential to burn. 6’11" guys with potential to be plus shot blockers and be able to run your offense don’t grow on trees.

zcnumerounoParticipantI’d rather have Teague. Kyrie isn’t a leader and hasn’t proven he’s willing to take a back seat to better players. Teague is also the better defender and seems like he’s much easier to manage.

cheetosjalapeno17ParticipantI wouldn’t throw franchise money at kevin love, I would rather have Draymond at a reasonable price. Gives you 80% of what Love can do at like half the price. Also he plays better D and stuffs the stat sheet.
I freakin love Westbrook, but I would build my franchise around John Wall, he just sees the floor so well and just creates so much oppurtunities for his teammates. The thing he doesn’t have tho is Russell’s edge which is a double edged sword in imo, it can get him in and out of games. I would go with the safe bet here
Wiggins all day, I love me some greek freak but I believe that if Wiggins bulks up and tightens his handle he would be one of the better two way wings in the leauge today. I know Giannis has that crazy potential, but to me he’ll max out as a longer and taller Nicolas Batum. That may be scary, but I personally think Wiggins has a higher potential.
Kyrie, going the total opposite of the second question. I just find Teague so blah. I know he is a crazy good player, but I think (and I may be in the minority here) that given ample time and a little luck Irving might max out as one of the better second fiddles (next to Lebron of course) in a loooong time. Too much talent, and people may knock him, but he’s also having one heck of a season so far.
Just my two cents. Peace.

HaleParticipantDraymond Green-At a reasonable price you get a guy who can score without needing many plays called for him, a great rebounder, a skilled passer and a solid defender. We have seen what Kevin Love as your superstar leads to.
John Wall-Westbrook is a better player than Wall but I think it’s easier to build a franchise around a guy with less of an ego and a great playmaker. Wall is the man on his team now and they’re doing pretty well. I don’t think Westbrook is patient enough to do what Wall does.
Andrew Wiggins-They are both freaky athletes who were considered insanely raw coming out. Giannis is much more comfortable with the ball in his hands and a better creator. Wiggins has a much better jump shot. Both can be special on the defensive end. I’ll give the edge to Wiggins because he’s further along at the same stage and he appears to be improving at a faster rate. I could see them both ending up top 20 guys (in the league, not of all time) and hopefully both top 10.
Kyrie Irving-Honestly just because I’m pretty uninformed on Jeff Teague at the moment. Haven’t paid attention to him in a long time.

bananamonkey23Participantdraymond green over love 100 percent kevin love is not a franchise player and has no defense cavs should of just traded wiggins for rim protector now their trading 2 first round picks for mozgov lol to cover up for loves lack of defense draymond green is solid all around with solid defense itd be easier to build a team around him
john wall over westbrook hate to do it but john wall is more effecient and better play maker if i was building franchise i would want consitency as opposed to westbrook who on some nights cant throw a rock in the ocean
id take wiggins in 3 years if i was building a franchise from scratch due to the fact he will be a solid 1st or 2nd option
and jeff irving its a toss up if wanted to run a frachise id take kyrie because he is 4 years younger but teague is better all around right now in my opinion

BornaskulParticipantI would like that my superstar plays defense . Kevin Love is very good , but not a true franchise player .
Green is my choice.
Wall is a better passer , and I think he is a better leader than Westbrook so I would choose him. Westbrook sometimes gets out of control and makes bad decisions.
Andrew Wiggins , yeah The Greek Freak has incredible length and grat athleticism , but Wiggins has more potential on offense IMO, and they are both great defensively.
Hard one, but right now my choice would be Teague , he is playing great lately and the Hawks are winning.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantTough decision. Ideally, I guess I would say I’d rather have Green’s intangibles at a reasonable price. However, if someone like Love is available and interested, that’d be difficult to pass up. There are only a handful of true superstars in the league, and Love has that reputation (although I wouldn’t consider him a true superstar). Its easier to attract free agents when you have a player of that status on your team and it might make it easier to attract another elite talent than it would be with a player like Green.
I would choose Wall. He makes his teammates better in a way that Westbrook doesn’t.
I’m gonna say Wiggins, because I have little doubt that he will be 25 ppg scorer and franchise level player in 4-5 years, and those players are extremely rare. I love the The Freak’s potential, but I don’t know if he can become that type of player. I’m not even sure what position he will ultimately end up playing.
Teague wasn’t even really a point guard when he came into the league, but he has really developed his playmaking skills and ability to run an offense. He’s way ahead of Irving in that regard right now, although Irving has more talent. Right now I’d choose Teague.

