Too early to call but if I had to guess I would say the order you just listed them in.

I also think it’s way too early, but if I had to say, I’d say Irving, Wall, Rubio, but all of them are future All-Stars.

I would take Rubio, Wall and Irving because I LOVE stat stuffers. I feel that Rubio and Wall are always going to be a triple double threat and can contribute even when they arent shooting well. I take Rubio over Wall because he plays with so much poise on O and is already a very solid defender. I’m not knocking Irving for a second, because I’m very impressed with him, I just think that on his off days he doesnt rebound or see the floor as well as the other 2.

His game is more complete than both Wall and Rubio.

I say he will be an All Star before Wall and Rubio also.

The fact that we’re having to choose between these three just shows how great the PG position has truly become in the NBA.

There are 20 or so ELITE PG’s in the league, giving an awesome PG matchup in almost every game.

Just my opinion I can definitely understand if someone ranks them differently, but my list would have to be:

    1. Kyrie Irving

    2. Ricky Rubio

    3. John Wall

BUT I believe all three at some point in their careers will be regarded among the top 10 of PGs in the league.

Great post, there are solid arguments for all of them. It would be so good to revisit this post in 10 years time!

I’ll show you my list of ELITE Point Guards.. In no specific order..

    CP3

    D-Rose

    D-Will

Thats it. Saying a player is elite IMO means that they are STARS. Maybe that’s just me though..

Kyrie – Wall – rubio. I think Kyrie is the clear 1. but the reason i have wall in front of rubio is the athleticism. Id say Wall has a higher ceiling imo

I guess I have a different definition of "elite".

CP3, Rose, D-Will, Westbrook, and Rondo I consider part of the category of being superstars.

My point was that there are very few teams in the league nowadays without a very good point guard, the Heat and the Lakers being among them.

If all reach their potential then it’s Wall without question.

Westbrook is an Elite PG as well, you may not like his game but he is elite.

But far as the topic goes:

    Irving

    Wall

    Rubio

But if Wall fully maximizes his potential he would be #1 hands down.

Yeah Wall has more potential then all of them, he’s the fastest player the league has saw since Allen Iverson, and he got the length to become a Wade like disruptive force, not to mention he’s a better passer then Irving, and a better scorer then Rubio.  But he’s not a better defender then Rubio but is probably a better defender then Irving.

But there’s more to it then just what you see on the surface, it all has to do with what you can’t see- what the the players themselves see.  Irving looks like a legit basketball genius.  He easily the best scorer of the 3, and his scoring potential is being underrated.  He’s a much better shooter then Rose, and he might not have his speed, but he got great ball handling ability and can penetrate at will.  I say that to say this.  I wouldn’t be surprised is Irving became the best scoring PG in the league.

Kyrie, rubio, wall. Kyrie is the easy number 1. His jumper is already one of the best jumpers amoung guards in the league, and his jumper isn’t even his strength. His handle is just sick. His crossover, spin to layup is just amazing to watch. Also, his passing game is very underatted. He is a better passer then his 5-6 assits a game show. The kid has his head screwed on. He makes big time shots. he is a leader and one of the most mature 19 year old to step into an NBA court. he works hard and wants to get better. He will be a superstar.

Kyrie is easily #1.  I don’t know if we’ve had a PG that shoots like him besides Nash and Kyrie can actually be good on D, as well, though he’ll likely not have Nash’s court vision. I utterly missed on the sheer quality of Irving and was totally wrong.  PGs don’t go 50/40/90 as rookies with that ability to finish at the rim!  And he’s a creator, too!  I wouldn’t be shocked if he were considered elite by year 3, like Rose.

I’ll take Rubio next.  Everyone forgets how poor of a shooter Jason Kidd was early on.  I see no reason Rubio can’t follow that path.  Kidd won a ton in his career, as will Rubio.

Wall I feel is least likely to succeed, as he’s poisoned by his atmosphere.  That needs to be a professional organization before I give him the chance to be a superstar.
