2010 draft could be possibly flooded with potential star forwards who do you like best,honestly i like all of them i would take Henson, Davis, Motiejunas, or Favors in a heartbeat though

Is it just me or is anyone else hesitant to like Montijunas, international big men, rarely succeed..especially when selected in the lottery

Sure there are exceptions, like Nowitzki, but for most they dont seem to adjust to the NBA game, and I cant help but see the same in Montijunas…

You forgot my pick….Craig Brackins. He plays really well but he’s skinny. He bulked up this offseason so he will be a monster in the Big 12.

Dirk, Pau, Bargnani, Okur, Stojakovic, and Hedo
are bigmen that turned out to be stars though, there are just as many American busts as International busts
example. Kwame Brown etc.

I don’t know a lot about Motiejunas so I will not say him. I think Monroe and Favors. Everyone is sleeping on Monroe to me, he can do everything well and will have a beastly sophomore season.

I think it could be Favors. He seems to be more like some of the New Age fowards. Kind of a long, athletic foward who can attack the basket.

he has a solid face to the basket game, and has a pretty good handle for a big man. His range has been extended from 20 feet. He’s improved so much since he was in California, it’s good to see him improve so much and make a name for himself.

I honestly think the cream of the crop when it’s comes to big men is Ed Davis! He’s made such a big splash in front of the scouts eyes that they have him in slotted as a Top 3 prospect to go in next year’s draft. You also have to remember he did this all as a 6th man, you can only imagine how much his productivity will go up once he becomes the focal point for North Carolina.

But from the guys you said, i take MotieJunas, people may not like him, but he has a great skill set.

Many of these players are early underclassmen (HSSR, fresh, or soph), and every year players make huge unexpected jumps in their skills early in their College Careers. Many times you have no clue how good a player will be. A player’s HS status, for example, can be very decieving (take Jru Holliday, or even DeRozan).

Aldrich will probably play Center, multiple sites project him as more of a Center than a PF, so it it questionable whether he will apply to this question next year. The same might hold true for Motiejunas (he could play a similar role that Bargniani, or Beidrins play for their respective teams).

Two other players worth including at this point are Lawal, and Patterson. Both were mid 1st round prospects this year, and went back with the goal of improving their skill sets. They could easily be in the conversation next June.

A few players have yet to earn the projection as a future star (Favors, and Davis). Remember that Mullens (a center) was projected as a top three pick before the season started, and emerged as a “high risk” prospect by draft time. Another example is Brandon Wright (projected for a while to be #1 in his draft year). He has not done well in GS (a disfunctional team for young players)

Also keep in mind that it is difficult to compare PFs with different games (e.g. Nowitski vs. Staudemire). Many of these players could end up being equally important to their respective teams yet have vastly different games.

Finally, a big part of the equation will be the team that drafts these players. For example, if one of these players goes to GS, or the Clippers they could be in big trouble. Many will be young and raw when they come out, and could end up in a Bad situation for their formative years in the league. It is entirel possibley that Darko could be a very good player (maybe even an all-star) by now if he ended up with the right team. Look back at Jermain O’Neal’s emergence once he left Portland.

All this being said, the PF talent in the league should recieve a substantial boost as the players being discussed develop. Good Q.

Bison, Good post, however, it is still fun to see who was right. In a year, you can post “I told ya so” when you were right. We are here to give our opinion on what we think. Most people who know anything about the draft know exactly what you are saying. We would love to hear you pick. BTW I am giving you a point because I wish some people could understand this.

I hear you, but I am almost positive that I will have no clue what I posted a year from now, ha ha.

If I was to pick who would be the Best, I’d have to say that:

– In the rookie year Aldrich (as a center) will be the best “all round player” he plays with his back to the basket, and should fit in many systems. If Favors is the real deal and comes into the league with staudemire/Howard Beast Power, he is another option.

– By the end of their rookie contract (3 years), Motiejunas, Davis, Favors, and Aldrich could easily be looking at max level extensions (basically, they will all be top contributors to their teams).

– In terms of potential ceiling, Favors, Davis, and Motiejunas could all be top ten players in the league, yet play different styles. Again, at the PF position, it is more difficult to draw a straight up comparison, than it is for a guard/sf because they do not handle the ball and unless they are a 300 pound center from Louisiana, they do not control the entire game like Lebron, Wade, or Kobe. This being said, I would say that the career projections will be like this:

Favors could be like Staudemire (or a shorter Dwight Howard, Davis could emerge to be a Jermaine O’Neal (pre-injury Indiana Days) type player who is a low-post offensive threat and defensive nightmare. Motiejunas could easily be a Pau Gasol type player (Post threat/Rebounding machine).

Then Again, I could also see many of these high potential guys not reaching their potential, and a guy like Patterson or Lawal turning into a David West type player, going under the radar, but being a reliable all-star.

These would be my best projections, but I cannot say player X will be the best, because could you say which player (Howard, Stat, and Nowitski) in their prime was the undisputed BEST. There will be an indistinguishable group of Beasts that come from this draft though.

Thanks. My point allocation system is not working, but your open minded approach is appreciated. An NBA career is a long journey. I also agree with your earlier comment on the New Age PFs (Favors fits the prototype). He could easily be a top 5/10 player in the league.

I think Monroe and Aldrich are centers. I’d probably take Favors but I’m really interested in Henson. I wouldnt take a chance on another “the next Dirk”.