nateoak10ParticipantWell for the Warriors it was smarter to have Green cause they also kept Thompson and Barnes which has turned out to be the right choice, however Green is going to really get paid this offseason so "respectable contract" is hard to really decipher. He shouldn’t get the max but he’ll get 10-13 a year no doubt.
But I don’t think I’d build around Love, offensively he’s great but his lack of defense really is an issue when trying to build around a big. You can build around PG’s that aren’t great defenders and some wings but not bigs as your bigs tend to be the most important part of your defense.
I’d rather build around Wall. Russ has talent but he doesn’t have the brains to lead a team to a title, and while I’m not sure Wall will ever be that guy I’d feel more secure having him being the face of my franchise than Russ.
And I’d rather have Irving if my team lacks another "star" as he instantly gives some credibility and a go to threat. However if I already am pretty good on the outside and have a really good big give me Teague. Irving is very good but I don’t think he’s an elite PG when you compare him to other great PG’s such as Curry, Paul, Parker, Rose, Lillard and arguably Dragic and Wall. It seems like he gets carried away with his jumper and not in a good way but in an almost Crawford esque way.
And give me Wiggins or the greek freak, gut feeling tbh

ExumInfernoParticipantKevin Love or Draymond Green, of course Love is better. Love is better scorer, rebounder and passer. Love’s shooting percentages are all better. Love will get his $20,000,000 a season, D Green might be getting $15,000,000 a season when he signs his next contract. Green might be underpaid now, but that won’t last.
Love and Green on the same team would work well, and they nearly were, as they can pass the ball and play multiple spots and spread the floor.
Love is someone who has had defenses all over him, D Green has been the 4th or 5th option for the Warriors so he doesn’t get the defensive attention, so something to think about there. Love will give a team 20 and 10, that is known, but if Green had been in Minnesota as their top player he would not have been as effective.
Other questions, some more fun ones, Westbrook over Wall, Wiggins over the Buck with a long name, and Irving. But they are all close choices.

BornaskulParticipantI’m not so sure Love is really a much better passer . Green is improving in that area and averaging 3.8 assists.
Yeah Love is great at throwing long passes on the fastbreak, he is better in that aspect.
You make a good point about the contracts.

B-ball fanParticipantI’d probably take Draymond Green. Proven playoff performer, consistent improvement. I can see him being an all-star in his prime and he is super versatile on defense. Neither is good enough to be the offensive center piece of a championship team, so I’ll take the guy who will accept being a super role player.
I’d rather build around John Wall because he is younger and a little more disciplined. Westbrook can be so bad when he is bad that he can be gameplanned against. I don’t see him having as much playoff success without KD and he has had some poor postseason performances vs. Dallas and Memphis even with KD.
I’d take Giannis over Wiggins. Giannis may be a little more raw, but he has an even more impressive set of skills and even more special physical tools. Wiggins is more athletic, but Giannis has the height/length of a center and will eventually transition to PF. I also think Giannis is a bit more intelligent on the court and has better court awareness. But Wiggins probably has the higher floor, due to his jump shot. If Giannis ever gets even a mediocre jump shot, he will be deadly. Right now he puts up excellent numbers without shooting jumpers.
I’d rather have Jeff Teague if we are only talking this season simply because he is older and has postseason experience. But I think Kyrie will surpass him very shortly.
